The End of an Era

    Here is the M13 USA map. I compiled completely from watching YouTube box openings.

    The track sequence is the same as the other sets released in 2012:
    B D A B D D A A B C A C D C C B D C B D C A

    When mapping this by hand, it makes it a lot easier to unshuffle your packs first, use the method I recorded in this video to straighten out your packs:

    This box uses a new track sequence.

    D B C A D B C A D D B C A D B C A D B C C A
    EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't go back and check the first page. This track sequence is listed there now.

    Also, I was going to go through your second box, but you have a common card listed as a rare, if you happen to know which card belongs there, could you edit it?

    Hey,

    I'm familiar with the RtR Map and already mapped some boxes. Now, i purchased some core boxes to get back into playing since kamigawa (long long time ago) and I don't know how to use this 11x11 sheet? Is it the map already or is something missing? Cause I don't know how to get a pattern like ABDABD... like in RtR... and if yes where do i find the map?

    Thanks for help

    I don't think anything has been posted on this yet. But I always use my own lists anyway.

    As soon as I finish with everything I need to do with Gatecrash, I'll type up the map for M13 for those of you that don't want to use an app.

    It took me a long time just to gather all of the data on M13, since not much has been posted on it.

    Have you found any inconsistencies with the Tracks I posted earlier? They should all be almost entirely correct from what I looked at. Stolen Identity is indeed the rare that appears once on Track A and 3 times on Track B. Spark Trooper is on Track C and D twice, it was one of the hardest to pin down.

    I just compared my lists with yours, everything matches up except on Track B, I have Illusionists Bracers and Biomass Mutation swapped from what you have:

    i++;Track[1,i]=GTCStomping_Ground;
    i++;Track[1,i]=GTCBiovisionary;
    i++;Track[1,i]=GTCIllusionists_Bracers;
    i++;Track[1,i]=GTCBiomass_Mutation;
    i++;Track[1,i]=GTCFathom_Mage;

    Also the three track sequences worked great on all boxes with sleeve information posted. -- Except for the boxes with sleeves that could not be unscrambled. Either we have some really weird pack shifting aside from the usual row shifts, or the boxes got shuffled around in shipment a bit. These inconsistencies might be making it look like there are more track sequences than there really are.

    Or maybe these boxes that have really messed up pack sleeves are where they are switching track sequences mid box.

    It's getting close. I might go pick up a box tonight to test out the tracks. Unfortunately, there are multiple sequences this time around. So it might take a few more packs than normal to figure it out.

    Excellent. I'm currently running through ~ 20 boxes posted here that I believe to have very solid data. So I should have something to compare with yours pretty soon.

    @SynthesisB: Holy wow, you've been busy. Excellent work!

    @pawel_dom: Hopefully soon if there aren't any major complications. I'm been working on the new versions. Which include a sleeve map for calculating the row shifts and pack removals (much faster) rather than brute force attempts, a walkthrough, and a few other things based off feedback I've received. That should be done very soon and I will immediately start on GTC. It's just especially important for the GTC app to include the new features, so I have to finish those first.

    Also the sleeve information that has been posted so far has been very helpful. Especially with the changes that have been made to this set.

    This is bad and retarded, you sell those boosters knowing it's almost sure nothings there? That's ******* of you, I hope wizards do something about it

    I really don't think someone would stay in business very long doing that. I don't remember anyone here said they were selling packs without telling people what they were getting.

    Most people draft with them. I have a group of friends that like to come over and do really cheap drafts with the mapped packs. They all know they have been mapped ahead of time. We just play for fun and practice.

    I have two more boxes on preorder, should be able to crack them tomorrow. Good job thinking of that, it sounds so simple, yet no one gave it any attention. Anywho, should I "Solve" the pack art pattern before posting. Or post as packaged.

    Go ahead and post it as packaged - just incase we find more than one possibility as far as where the rows can shift. It's not too likely with this set, but you never know. The 3 sleeve sets are a little more tricky in this regard.

    Alright, I've figured out how to eliminate row shifting, pack removals, and inconsistencies with packs shuffling around.

    I've recorded a demonstration:
    How to prepare a MTG booster box for card mapping

    For anyone posting box information, it will greatly help everyone working on the map if you could post which sleeve each rare came from.

    With this information we should be able to complete the map extremely quickly.

    For example, you could mark each card with the first initial of the guild that the sleeve belongs to, (G.D.S.O.B. for the Gruul, Dimir, Simic, Orzhov or Boros guild sleeve.)

    Or you can use anything to represent each sleeve (numbers if you want) as long as it is consistent through that particular box.

    Okay guys first box towards the mapping project.
    Vinzito, any chance you are willing to release your mapping method?

    The program that solves the box maps? It's just a whole mess of code. It factors in all of the things we know about row shifting, pack removals and same-track card swapping.

    Right now I have it locked in to our old track sequence to save time, but it can find a new one if need be with any number of tracks.

    Thanks for getting us started. I've been home programming all day Saturday while the wife was out doing the prerelease event. Smile

    Track A-C need a bit more cleaning before I'm confident in the order(rarely two cards may be out of order). Track D should be fairly reliable.

    Awesome apps Vinzito!!! Had a programmer friend of my own who had done something similar as a Windows app. What would REALLY put your apps over the top though, would be for it to pull prices from TCGPlayer or something similar, and then give expected values for the unknown slots. It could also, maybe, have an input where you enter how much you paid for the box, and then keep a running total of what you have opened versus what you paid for the box, so you know how you are doing financially. I think what you paid for the box could actually be worked into the EV calculations on the slots. I'd pay like $15 bucks per version of app if it did all this too!

    Another question about your apps Vinzito..... I was curious why in the video you opened packs going down a column..... Wouldn't it be better to open a full 3 pack row as a starting point? Maybe somewhere in the middle of the box? You don't have a lot of places in the sequence of tracks where a track repeats one after the other.... It seems to me like you'd have a better chance of opening 3 different tracks, allowing yourself to nail down where you are in the track sequence much faster.

    Thank you, that's a great idea, I think I'll add card value lookups next. I did add an ability to flag certain cards in the latest versions, but it would be nice to weigh your cost vs value.

    As far as opening multiple packs in a column rather than a row, it's a gamble. I'm trying to find both the track sequence and the row shifting at the same time in fewer packs opened.

    Another good method would be to open all of row 2, then open one pack on row 1, row 7 and row 8 to find your row shifting and track sequence. Since most of the time there are two shifts up to row 1 and to row 7. I suppose there is still a lot of technique to discover, but I'm basically trying to get everything in as few packs as possible.

    Excellent work!

    Track A and B are 100% correct, every link in each track was verified in a minimum of 4 boxes.

    There is a problem with your C track. I'll post the list when I'm finished with work.

    Quote from Darius
    I'm having some trouble with my second box (the first one went well)

    I opened rows 6 & 7.
    6 B Archon of the Triumv A Jarad, Golgari Lich D Cryptborn Horror
    7 D Hypersonic Dragon B Volatile Rig C Chromatic Lantern

    AABCACDCCBDCBDCABDABDD
    2 possibilities for CBD, and DAB is a bit later in the sequence.
    - In the B rares, either Volatile Rig and Archon are next to eachother (not possible in the sequence), or there's 2 spots between them so it must be the first CBD to have 2 B cards in between them.
    - In the D rares however, Hypersonic dradon and Cryptborn Horror must be next to each other, but if there's another CBDCAB between the 2 rows, there is a D card in between.

    My friends have opened the first 5 rows, so I can ask for a list of rares. I believe they opened a Carnival Hellsteed and Armada Wurm so I know the position in the A track at least.

    You have row shifting and a pack removal somewhere. Your row 11 shifted up to row 7, and there was a pack removed somewhere between row 6 and 11.

        Left            .   Middle                 . Right
    1 (a)Carnival Hells . (c)                      . (b) Guild Feud
    2                   . (d) Mercurial Chemister  . (c)
    3 (d) Pithin Needle . (b) Deathrite Shaman     . (c)
    4 (d) Azor's Elocut . (b) Dreadbore            . (c)
    5 (b) Steam Vents   . (a) Armada Wurm          . (c)
    6 (b) ARCHON OF THE . (a) JARAD, GOLGARI LICH  . (d) CRYPTBORN HORROR
    7 (a) Temple Garden . (d) Grave Betrayal       . (d) Wild Beastmaster
    8 (c)               . (b) Sphinx of the Chimes . (a) Isperia, Supreme J
    9 (d) Hallowed Foun . (c)                      . (a) Rakdos's Return
    10(b) Lotleth Troll . (c)                      . (c)
    11(b) VOLATILE RIG  . (c) CHROMATIC LANTERN    . (d) Righteous Authority
    12(a) Vraska the Un . (c)                      . (d) HYPERSONIC DRAGON

    As you can see, your row 7 is actually row 11, and somewhere in between a pack was removed. Rows 7-10 will be shifted down one row, row 12 should be the same aside from it being slid over to the right one pack due to the pack removal and assuming there is no more row shifting.

    I would guess your Vraska should be in the bottom(12) middle row - but I can't say for sure without more data.

    It would be more helpful if you had just one pack opened per row rather than multiple packs in a single row. This would provide more accurate row shifting predictions.

    Also, track C couldn't be predicted without another C track pack being opened.
