Glint-nest crane turns on searing blaze in a way that makes me uncomfortable. I have a feeling that the BUG lists are more vulnerable to burn variants party because of this.
Hey y'all, a while ago I had posted something regarding an idea that I had regarding Lantern (wanted to utilize Blood Moon to make a build not unlike Free-Win Red).
Against Tron, I tend to keep hands that have needle + hand disruption (thoughtseize, duress are the best two here), and ways of getting lantern + mill rocks. Ensnaring bridge is alright to land early, but Tron isn't necessarily going to kill us quickly. Just keep them off an early O-stone/Karn.
EDIT: Is anyone still using the burn version of this deck? I was considering mixing Free Win Red with Lantern just for some fun. Something cool to consider: use of rituals allows us to land earlier locks (or early Blood Moons to disrupt our opponent). So bear with me:
I'm currently trading cards away to build this and will give y'all updates as to my performance with a build like the one I posted. So some questions:
- Is removing the presence of black/green worthwhile just to run bmoon? OR is a splash appropriate?
- What holes does this have over the traditional lantern build?
Some guy just started a thread around a top-controllish build revolving around Invasive surgery. Has this card been considered here?
At one point in time, Zac Elsik ran a single copy of Negate in his sideboard for control/Tron matchups. Also one of his Legacy Lantern builds ran FoW, which ended up getting cut because of the negative interaction between Ensnaring Bridge and counterspells in general. Because we are at heart an ensnaring bridge deck, keeping cards in hand that we potentially cannot cast is not in our best interest. We're better off stripping the opponent's hand via discard and preventing relevant draws.
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is a one-sided triple-pyxis that allows you to utilize your opponent's creatures to block/activate abilities (grabbing a scooze this way feels good).
Narset Transcendent allows you to dig at the same pace as a Sea-Gate wreckage, allows for copying ancient stirrings/removal spells, and can utterly decimate some decks if allowed to ultimate.
To curb affinity and not produce splash damage (because mox is used for other decks like lantern, KCI, cheerios, etc), I'd expect wizards to ban a card exclusive to affinity, like ravager or cranial plating. If mox ends up getting a ban however, I suppose we restructure the mana base to support academy ruins and add cards that fill the same part of the curve (like Mishra's bauble).
Also I think it's important to note that players in general would have less artifact hate post "affinity-ban," which could be beneficial to us as people side in their affinity hate against Lantern. They don't generally keep those cards in on the off chance that they are paired against us.
The nice thing about Vessel is that it can grab aether grid, seal of primordium, and quiet disrepair. Also it bins the remaining cards instead of tucking them to the bottom of the library, so academy and shredder become a bit better. No doubt running X copies of vessel will require more green sources? Currently most lists run approximately 14 sources when you include mox opal.
Also, I have seen some lists run Gemstone Caverns. Is this a card we want, or do you suppose that Tendo Ice Bridge is the better variant? Or neither?
