My first decks in Magic were the Izzet v Golgari decks. I was considering just getting an intro pack, but the ability to play with my brother pulled me to the duel decks. I thoroughly enjoyed playing both decks, with Niv-Mizzet, the firemind and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord looking pretty awesome from the get go! The Izzet pulled me into Spellslinging, while I was already a fan of Graveplay from running Chaos Dragons in Yugioh. I went on to build EDH decks of both and had a real blast with them (I didn't play combos with Niv). Both commanders have a special place in my heart and it's really hard to choose between them... Niv is great card draw and he as a character is great, and UR spells are one of my favorite archetypes because of him, but...
Jarad will take the spot because he's relatively resilient, gets better over time, and helps his own strategy by being another sac outlet. Overall, i think he has great reach and sweet synergy with GB in general, and I really value reach so he seems to fitmy style much better. sorry Niv!
and apprently he was in the first Ravnica block's story. I wonder what he was like
but the question is, if money isn't an issue, how much can we afford to splash without sacrificing out consistency? being mostly blue based does help, though.
Taking out both Dancers and a Visions (but putting Scorn back in) leaves only 2 slots. not sure if it's enough for Impulse because Roar is a fine burn card, plus Volley in the board. The exlposiveness of Humans is really keeping me from being willing to run less than three copies of Impulse. one more Denial -could- work since OP said he wanted to try two, while Tyrant of Valakut is mega cheap money-wise (and mana-wise with surge), provides extra reach, and is a dragon. That might push the curve a little too much, though. Grip of the Roil is another option that also nets us a card.

Paranoia is still getting to me (should i find room for Fiery temper/Impulse? Should i get extra card draw for the control matchup?) since i have no experience with the deck right now, hopefully i'll be able to sleeve this up for Game Day.
Also, I'm kinda scared of GB rites, and it's making me want to throw in 2 Yavimaya coasts for Radiant Flames. What do you think of the matchup? and Seasons Past control while we're at it. I'm not sure how good we are at racing in either direction
Do you think Clash of Wills has a spot in the sideboard vs aggro? Also, I feel like we should be taking a less flash/creature-centric approach and add more instants/sorceries so we can play Fiery Impulse
I think your best bet is Evolving Wilds or even Warped Landscape if you care about the colorless mana
Of course, and I do, but what about the people who don't? They'd also be less inclined to read UR because the story's already spoiled for them. Maybe it is or isn't a bad thing, but the old way forced people to read UR if they wanted to know the story, but the person would have to care enough to do it. In the new way, the people who wouldn't care about the lore can still follow the story now, but there's still the chance people are less likely to read the story. Of course, if there's anything showing that the number of hits on UR stories have actually gone up since the change, I'd gladly concede.
0/10 magic ruined for me forever, quitting game and leaving bad snarky reviews on the internet
HOORAY FOR OUR.... RARE... sorcery... lightning strike.... I need 30. is UR control going to be a thing? I feel like it is, please let me in on this
HEDRON ALIGNMENT!!! OBLITERATE!!!!
and the story cards are pretty kick-ass. I'm half hoping there are Jace and Gideon versions of this card, but considering the art and mechanics are teamwork based, i doubt it.
And tbh, I'm kinda disappointed they're barfing all of the important story elements onto the cards now. As epic as the art and flavor text look, I feel the event's impact is lessened without some sort of build up beyond the story blurb on the side of a booster box. Anyone could open one of these in a pack and go "Oh crap, what's going on here? Oh well, i guess the guys win so whatevs"
nowhere did he say it was because Instants are bad, or that the supertype would only be on a few cards, just that it would have made templating more tidy
wasn't this in response to the Flash mechanic and not instants as a whole? pretty sure Counterspells and instant kill spells would still have been a norm, just as "Instant Sorceries"
Anticipate reprint so soon is weird, but probably necessary
new Dispel art is frickin sweet
Halimar Tidecaller is clever.. might have to revamp my cube to include her and make Awaken a GU subtheme or something
Spell Shrivel as a bigger mana leak? Izzet commanders won't mind this. If i get around to making counterburn i wouldn't mind putting this in either
Good to see Altar's Reap and bone splinters back! the only thing missing is Mulch
dutiful return? reprint game strong.
i like how zulaport cutthroat synergizes with Smothering Abomination and other cards like it. silly traitor human
I can't believe they made a red Nettle Sentinel!
I hate our replacement burn. no 2 mana ones, but Touch of the Void seems to be the best one, though stonefury is pretty ok too, especially in ramp decks
INSTANT DEMOLISH???
I like the fact that Natural Connection is instant (even though i still can't put it on isochron Scepter)
Swell of Growth is pretty fricking amazing for landfall. if a Zoo landfall deck pops up with Scythe Leopard, i wouldnt' be surprised to see this in them
I hate converge and the fact that it represents GU. I guess we have a decent amount of fixing to at least get 3 colors like the frickin THREE MANA ELF and the GU uncommon will always be at least a 2/2 flier and always efficient for its cost
can someone remind me how often full-arts will appear? that's probably where the money value of this set will be and i might just buy a box for the neato lands
Time to remake RDW! Legendary hurts him, but as a 2 power for 1 AND dash, i'm thinking 3-4. just need to search for more Satyrs and i'll be good! Pretty good for a Tiny leader too, or at least in an Alesha deck.
Dromoka is good but boring as well. Was hoping for more +1/+1 shenanigans or perhaps an ETB effect so i can have one for Roon of the Hidden Realm. pretty ok for EDH though.
dat accessibility to Rebound
Time to remakeJarad and Melek/Niv!
I feel New Simulgar has a place in Lazav control too
also is it just me or does Formidable give Temur an easier angle and thus might be better in limited?
I'm loving megamorph. Not my favorite name, to be honest, but it's REALLY cool and i especially like Stratus walker
> Sage's reverie
so this is our new Ethereal Armor. Why. Good thing WU heroic has a bunch of other good tools, and i'd still run 1 or two
> Sandsteppe Outcast
now this guy is pretty awesome! you get a 3/2 no matter how you slice it, although i', gonna say the second mode will be chosen more often
Cloudform is pretty cool too! Now that i think about it, these Living Enchantments could actually help WU heroic. Manifest a land when you don't need more, and topdecking isn't hard with Battlewise Hoplite and Aqeous Form and such.
>Mistfire Adept, Refocus
Holy moly, look at all this heroic!
>Rakshasa's Disdain
neat.
Merciless Executioner = Slum Reaper + Warrior. Neat. hope there's more reason to draft WB warriors
yay Typhoid rats!
Bloodfire enforcers are niec and easy to enable, but the payoff isnt exactly exciting outside of limited. sorry, Niv.
>Collateral Damage
more bolt!
Dragonrage is a REALLY cool take on Trumpet blast. got something else to cast? neat, go right ahead.
>Friendly fire, Mob Rule
lol.
Gore swine, Frost walker
so now temur has a 3 drop or less that enables ferocious in each color. awesome!
to be honest, I was disapointed in KTK as far as Riku EDH stuff there was. with Ainok Guide and Shaman of the Great hunt, I'm much more excited.
Cashed Defenses
hey look, a noncreature Ferocious enabler. but the question becomes: is the Ferocious deck (in limited) going to be good enough to want at least one of them?
Battlefront Krushok
Hm... Riku Graft?
Feral krushok's flavor
heh.
Winds of Qal sisma
so that was the new fog card todd was talking about. huh.
Well, i wish there were multicolored cards, but that's just because i like them. Cn't wait to draft it!
