I think with this latest block WoTC is really trying to push people to buy as many packs or aftermarket lands as can be possible if you want to be competitive with two or three colors which will cost $$$. I will probably do a mono colored budget deck but I am also trying to convince the guys I play with just to do Standard Pauper as we usually don’t play Standard at FNM and they usually play cube draft.
So what does the land base look like into M15? Pain lands? M10 and Innistrad tap lands? Shocklands will be rotating out shortly after M15 and the Scry lands will not cut it. I hope they do go back to the M10 tap lands at least because it makes Standard decks pretty cheap to make for the casual user.
I see how the Mizzium Mortars really is not a great card to be running in this because I will never get to 6 lands easily. I will run Scouring Sands in my sideboard though because about 1/4 or better of the people I play against on FNM play W and another few play W/B with lots of small creatures and that will just destroy them. Since no one really plays G/W or lots of 3 defense creatures I think I would rather use Searing Blood than Lightning Strike because it will allow me to kill one of their creatures if I am blocking or attacking and do the extra 3 damage to them I don't see how Burning Earth really helps me because if I don't win by turn 6 I will most likely not win the game but I can always try it out. I think Chandra's Phoenix would be a better drop in that spot which for this deck you really aren't supposed ot have a lot of 3 drops if any at all.
I guess I should replace Lightning Bolt with Searing blood and then put Lightning Bolt into the sideboard and kick out shock. Also put in a play set of Scouring Sands in the side board.
I probably should replace Gore-House Chain Walker with Chandra’s Phoenix but I don’t want to drop another $12 on this as it is for casual and FNM. I actually got 3rd out of 12 the last FNM without a sideboard. One Firedrinker Satyr should replace a Foundry Street Denizen.
I have a playset of just about every common and uncommon in Standard. Rares it is kinda hit and miss but I do have 3 B/E's, 3 Mirko's, 2 Consumings and some other stuff also. Trade away the Nightveils when I could get $12 ea for them. Pretty much at least one of every crap rare in Standard. Guildgates but not many scry or shocklands but then again I am not expecting to have an expensive deck. I can pick up cheap stuff pretty easy in trade so that is not a big deal either. Thanks!
Just do it how you would make a list and I can always try to fill in holes.
As I have said I really like where this deck is going and have all the cards but the Mindgrind so I might try it out for fun tonight. Thanks. To Nev and NoElbows, what what you do to the deck as Nev left it to make it better? How about with the BotG cards? Thanks! Been looking for a decent mill idea for awhile.
