Oh, I understand you gain flexibility with X spells, I've played them many times before, but for red decks that flexibility is not as important as the mana-to-damage ratio, especially considering you need to combo this with big creatures which red doesn't usually have by itself. I tried to make it clear that the main idea of my post was that this is not a "red" spell, it's more of a green one with a R symbol.
And, of course, Blaze itself is not playable in Standard...

I wonder if your also going to see this in Mardu as well...Zurgo himself is 7/2... perhaps their will be more huge power Mardu guy, too

Yeah, I usually give wotc a lot of leeway on this stuff, but I feel you on this on. Very cool card, bu not too mythic. Maybe there is some story to back it up that we dont know?

Second, why does his second ability increase his loyalty, rather than being a 0-loyalty ability, as is the case with both versions of Gideon, and why does he cease to be a planeswalker when he is a creature? Gideon remains a planeswalker when he is a creature, so I fail to understand why the situation should be any different for Sarkhan.
Gideon specifically says that it remains a planewalker. There's no reason that's necessary for the ability to work. This way, Sarkhan is immune to burn while a dragon. Flavor!

Actually, it's the other way around: if Sarkhan would be attacking as a 4/4 indestructible planeswalker, there would be only one card ingame that can handle him before or during combat (H. Downfall in response to his ability).

Now, when he turns into a creature, you can exile him. Game mechanics!

Thats right! Devouring Light can still light him up! Not so with Stormbreath....

George51, Thank you for being here.

On a personal point, I think prowess is also looking good...I hope it is constructed playable so I get that combat trick feeling in constructed that i am used to haing in only limited

Even if that doule strike prowess card isnt playable in the end, i like what its foreshadowing

Standard is going to be so much more interesting and complex!

As far as costs go, if they do this right, it will get harder to nail down what decks are the best so it will get harder to nail down which cards people MUST have. This, along with basic rules of demand should keep prices pretty flexible. The brewers will have more to work with and this should in itself cause newer decks to establish themselves more often, and while people will still buy the latest cards from the latest winning decks more often now, not everyone will be able to as frequently so prices will naturally correct themselves.

As mentioned above, I do worry about the price of lands, though. If more variation constantly exists, then all the types of dual lands will be in constand demand because more types of decks might be viable.

Because they didn't want to print 10 lands in Khans. This way they only have to print 5 while keeping colors balanced.

Khans will have 10 duels for block constructed reasons

Not necesarilly. If they have the tapped wedge lands at uncommon, I could see them doing a 5 dual land rare cylce, giving each wedge a CITPUT dual.

I wouldn't worry about the "'walkers being commanders" thing too much. If I had to guess what happens, we get one planeswalker for each color that can be a commander, and they don't return to the planeswalkers being commanders thing at least until next commander product release. As a casual format, if your friends want to house-rule older planeswalkers in as commanders, you can do that with or without them making LEGIT commandwalkers.

Also, I am super excited to see mono colored commander love. Been waiting for this one.

It may not be something to worry about, but it may open the door to many many more people trying this out with other planewalkers. That could be good or bad depending on who you play with. Personally, I don't want my friends even asking and I know they will now that the cat is out of the bag.

I am in the target market for this, I love the DD sets. I play them with my GF and friends that know the game but isn't super into it, and sometimes it's so relaxing to take a break from hardcore and play casual with decks that you haven't built yourself and are designed by the makers of the game to be a somewhat fair matchup. There's something about not being responsible for your deck's power level, high or low, that just really takes the edge off. I've bought at least one a year since Phyrexia v. Coalition, and I've really only been disappointed by Ajani v. Bolas. I've managed to keep them intact too. You're telling me that there are FOUR extra sets coming out this year that I haven't played? Feels like christmas. Please be available at MSRP, I promise I won't harvest it for value :|

Hell yeah! I totally know what you're talking about. Feels more like playing a board game or something like that, but still playing magic.

  • posted a message on [Deck] Maze's End, an Alternate Win Condition

That's a fun trick, but as someone who also plays a standard version of Maze's End, it is very useful to tutor up a Maze's End at any point in the game, especially early. Sadly, Gatecreeper Vine can't do that, so I think Expedition Map gets the nod here.

Having an alternate win-con is a good suggestion, too, and I like Door to Nothingness, but I suggest Crackling Perimeter. It answers Planeswalkers, too, and can get going faster than DtN.

I'd love to see this deck have some legs in Modern.

I also think that there needs to be some bickering, and off topic conversation. The threads have become too narrow. The huge gainers focused threads are too narrow minded. There used to be a new thread posted everyday with people just asking questions about whatever they wanted. I liked that, it kept me interested in responded. The real world and the stock market involves people just like magic involves people. People tend to be unpredictable and generally rude to deal with. Chaos need to be involved in a discussion. If it goes on for 10 pages of swearing and meanness by all means stop it then and issue a warning. You have to be able to disagree with someone else's opinion. If you just say yes to everything then that process creates a problem by itself. Which I feel is causing lower posts. I know I've cussed people out and said bad things online plenty of times knowing that I would probably get a warning. If you can't say whatever you want on the internet what's left man? In real life you have to go through a series of bosses, supervisors and HR people just to file a grievance against someone. Then you aren't even allowed to talk to them unless your sitting with HR people. Then if you get into a argument people end up getting fired. This is not work. This is the internet or a bar where if you want to yell at a some drunk idiot you do it. Then if things get too hot then eventually someone steps in, but you have to let it go for a while first.

These aren't the only two options we have, one being the loud noisy bar, the other being a corporate HR office of compliance. Those are two representative extremes on opposite ends of the spectrum with a wide bevy of behaviors in between. Yes, this isn't work, but that doesn't mean it has to be some bar full of douchery either.

It's good to have standards, even if they're juts general rules of thumb, and it's good to attempt to foster real discussion rather than just pointless internet bickering, which tends to spiral out of control rather quickly. Because I'll bet you for every person who doesn't post because of possible "infractions" there are at least two others not posting because they're worried about how chewed out they'll be by the finance know-it-alls on mtgsalvation, just for expressing a thought. (And I'm referring to people who are actually reading the threads that pop up and not just random-ass questions where simply a little investigation could help, but even then, why not?)

I think the mtgfinance subreddit is a good example of a place where there is regulation (mostly self-regulation, in that case. The best kind?) and helpful exchange that still allows for the "bickering" or whatever you want to call it.

There's got to be a middle ground for this place, too.

I think the decline has a lot to do with:
    ...

    4) Over-modding - I felt like a lot of the bickering and back and forth on the market street was actually constructive, or at least not out of hand. Speccing is just that...speculation. Modding to shut it all down with heavy warnings and infractions makes people just walk away. If you infract people for showing a little character, then people just won't show character or post at all.
    ...

    6) The realization that a lot of the people on here are no more helpful than the idiots who post comments on tcgplayer about cards.

See, these issues are connected. While over-modding is probably not the solution, I believe the mods were trying to remedy 6) by the way they handle 4). I agree that the "back and forth" can be constructive, but the quality of the back and forth on here can be incredibly juvenile on the fiance forums here. I see little actual argument(in the "making a case for something" sense) and discussion.

It's mostly just "no, that card sucks how could you think it'll be worth something" and "of course that card is a good spec! duh! but you're too late!" So, beyond what others have said, I would say that with all the other problems, the quality of the discussions/arguments are probably not high enough to draw more people in past the other annoyances.

    TRA-DING POST! TRA-DING POST! TRA-DING POST! TRA-DING POST!

Does not fit the name/number crunch.
I'd guess the remaining land is just Encroaching Wastes again or Evolving Wilds... if the thing that fits between Darksteel Citidel and Llanowar Wastes is a reprint.

It doesn't? I see three slots for artifacts after all the staves in the crunch. And if there is one possible artifact rare, then how doesn't that fit? Maybe I'm missing something.

    C'mon! Let a man dream!

If we assume that each color is getting the same number of Rares, then the Four missing rares are: 2 Blue, 1 Black and 1 Artifact/Land. Red, White and Green already have 8 each, Black 7 and Blue 6. That would rule out Birds of Paradise. Think it was a long shot anyways. Let's hope for Rampant Growth reprint.

The Commander 2013 inserts say that you first take a new 7, then 6, then 5, etc. I got the Prossh insert right here.

Reading this thread and seeing how common the partial paris mulligan rules is with the 1st free, I now understand how and why EDH seems so different to some people on this forum. I'm relatively new to EDH, but even I can see how this way of taking a mulligan is just too powerful.

Even in very casual games, it seems too powerful.
