Does someone have a few card suggestions for a deck around Deathbringer Thoctar and similar cards?
I don't have a deck list, but I've given him some thought beofre: personally I would go with Phyrexian Devourer and Necrotic Ooze (but I'm a jerk like that). Probably GB (You wouldn't need R since you would not plan to cast the Thoctar). Run Green for some ramp/early protection in Wall of Blossoms. Use Buried Alive to get the Thoctar and Devour into your GY. Resolve the Ooze and win.
I just want to say this is a great primer. Really well put together, with tons of info/deck ideas (almost too many, lol). I don't play Legacy myself; I really like it but 1) I usually can't make it out to any kind of event night thanks to the life-combo that is being a student and a father, and 2) Legacy is all but dead in my area and I don't want to drive 2 hours just to play (even if I had the time, lol).
That said I've always loved Legacy decks, but could never afford, nor justify, the cost/power of a top deck for Casual play. Your lists have given me a few ideas for decks that I can slowly add to my collection over a period of time without feeling guilty about the cost/investment.
Anyways, keep it up man. Between this and Squandered Resources, you're doing a lot for MTG players who want to play a real format (yeah i said it!) but still want to eat, lol.
I have to disagree with Soriel on the Eldrazi Legends; don't cut them. They should not be enough to cause you hate and if they do, you need a new playgroup IMO.
I would agree with Soriel on the point of Cloudpost/Gimmerpost/Vesuva and now Thespians Stage for this deck though. Otherwise I'd consider adding Parallel Lives; automatically doubles your token count. Not saying to cut Populate if you go that route, but the Lives may be faster.
I would focus the deck more though; either focus on Populate, or the Locus mana.
This is a big question. I can't say I have a "signature creature" but one of may favorites would have to be Hypnotic Specter. Turn 1 Hippy is still a great play and one of the reason I love Mono-Black Discard.
Beyond that I can't pick a favorite, though I do think every Black deck is better with a play-set of Vampire Nighthawks.
