I think there were actually a lot of noteworthy tidbits.

Thank you for having a positive outcome on anything Wizards related in this forum. People like you are becoming rarer by the day here. Also thanks for sharing.

But you recognize that it's a reflection of Wizards getting worse, right? ever since they took lottery cards of of packs and immediately moved them to their own premium boxes and now to Secret Lairs, it's really hard to deny that they are crapping on us. if they would just obey the spirit of the law (like they insist on the spirit of the Reserved List) and didn't make all of their decisions based on the secondary market a lot fewer people would have bad things to say about them.

I think this is a hard one to comment on without seeing what’s happening directly. The other thing that could be a possibility is that maybe the deals your proposing don’t actually make sense.

I think the better people get at assessing threats themselves the less politics happens. Politics thrive in low level games because threat assessment seems much more ambiguous. Once people get better at assessing threats for themselves the number of opportunities to sway someone’s actions drops dramatically. They still exist but they are fewer and far between, and overdealing gets annoying, especially when one player is constantly tricking the least experienced player into bad threat assessment situations.

I think in one direction, you are right. There are fewer chances to trick someone into bad deals, fewer stupid deals being made..but otoh, I have actually seen MORE deals as my playgroup has gotten better. We build better decks with better answers, and as we become better at weighing pros and cons, we are more likely to offer 'I deal with this and you give me a turn free of being attacked' deals, and the rest are more likely to accept it looking at problems where we would try. I do't think there can really be hard statements about 'good players don't use politics are much', good players are flexible.

Splendor mare is interesting, the cycle ability because it is a lifelink COUNTER on whatever you like, seems much more valuable than casting it as a creature. aren't cycling abilities usually a cheaper and worse version, instead of cheaper and an upgrade?

that is exceptional! one of those cards tat may not be great in Standard, but is absolutely premium removal for other formats, it's going to kill almost everything in Modern

The art on this card is gorgeous, wow! I don't think it works with Leyline of Anticipation. It doesn't give them flash, it enables them to be cast as though they had flash. I think the subtle difference invalidates that interaction.

The flavor text is cool, too.

"We are the shadow of each other, fleeting and yet always present."

That is correct. same way that 'deals damage as though it was not blocked' is not the same as unblockable, it doesn't give the keyword itself, which is what this card cares about....to be fair, ikoria COULD give us that card

It can't be most of the suggestions. Banding and phasing, intmidate, etc, even if they aren't printed anymore, they are still existing keywords. I looked at the list, and the only one I am seeing is 'bury', because all these other ones, they already do something, they didn't get retconned out of existence, stuff like banding isn't used anymore, but still exists

The point of those suggestions the hint states “former keyword” thus suggesting keywords that aren’t used anymore

But that's the thing. Banding is not used anymore, Banding will PROBABLY never be used ever again. But they can't call the new keyword banding because regardless of use or future, it already currently has rules text attached to that word. they couldn't use one that is just obscure and you have to explain what it does to a new player, it would have to be one that you tell the new player 'oh yeah, they called it that, but it is called this now, including in oracle text'. if they used Banding for the new keyword, it would change what Formation actually does

It bugs me that they aren't pushing back the online release. I get WHY, but everyone playing with this stuff for a full month before a single pack is cracked, it just feels wrong

damn these people. none of the bans actually matter to me, but they just keep banning and banning. remember when they used to UNBAN stuff? the most common thing used to be to ease the sting by giving something back, now they just take.

Depends, I don't see them as being for the same situation. OG is for general use, when you have to swing a couple times to whittle away at an overwhelming board of just a pile of stuff that all has to go. Ceaseless Hunger is for when there are just a couple key things to screw. it's like Karn liberated vs Big Ugin. Karn is the better answer if the question is Steel Hellkite, ugin is better if the question is 100 Beast tokens

If they ban my Ballistas, I'm going to be furious, the combo isn't THAT good. there is nothing you can't beat in Modern if you do what you have to do. I sound like a broken record, but we have so many toys, so many tools, there's no excuse for 'deck XYZ is unbeatable'. I hate the argument of 'warping the metagame', that's what metagame IS, not just playing whatever random thing you like if you want to win. They should unban about half the cards on the list, Modern players aren't Standard players, we shouldn't need someone to hold our hand and give us sets that basically make our deck a precon. you want to beat Urza decks? those are the big problem for you? give up a few points in a matchup you don't see often, and beat Urza decks! they need to stop forcing rotation and lighting our money on fire because some deck hit 13% of a tournament

I disagree about situational card draw for the same reasons I don't think Wicked Wolf or Beast Within is good for green— it's too much of a cheat trying to get around the color's weakness altogether by just using in-color conditions and effect stylings, where the result is much the same. White not getting card draw means white not getting card draw. There's some small room for flexibility there, but it can't just be very typical easily built around things.
WotC has been trying 'each player draws a card' in white, the latest example being Shatter the Sky. I think it's promising territory to increase cardflow in white without giving it real card advantage.

One thing white could do with more of, I think, is more, better, perpetual late game value. Cards like The Circle of Loyalty, and more of them that don't encourage relatively aggressive small creature decks. Repeated effects that create tokens, buff creatures, return cards from the grave, remove permanents— cards that threaten to just take over the game with value. Green gets lots of cards like this, Nyxbloom Ancient with the newest set, while White's big lategame cards can often be more one-shot like Planar Cleansing, or rather contained, like Zetalpa, Primal Dawn.
I think white could also afford to push more with land filtering cards like the upcoming Birth of Meletis. At least more basic plains tutoring, but perhaps white could also get some Lay of the Land type cards, cards that return lands from your graveyard to the battlefield, creatures that tap for white mana but only to cast creatures, or to cast artifacts or enchantments.

But that's the whole thing, in this age of the game, saying that white cannot have card draw, or a form of filtering that is very, very close is effectively saying "white's part of the color pie is always being inferior to the other color, that is what white does, that is what White is allowed to do, just be inferior'. It doesn't need blue or black card draw, but it isn't really in Red color pie either, and they get a looting effect that is virtually the same in context of what they do, in each and every set. If white even got THAT, it would probably be plenty. or green style 'look at the yop 5 for XYZ' type draw. if they aren't going to give white something constructed relevant that it does well that will allow it to keep up, they should stop making mono-white cards, they should cut out the middleman of wasting the paper and the ink, and only have white in multicolor cards if they aren't going to let it DO anything outside of Limited

Voltron Zur is at least mildly curious. I'm glad to see this, it feels really bad to go to enchantment world and have Zur get so few toys

it makes me sad that while it technically returned, devotion was on what, half a dozen non-god cards? so flexible, such a great mechanic. this is fine i guess, but nothing like last time
