Yeah, I just ditched Scavenger Grounds for a "Blast Zone", and having removal on a land has been absolutely swell! While we may not have the room, I'm convinced there are some other decks that want more than 1 of this bad boy.
I would rather Wish with New Karn for a Crucible and use it a bunch of times than play multiples
Apr 16, 2019I really like the Arcanist. the body is useless, but it doesn't die if a dork blocks it, if they waste removal on it then they have less removal, and if you get one use out of it, it's better than Searing Spear (not the bar, I know, but it has seen some small mono red play) because you still get a creature in play. I am actually really excited about this, it's like a Snapcaster that is worse right when you play it, but can often be much better. this is not a turn 2 play, this is a turn 4-5 'hellbent and having trouble getting there' play. unless they want to waste a card killing it, this is effectively card draw. I know we don't want a lot of games going long, but this could change that. this could change the 'Burn loses the long game' simple fact of every format forever. you don't feel as bad wasting a Bolt on the bird because you get to play it again. it's seriously like Snappy but better for us. I may be wrong, it may be hot garbage, but I am hoping it stays cheap until payday. this card seems crazy excitingPosted in: Aggro & Tempo

Feeling is this should have been tri-color with red.
But it does what it does and its not particularly bad at that.
Its still a hell lot worse than a clean board sweeper that Black/Green "usually" gets.
Is it actually worse though? it is generally completely one-sided, or you can use it for death triggers or something. If it's really late and both players have a lot of stuff going on and the board is stalled (common in Golgari colors) then I would much rather see this than Damnation. it's expensive, but it's basically a finisher in and of itself
Apr 15, 2019I can't say you're exactly wrong, but this stinks of sexism for one simple reason. that same basic stuff can be said for ALL of them! None of them really suffer, none experience lasting consequences. their injuries and setbacks have all the long-term impact of om and Jerry injuries, and they took no casualties against 3 Eldrazi titans. they made Liliana the vessel for the solution, then Tamiyo, now Gideon, they take turns carrying the deus ex machina. they are all overpowered compared to what they are supposed to be, they all make the right choice except for when the plot demands they stumble, and PLENTY of personal issues are being put on hold until the world isn't ending. they are all written just as poorly as her, because Wizards SUCKS at story and plot ever since the Gatewatch came along. it's not even like comic books anymore, people die in comic books and might come back later, they turned it into a cartoonPosted in: Magic Storyline

Apr 14, 2019Posted in: Big ManaQuote from tonyfergie »Honestly, I believe that the new Karn will be absolutly insane for us. Ill plan on testing at least 2 possibly 4 in the main board replacing Ulamog, maybe an o-stone, and maybe a relic.
I think we can all attest that at times drawing a Ulamog or having one in your opening hand can be almost a dead draw at least in my opinion whereas the new Karn is always relevant as its only 4 CMC. Having access to your sideboard in game one can be huge, as ill plan on playing some one-off cards like Tormod's Crypt, gravediggers cage, etc which could free up some duplicate space in the sideboard.
The static ability on Karn is like having a stony silence in the main board which I think has the potential to get us free wins against affinity and the mirror.
The fact that new Karn can serve as a win con is the cherry on top IMO. Having a card that when it resolves can win the game when we have 10 mana is great but it's even better when it can do double duty.
I honestly think the sky is the limit with this card as it will give us the ability to be much more dynamic in game one and may end up freeing up some sideboard options
I would love to hear your guys opinion on my take of this card. Am I being too optimistic or is there any other people that think this is the nuts?
You nailed most of my thoughts. I actually go back and forth with cutting Ulamog from the mainboard because I hate having it in my opener so badly, same goes for O-Stone. New Karn being a win condition itself is nice, but I read it as 'you now have in hand whatever card you need right now'. I could not be more indifferent to the Lattice plan, I really couldn't, but this will let me take some of the cards I am not happy to see in every matchup but can't cut from the mainboard and have the best of both worlds. Not just general sideboard stuff either, it's like Eye of Ugin come back to us, because I can put Ulamog in the side and only have it when I want it. I may cut all or most of the creatures from the main and run them as 1-2 in the side, lower the curve a bit. I think people are a bit misguided with the Lattice plan, we don't need off the wall ways to win, we have the cards already for the best late game in the format, ones that don't rely on this new Karn staying in play. this is the thing to give us flexibility beyond our powerful but straightforward plan A. I absolutely love it.

the static seems a little unneccesary if you can get to 6 mana though
In Standard sure, it's meaningless. But in Tron and EDH, there are a bunch of things that it helps you get to. I may run Ulamog again now.
Apr 12, 2019Posted in: Big ManaQuote from SBurani »I'm still not sure about this new Karn, the fact that is does nothing when you cast really worries me.
I do want that the rumored new Ugin to be truth, that would be a 4 off. We'll see next week.
If by 'nothing' you mean 'puts the best sideboard card for the match up directly into your hand and then does a one-sided Stony Silence until they deal with it', then sure, it does nothing. I don't know what more people want from this card, they weren't going to put the minus of Liberated on it, but this is a 'win game 1 against the decks that you normally just go straight to game 2 and hope to draw sideboard stuff against'. We don't need more ways to close out the game, our haymakers are already some of the best ever printed, we needed a toolbox to get us to the late game. If I had been told 'design a card to make Tron better, just go nuts, I would be less excited about what I dreamed up than about this thing.
Apr 10, 2019So now that new Karn is properly spoiled, I have some thoughts. My first thought on seeing it, and the one that I really think could do something, is make as close as is reasonable to a SB of 15 different cards it can wish for, haymakers that normally wouldn't be good enough, but are backbreaking against specific decks. I'm thinking cmc 3 or less so they can be cast the turn it comes down. I REALLY don't like Lattice. it's a very cute interaction, but winning the game when we have 10 mana and access to anything we want out of the side is not something I really think Tron worries about. If I need a wincon, I can go get a sideboard Wurmcoil, or something else that won't be cute or spicy or novel, it will just beat their face in. I'm sure it will win the game, but that really isn't where we struggle, and I think we should focus on shoring up more difficult situations. On that note, here are some of my thoughts for the wishboardPosted in: Big Mana
Crucible of Worlds
Wurmcoil Engine (not 3 or less, but it might be nice to not have to have it in against a combo deck that doesn't care about it)
just off the top of my head. what else?
Apr 10, 2019Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from SavannahLion »Yay... a get-a-card-back-from-exile card. How soon before Wizards reprints AWOL
In all seriousness, I've never been a big fan of the whole getting-a-card-back-from exile-put-there-by-something-else idea. The exile zone is supposed to a holding place for certain card abilities or a place for cards to not come back from. Not Graveyard 2.0 that your opponent has virtually no way to interact with.
So who wants to come up with the new name for the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone?
I think what you are looking for is 'emblem' lol
But in all seriousness, I don't think there should be a zone that cannot be interacted with. The whole 'anything a card can do, another card can undo' idea to me is one of the neat things about this game. If you Path my stuff, most of the time I won't be able to do something about it because the cards that interact with exile are usually bad. That's fine. But I love it that I can wake up after an epic thrashing at FNM, swear that I am done folding to Path, and if I want to warp my deck, I can get around it. Nearly unlimited possibilities is why I play this over so many other games
