Sep 26, 2018jshrwd posted a message on The Limited Archetypes of Guilds of RavnicaSurveil and Undergrowth have such a great synergy that I almost think you have to try to play Sultai if you're looking to go black at all.Posted in: Articles

Sep 25, 2018jshrwd posted a message on The Limited Archetypes of Guilds of RavnicaPlaying simulated pools, Golgari's mechanic has felt really clunky. It's almost as if it doesn't have enough stuff to actually enable it. The "creatures in graveyard" mechanic almost begs you to play more than the traditionally-recommended number of creatures, so that you can engage via creatures instead of spells as a way to fill your graveyard.Posted in: Articles

Dec 18, 2017jshrwd posted a message on MTGSalvation's Deckbuilder is Here!As a 100% casual player, I wouldn't use this deckbuilder for the following reasons:Posted in: Articles
1. No privacy restrictions. I don't want comments/feedback, and people don't want my crappy, formatless deck lists to show up in their searches. So I look for places that let me use their tool without having to expose my content to others.
2. No playtest functionality. I don't have a lot of people to play with. Being able to load up an environment where I can roughly simulate some plays with the decklist are critical for my evaluation of whatever pile of crap I've put together.
Outside of the better site quality of MTGS, I don't see anything here to make me switch from TappedOut.
By all means, I'd love to be wrong. Let me know if I overlooked functionality. -

Absolutely. Fantastic writing. -

Have you seen how many coincidental overlaps there are with your write up today and the new Ixalan story, "The Shapers"? Barriers, Guardians, spells that seek out artifacts containing spells that prevent planeswalker travel to (or maybe from) a plane? -
Sep 11, 2017jshrwd posted a message on Changes to MTGSalvation User AccountsI find the irony of you complaining about companies not caring about security in a post where a company explains why they are taking steps to make your information more secure to be very delicious. Very delicious indeed.Posted in: Articles
For what it's worth, I work in the tracking infrastructure that you're lampooning. I can assure you that we have long since moved on from logins and other cookie-based identifiers. Everything is about devices now, since you can't delete your device ID. So don't worry about this merging. The stuff you're concerned about has already happened and was out of your control. -

haha i like this
Why would this be the case?
I'd originally thought of using Silence on their turn during upkeep as a de facto Time Walk.
You don't like Prophecy in Limited or in this deck? I stared at it and Act of Treason (plus a sac outlet) for a moment before moving on.
Definitely appreciate it.
I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how to play with 18 lands. With that many lands, how do you assess mulliganing? Are you more apt to keep a 2-land hand? What about Wild Guess? Does that get a bump in value with so many lands?
Right. I was referring to the footnote that says bigger stores will get 2 kits.
Hmm... It will be tight, but I'll try to squeeze this into the budget.
...three posts later...
I got a good laugh out of this
looks that way:

yeah, in dotp13, you put your code in a wizards site and then it gave you a print out with a bar code
seriously
why is this?
The sealed pool in DotP14 is a custom-built pool of ~160 cards.
