I would say COB is right because it depends on your board. We don't know if you have cards better than LoA or Seas in your SB.

If he had simply asked, I would have been more than happy to post a list. But he felt the need to be a dick about it, and then continue being a dick afterwards. So I no longer care what he thinks.

The one being a "dick" is you, who wants people to make a BIIIG effort in writing an essay about sideboarding while doing absolutely nothing(like providing his list) yourself.

If you want to delude yourself into thinking that telling someone to side in anger in merfolk isn't being a dick, well you can live in your imaginary world. Ill be over here in the real world where nobody asked anyone to write an essay(strawman). I asked a very specific question with a very specific answer but I can see you'd rather continue to be a dick than try to be helpful. As for why nobody else responded it's because you responded immediately flagrantly being a colossal dick, and others didn't want to get involved. Except for your friend who felt the need to go out of his way to defend you being a massive dick. So kindly, stop being a dick, and if you don't want to be helpful, you can just not talk instead...

It DOES apply to Mardu. Naya doesn't necessarily play Copperline, and typically only does so with Nacatl. Mardu happily plays Blackcleave. Today, Mardu plays more fast lands than Naya. Period. Mardu's manabase today is less painful than Naya's. Period. In the future, there will no longer be asymmetric access to fast lands because the cycle will be complete. Got it yet?

Except that that's objectively false. They can (and often do) have the same land split. Plenty of Nayas play copperline. Just because a particular list you looked at didn't, doesn't make that the norm. If a naya deck doesn't play Copperline it's because it wants the consistence of fetches/shocks. It's not a question of access, and having another fast land won't suddenly change that. So do you 'got it yet'?

(also, first you say Mardu matters, then you said you were only talking about Jund, now you're back to Mardu mattering. Pick a side and stick with it)

Well, didn't you forget the most important thing when you ask for advice?

Give us your decklist! Without your current list we can hardly suggest anything. I could say board in all 4 Dismember all 4 Vapor Snags and also put your Thoughtseizes and Anger of Gods in there. Guess what, you won#t have them in your sideboard xD.

Why would I need a decklist? I gave specific questions. Are Seas/LoAs good to keep in, or should they go out? Would tidebinder replacing LoA be the right call? As for thoughtseize and anger, now you're just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. You don't need a decklist to answer general questions. But if you don't want to respond, don't. I'm sure there are plenty other people who know what the deck looks like already that can give general guidelines.

Go read the original comment and you'll notice that I mentioned another set of colors that is neither Mardu nor Naya. That third set of colors has access to Blackcleave but doesn't play white.

I did read it. You said Jund "AND MARDU." Meaning you're implying that argument applies to Mardu. When it doesn't. Period. Maybe YOU should actually read what was written instead of attacking me personally.

going from 2 Stomping Ground 3 Sacred Foundry to 2, 2, 1RW Fastland is a no-brainer. A non-zero probability of a painless RW land start is very welcome, and 2 Foundries are still there to be fetched.

My point was that Mardu gets to make this exact same switch. Because they also have ~3 foundries that they could easily wish to switch for a fastland. So your position relative to them is the same.

First off, if you were arguing that Mardu was less painful on the lands...Mardu and Naya both only had 1 fastland before, and both benefit from the new RW equally. So not sure where you're going with that line.

As for the concept in general, it doesn't change. You can't use fast lands effectively in Naya because they don't interact with cat. Unless you aren't running cat. In which case, as I said you'd be in the same boat as before when compared to Mardu, nothing changed.

As for other decks picking up fastlands. Some will. Especially if burn becomes more prevalent. But I don't think it's going to be a massive change in the overall metagame just because fetch/shocks are so resilient.

I'm sure this has been covered here before, but the primer doesn't go into enough depth; how the hell do you sideboard the mirror? I just got matched against another merfolk, and we had completely different sideboard strategies, and I need to know what we're supposed to do. Do spreading seas come out because they have primarily islands already, or do they stay in to cantrip and hit mutas? LoAs, in? out? or are we better off just switching in a generic 2/2 body in the form of tidebinder? Primer says counters are bad, but I left in pierces and hit vial with it...which is pretty relevant.

Bridge was only a problem game1 before I was able to board any responses to it. Post-board it didn't do anything. Second game the mass lifegain was the problem. I kept a hand with 2 spell pierces assuming they'd help, but he didn't play a single non-creature until he had enough mana to pay for them. I couldn't kill him before turn5 while holding mana up to counter, and that was the turn I was milled out on.

Even if I had drawn more of them(i got some), I still think it's a really bad matchup. That deck just got so much value through milling creatures, which we have more of(i think) than any other deck in the format...or at least close to the most. He said merfolk was one of his strongest matchups. Not really a common deck, so not much to worry about, but it's a data point.

Sounds like you ran face-first into something you weren't expecting. Do you run Hurkyl's Recall and counterspells in the board? Because that should help you a ton against mill.
Those were the 13 cards that came in. All recalls and counters. Didn't see enough of them to matter. I boarded out my snags because I didn't see a single creature game1. Game 2 started with 2 hedron crabs and then a slow bleed from there. With cards like Crypt Incursion played at opportune times keeping him alive. Lots of effects like that dealing especially well with creatures...which we have a lot of unfortunately.

Well I just got thoroughly thrashed at fnm this week. Night started off fine, played vs Breach. All 3 games were basically non-interactive goldfishing where whoever went first won. But round 2 I ran into mill...something I was not expecting. Turns out half the deck is dead vs it, and the other half helps them. Put in 13/15 of my sideboard to try and replace dead things, but even then no dice. Turns out mill feeds on creature-heavy decks and runs Ensnaring bridge so lords can be a liability. He ended game2 with over 50 life after I did nearly 50 to him. Round 3 not much to say, was vs mono-black devotion and I got really bad draws. Too much discard and removal to play through while getting no gas. Dropped very frustratedly at 1-2.

Why do you run the wanderwine hub if you have no white splashed?

To dodge choke and boil. Personally I'm more afraid of blood moon these days, but it's a preference.

Hello there all! I am Harrison Gill, and I recently went 11/4 to a top 32 finish with RG Ponza at SCG Syracuse. I had loads of fun playing the deck, and got to be on camera during round 14.

You said the matchup with burn was good. Could you walk me through that? It seems like it would be awful given that they are very fast and can do a lot with just mountains.

Why Bonfire? Seems like a very odd choice. No ways to manipulate the miracle and very costly to cast normally.

  • posted a message on Current Modern Banlist Discussion (9/26/2016 update - No changes!)
So let's just assume for the sake of argument that the format has whatever problem you believe it to have, in whatever way you wish to word it. The question then becomes: how do you resolve this problem? I bring this up because because this is "banlist" discussion, and I fail to see how any of these complaints could be realistically resolved by modifying the banlist. Even if you ban 12 different cards out of the best decks, that would still just be bandaid fixes(ignoring that it's completely unrealistic). As for unbanning anything on the list, I can't see any general use interaction tools that we're being denied. The closest you get is cards like ponder with the argument of helping control, but in reality those would do more to aid combo and exacerbate the problem. Unless you think Jace or Jitte are the keys to the kingdom, but I don't think those would actually help you get under decks like burn and infect.

I think your best bet if you're gonna argue the lack of tools is to do so in the obvious context of prints or reprints(counterspell?)
