I only play green EDH, but Chainer seems good. Discard outlet and cast something from the yard, with haste, I like for things across the table to stay dead when I kill them.

Why in the spells based deck we have a creature based commander?

Though I get its good to stop from everyone hating on you but it just feels like such a waste of the tricolor legendary slot.

Could be cool for a group hug based deck tho... If you have a way of making sure the person who can attack you never receives the benefits.

i think you are looking at it the wrong way, it's not creature based. the spells decks will be a valid threat, and a Jeskai deck not preconstructed will often have a large target on it, so instead of having to hold off threats from everyone, you choose the direction that your spells protect you from. it's a really clever defensive spell so you can ignore most of the creatures until you stabilize

Wizards is greedy, they will nickle and dime us for every little thing, and for there to be good reprints, they would raise the price. they claim to not care about or recognize the secondary market, which is the funniest joke they have ever told. they will very carefully include just enough value for you to buy it, and not a penny more. if you want good reprints, buy a $10 Masters set pack, non-lottery products are not the place for that because it generates more money to make people have to crack packs for the chase cards.

That's an expensive dinosaur, but a potential one sided board wipe, especially if you can use an instant to give it indestructible.

even without indestructible, it keeps wise opponents from swinging at you or they are losing their best stuff. idk about the morph deck, but my deck is ramp, I can play that, that, and another thing pretty quickly. I am forever looking for good creature removal and in green '7GG, destroy 2-3 target creatures' is a hell of a bargain

    From the Maro Blog:

petruscaex asked: Is White getting any new effect or ability that it didn't had before?

It’s doing something in Throne of Eldraine it’s never done before in our ongoing quest to help white in Commander.

Now I am interested. What could it be?

    Being good?

I think with Time Spiral block it has done about everything, but ramp, card draw, and counterspells exist more in a 'White technically has done it' sense. I would say delving, but I think after Hogaak they might be giving designers concrete shoes and putting Delve above Banding on the Storm Scale

This is not much different than any other certification programs for other careers. Take for example Massage Therapy (mostly because I am familiar with it). There are two companies that provide certifications and insurance that several states require to practice. You have to pay for the membership it doesn’t get you a job, but helps to advance your career. If you think of this program in that same manor, this is a very good thing for the judging industry.

    That's how I'm seeing it.

Except once massage therapists are actually doing that, they get paid for it. It's not 'oh yeah, come do your job and we will give you something twice a year that in a good year might be $100

I just looked at the projects Weisman has been part of, then I looked at the quality of Magic lore the last few years......yeah, the book sucking is not on him, they haven't had plot that a child couldn't write for several years now. which sucks because some good writers were wasted on the drivel. if they think people are going to PAY to read those little stories on the mothership, either they are crazy or i am very very sad for how low standards are. I love the card game, it's amazing when they are not doing an Amonkhet poor job of it, but the story at least since the end of Khans is the worst I have read for ANY fantasy world.

as far as the WAR novel, I'd bet it had the same problem as the broad strokes I picked up from the cards. it's hard to have a few dozen characters and a rich world and a war and the defeat of a villain they have been building since the 90s in one book. I get that they really wanted to copy Marvel, but Marvel did it over 11 years and 22 movies, with just the final boss fight being two movies. not 'here's a ton of characters and all of this plot and our big battle and the collapse of a political system and the defeat of a hero and a few double crosses and defeat in general and then a secret weakness and a sacrifice and redemption, another betrayal and a random deus ex machina defeat. k thnx bye!'

Mirror would have summoning sickness unless the copied creature has haste. it doesn't matter how long the copied creature has been in play. the turn after you play Mirror you can copy a creature and swing that turn, but the Mirror the turn it is cast has functional summoning sickness

  • posted a message on Banning Criteria discussion: Allow players to win out of nowhere
I think Sol Ring is the Faithless Looting or Brainstorm of EDH, it is probably too powerful, but it remains legal because it is a good portion of the identity of the format. And Faruel is exactly right, every deck can play it, every player can afford it. It doesn't give one color or strategy an advantage that is just beyond what the rest get. if you want to play it, you can, without any caveat. it is too powerful, but it is also the perfect example of being perfectly fair in context.

As far as 'allows players to win out of nowhere', that is a bad joke, and the RC should be ashamed. Every EDH deck is playing a card that does that, it's how decks win. even the most casual deck has to have something that can win before it is removed. if they ACTUALLY banned every card that meets that criteria, the list would probably be 200 cards. at least with Wizards, they are somewhat consistent in what they ban in the other formats, anyone could have told you most of the banned cards were being banned. this announcement was like the Stoneforge Mystic of the banlist 'We are banning this because it keeps us from making good Equipment. We are also never going to make good Equipment gain.....okay yeah, it's banned because we feel like it, no other reason'

well it cannot be truly random, we don't have the technology, for it to be functionally 'randomized', some cards will be printed more than others, and Wizards has the ability to control which ones those are. they admit to having done it for years, so I don't see the burden of proof as actually being on the people trying to prove that they are still doing it. the people arguing against it, their argument is based on the assumption that they ever stopped. sure, they said they did, but did they ever give us a reason to believe that? they hide so much from us, they filter what we are allowed to see so carefully. they have to program the machines in some way, they know what the chase cards will be, there is no reason to think that they wouldn't make those cards more rare than others with the same symbol.

so instead of asking why we think they started again, why do you think they stopped? has to be something better than 'the company that never acknowledged the decline in card stock when a toddler could see that it was fact said so'
