In order (roughly) of increasing security/decreasing spec potential:
    Reserve list
Booster boxes (especially of good draft sets like ROE, INN, etc)
    Legacy staples
    EDH staples
    Modern staples
    EDH/Legacy fringe cards

Yeah, they wouldn't do something like that maybe. I dunno though, they've surprised me before.

Jace, The Mind Sculptor is also a good pickup I'd say. Fresh off his FTV appearance, he's at the lowest point he's been in months.

He'll also never be reprinted in a Standard-legal set again, and almost certainly never in a future Modern Masters, leaving FTV (already done) and judge foils (possible, probably not for a while) the only ways for new Jaces to be printed.

Feast & Famine is definitely the one you want. Hand disruption, incredible untap effect, and very relevant protections (especially with the rise of Abrupt Decay/Jund's popularity). I think we're starting to see a slow rise in its price, but it's still undervalued in my opinion. I could see it gaining $5-10 a year. Good to target in trades.

As Uldan said, the others are certainly weaker, but fairly popular in EDH and some cubes. Pick up War & Peace before Body & Mind, and remember that the latter has a FTV printing that will affect its price as well as it being the weakest of the three.

On a related note, I would get the other two Swords now if you need them. My hunch is that they won't be reprinted in MM2, so it'll be a long time if ever before more are in circulation. Whether you want them for constructed, cubes, trading, etc, I'd invest before Modern season interest ramps up.

Not the most exciting place to find value in a new set, but..

There are many MANY reprints with new arts and several are superior to the originals. (And then there's Fires of Yavimaya blecch. :uhh:)

There are also quite a few old frame -> new frame first-time-reprints. A TON.

I'd factor in casual and cube demand FO SHO on many of the reprints.

I'm practically drooling Dance over here..doubt I'm alone.

Pretty happy with these decklists, honestly. There's a surprising number of casual staples here and they're giving new players quite a lot imo.

Ah yeah. I have mixed thoughts on the new arts. Goblin Sharpshooter is amazing, way better than the original. Rubinia Soulsinger is neat (the colors in the art match her casting colors!). Propaganda is creepy, but looks more like Hive Mind. Most of the others are blah for me. Did we really need another smarmy Jace quote on a reprint? Fires and Lim-Dûl’s Vault are just bad.

Still, you're definitely right in that there will be cube demand for the reprints/border changes though. Worth picking up here and there. I'm not sure how much value you can get for them, since most seem to be on the cheap end, but if you find the right cuber/casual, could be enough profit to make them worth keeping in the binder.

Grixis is almost definitely going to be the money one to get. Power-wise, it's closer, except for Naya which sadly looks quite poopy.

Truename Nemesis is my pick for the breakout Scavenging Ooze/Shardless Agent/Baleful Strix Legacy-applicable card. It's the biggest guarantee to be worth a bunch in a year in the whole set.

I'm also going to be picking up the new legends when I can, especially the Bant and Grixis ones. Staples like Sol Rings and Command Towers will take a big dip before rising, just like before. Some of the old reprints might be popular with casual players too.

Ash Zealot up to $4.50 on average on eBay and is at least $4 on major retailer sites. Could get up to $5. Looks like whoever said to not invest in Chandra's Phoenix's and Ash Zealot's last week is feeling pretty silly right now considering both have doubled in price.

Nylea's risen, most likely due to the outbreak of Mono Green decks placing relatively highly in SCG tournaments.

Late Edit: When do you guys think would be the best time to sell my Loxodon Smiters? They don't see much play (I think they see some in Modern in some sort of Zoo deck) and I think G/W will see a significant amount of play at the next GP or PT that plays Standard. Should I wait until then? Its jumped from starting to approach $4 each on eBay.

There were quite a few in the top of the Cleveland SCG Open last weekend. I'd hold and see what happens at Pro Tour Dublin this weekend. I expect GW/Naya to make a strong showing (I picked up quite a few Smiters myself a few weeks back).

Ditto for anyone holding Ash Zealots. $5+ after the PT is almost a lock, unless red does much worse than expected.

I believe that Fetches will be reprinted in the block after Theros.

    Cheers

This. It's all but guaranteed, if you read between the lines of what WOTC has been saying.

They could even be reprinted as soon as M15, since I doubt a month or two of wacky Standard ever bothers Wizards, but the next block is a better bet. I'm probably dumping mine once Modern season starts up and the prices jump again (to relate to this thread, for duals when possible). The better question is if they'll print the full cycle of 10, and I believe they will.

I am really tempted to pick up a Chandra. With her seeing play in Modern and Legacy, this ultra-pimp version should be in high demand down the road.

Now seems like a bad time to buy in though, so I think the best shot is to wait for a Standard metagame shift away from so much red and hope they dip then. Not sure though, they could just continue to rise forever despite Standard play/rotation.

Revised dual are not the best investment you could make.
These cards have 20 years old now and except for a very few, their value is not only going up and not going up fast.

You could invest is cheaper cards and expect a better return on investment short term.

It's the difference between safe long-term investments and riskier short-term investments with greater potential profit (%). Duals are never going down and always have strong demand.

If Thoughtseize goes to $15, I'll be paying a lot of attention and start picking them up. If it hits $10, I'll grab every one I can find.

Gonna see if I can grab a box or two and stash until after RTR rotates.

Also yeah, if you haven't grabbed Boros Reckoner, I think your window to do so is just about over. I expect a big showing at PT Dublin next weekend and a corresponding further price increase. Depending on how many are in the top 8, I could see $25. Card is insane and was way underpriced heading into Theros.

There were dragons in Greek myth! They came in a couple varieties, but tended to be more serpentine than we traditionally think (see the Ismenian Dragon) - just like how Stormbreath Dragon is depicted. Smile

(on-topic: I don't like said Dragon as a pickup at its current price)

This. They can't reprint either card in standard without returning to the plane, because neither mechanic (cascade or colored artifacts) nor name fits anywhere else.

However they can easily print these in the appropriate Commander wedge decks, alleviating the extremely high prices for what are theoretically "uncommons".

Yeah, keep in mind this fall's Commander precons will be in the 5 Alara flavors, so reprints of Strix/Agent are highly possible. I'd hold off on getting more, and be ready to sell when we start hearing more about the precons. In my opinion, I think they will include at least one copy of each.

If they aren't, then those cards are a solid buy, cause they're going nowhere but up barring reprints.

I was holding on to them hoping they'd go up in value due to chase cards...but apparently there's not much in here. So if I have unopened boxes, I should just crack it and see what I get now?

If you're looking to stash something for long-term, I'd try your hardest to trade for a box of RTR, even throwing in some extra if necessary. RTR boxes will grow 50-100% in a year (look at Innistrad). People need their shocks, and it was a decently-regarded draft format.

I think you lose too much value by opening it. If you whiff on Voice, then the second most valuable card is like $15 (although I do still like Blood Baron as a pickup if you can still get cheap ones immediately).
