Fair enough, I am just hopeful RTR onward is enough to define a format that sets itself apart with benefits that crossover less into modern. I am looking forward to seeing how this unfolds.

Me too. No Fetches are real. Formats are defined by their manabases (Pretty sure So Many Insane Plays said that.) There are enough Modern defining cards that just aren't here. There's no way it can be the same. No Banned List (aside from the Fetches) will keep this fun for a bit at any rate.

Not sure I agree w that. The question around Modern when it first came out was "Is it Small Legacy or Big Standard?" At this point, it is certainly Small Legacy. Hopefully this new format is Big Standard. The New World Order framework will certainly inform that. I think we were seeing that at RTR.

What are the manabases looking like? Kaladesh Fast Lands + Shocks seem a fine place to start.

Remember way way back when we were asking if Modern was going to be Little Legacy or Big Standard? At this point I think it is fair to say that Modern is Little Legacy. Historic is going to be Big Standard. It will be a lower powered non-rotating format post New World Order.

So you're saying that those of with the deck should play as much as possible online before the B&R date. Well if I must, I can take one for the team. For the sake of the format.

Honestly I think boarding out the vengevines is wrong. My 20th land is a second Overgrown Tomb to go full aggro through the hate. I also like a Crypt Breaker somewhere in the 75. It is a discard outlet but can let you upgrade some of the more durdly stuff in the face of a leyline or Yixlid Jailer.

the image of the new colossus hammer. Reminds me of the size of the banhammer that will hopefully come down July 8.

    That is absolutely a Banhammer!

A Neoform or Eldritch Evolution off a Birds for Yixlid Jailer should be fast enough to keep up with Hogaak. It's a toolbox sort of shell so should have other applications as well. Pair with some counter magic to protect the Jailer, drop some decent beaters and it isn't the worst plan. A hard counter should put some pressure on the meta game share.

18 lands. WOOF! I'm still at 20. Prob should be 19 but I'm mulliganing a bit and I think it helps there. I've def got the 4 leylines SB, and a couple of Abrupt Decays MB. Also a Faerie Macabre or two for the mirror. I'm still learning the interactions. I tried a few Hexdrinker in the SB to try a transformational SB plan to just straight Aggro but it just isn't any better than trying to fight the hate. It's been pretty resilient.

As someone who plays this deck, I don't think banning Bridge from Below is enough. I think there has to be multiple bans, like Hogaak AND Altar of Dementia or Hogaak and Bridge from Below. I personally don't think a turn 2/3 8/8 Tramply fellow is all right for Modern. But maybe I'm wrong? Stitcher's Supplier is another card many forget about and is one of this deck's best draws. That and Faithless Looting...

If the deck does turn out to be too good, I actually do wonder if Stitcher's Supplier might be the right ban; practically all of the crazy starts the deck can get rely on that card. The only "crazy start" I can think of that doesn't require it is turn 1 Faithless Looting, drop in two Vengevines, turn 2 cast two 1-mana creatures, which is fairly unlikely to be able to pull off.

When I first put the deck together I didn't have them in my collection. Went through a League and did pretty bad. Put them in after that and it really is night and day.

Bought into the deck this weekend. OMFG. When it is on, it is on. But here comes the MD hate. Ugh.

An interesting development I'm seeing in MTGO results is a Dredge build with 4 Hogaak, 4 Altar, 4 Bridge From Below, and no Narcomoeba.

It is certainly kicking my rear end.
