so you're saying that im not good at magic because i modified the contents of this deck/only put $65 into for a format that rarely, if ever sees play in my meta. and then you go on to say that i am "mooching off of the top 8" which is it? either i suck at magic because i netdeck, or i suck at magic because i homebrew it can't be both. there is a layer of dust on my infect deck...

i only made 2 fiscally motivated decisions, but 3 in total which deviate from the "vanilla decks" posted on here. all have reasons other than money as well:

1: Splashing blue made the deck inconsistent in play testing, while blighted agent was a good card, spending $400 on a play set of misty rainforests (which will be reprinted before i play the deck 5 times) ad for $1 worth of blue ublockable 1/1 in a tier 3 deck that rarely see's play isn't worth the payoff. 4 MF means, 4 islands, which means a higher potential into dead drawing an island or mana flooding a useless second color.

2: I decided against a $200 playset of nobles because, dropping a one drop exalted trigger mana dork isn't worth losing a full turn in a deck that prey's on speed. I FINALLY came around after losing enough matches in playtesting, that i could use a 1/1 exalted trigger (by the means of a play set of CoW) to make my common drop of (2 X might of old krosa) swing lethal . cutting pendlehavens for it as it proved to be better in testing. (tap it for a apostle's blessing and still get the pump). this decision also led me to increase the number of apostle's blessings as i had a large quantity of colorless mana in an other wise mono-g deck.

3: inkmoth nexus, first card hated away by tec and ghost quarter or pithing needle. or taped down by control planeswalkers. i frequently had to decide between spending effectively 2 mana for a 1/1 infect flier or swining for lethal o an unblockable pumped up ichorclaw or glistener. this happened enough times that i cut 2 inkmoths for 2 ghost quarters (great for valakut removal, or colonnade removal) and the other 2 being cut for plane jane forests as i freq ran into too many colorless...currently testing blight mamba as i freq have enough colorless untapped to only have to pay a (G) for it's regen but im still testing that to heavy removal.

U/G infect with Inkmoth is a self-fulfilling tale of inefficacy, running blue leads to more dead land, more dead land leads to you running manlands that utilize those dead draws making it seem like it's a great way to utilize un-used land...having that second color makes needing to have those inkmoths late game a common occurance.

basically, if an addict needs to score a heroine to avoid withdraw sickness, you would think that his solution is more heroine to avoid the withdraw sickness...but long term, big picture the solution exacerbates the issue at hand.

i am also planning another deviation with a number of new cards in standard right now, replacing the full playset of rancor (purchased when it was in standard if you want to know, what was it a $9 card at the time?) racor is too slow in modern, was in all star in standard, it see's play in some jank brews because of the memory of what it did in standard, the very same with snapcasters, and delvers everywhere. turn 2 +2/0 trample doesn't mean ***** when there is a beastly tarmogoyf/ aggro zoo deck looking to kill ya
but hey, call me poor all you want you probably have less money than i do realistically.
(i paid for college out of pocket, both undergrad and master's, and i shop exclusively at neiman marcus, ******* love maison martin margiela and zegna but that's another story for another time)

wow, i remember him from those old WOTC VHS tapes they used to distribute of the pro-tour back when ice age was new.
i didn't even know he still played magic, guess there is a reason i wasn't even made aware of infect's presence at the BOTG...(becuase it didn't place)

but i saw finkel playing storm more than a few times in the webcasts

You should post up all your results at GP's and on the Pro Tour then seeing as you seem to know everything about every deck and every player who has ever played those decks.

It's obvious your the King of MTG and everyone should bow down to you mighty skills.

for someone who likes to take a look at top 8 deck-lists and know what pro-players are playing.
you sure don't know what happens on the FREE service wizards EMAILS you every season...live play by play action of the top 8 decks with commentary like they used to have on ESPN a decade ago, but hey you know everything and you're a god

Infraction for flaming. 7 day site ban triggered

^name a hall of famer playing infect?

the few fringe pro players to play paper infect, manage to get booted on day 1 or a positioning so low that they never see camera time. you classify infect in the same league as storm, but the 2 biggest names in magic play storm, see camera time and actually place in single digit holdings.

second, my iphone likes auto-correct words into random characters or words.

mana leak a glistener elf, bolt, snapcaster, bolt infect creatures that have no regen ability or cycle ability generally slows decks down.

stop goldfishing infect as a turn 3-4 deck if you opponent has no answers to anything you have
but mid-range control is ALL answers to aggro

a great affinity player can give you 10 counters before you even swing with that 1/1 infect creature you fished out of a bulk bin (plague, glistener, blighted, ichorclaw etc)

with that said, i am very suprised that he went 3-1, seriously i'd be surprised if he managed to run that record again in his life. with that said i would love to play against that player base, prob keep no lad hands and do all sorts of stupid things!

What kind of a ***** affinity player can't beat infect? That's just sad.
Honestly don't expect to beat that matchup again, in the hands of a good player

Midrange control should easily wipe infect, colossal colanades kill anything in your deck.

Trom....who are these people and where can I go to play them? Becuase it seems like they can't pilot these tier 1 decks for *****

Please don't come into a deck's thread and simply start ranting about how the deck is bad or not a tier one deck. The MTGO data does not lie, it is in fact a popular deck, that has results and wins under it's belt. Creating rant posts like this is in fact flaming. Do not do so again. ~Lantern

If you're running g/r why not just pump an elf to 10 and flesh/blood your opponent?

Theros is good until next year, and is arguably the best of the good tip next year block.
Don't go in too heavy on core sets, only last a year, 50% reprints and never have anything too great once rotation hits, with the exception of 1 or 2 reprints like mutavault or thoughtseize

so now that the full set is spoiled.
    I came up with:

    2 nykthos
    10 forest
    9 mountain

    4 nemesis of mortals
    2 aspect of hydra
    2 swordwise centaur
    2 arbor collossus
    4 reverant hunter
    2 unravel the aether
    2 hero of leina tower
    2 satyr wayfinder
    2 titan's strength
    3 Magma Jet
    2 Anger of the gods
    2 messenger's speed
    2 magma spray
    2 rouse the mob
    2 spite of mogis
    4 strength of the fallen

Also, everyone who says it's lack of skill making players lose, even finkel doesn't place too 8 with the current iteration...the last 2 ban list updates hit this deck hard, it's no secret wotc hates it's existence in modern, finkel even stated this deck is dead next ban list....on his cf primer

Play testing on cockatrice, or any other website like that is far far different than playing in tourneyments.
Believe it or not there are players that spend all day at cards shops, playing over and over.
Cockatrice is people play testing budget crap, or playing dream decks they don't really have a lot of hands on with.

It's like 14 year old kid who can't drive stick, playing forza Motorsport.
You throw him in an scam autoxmevent and he can't even get the car started...

  • posted a message on Need help making budget decks between $10-$30
OP here is an old thread i made.
i started with nothing in magic cards (free cards from magic celebration)
and played 3 friday night magic events and wound up with a $30+ deck after pulling 3 mythics and some money cards (witchstalker, young pyro etc)

2 things you can do for free right now: make all of your basic land the same art, when they thoughtseize or duress you at tourneys they make a mental note of the land art,so if you play a different land than what they saw they knew you drew a dead land/draw that turn and have at least one in hand. making bluffing harder (thinking you have a ranger's guile or giant growth is nice)

2: sell crap, you may think you use that master of waves ONE DAY but you're better off selling it now while you can get high dollars for it. Same with every little thing, every little common worth more than 50 cents sell it no you don't need it trust me

    scry lands = nykthos price
i like nykthos better as a long term hold, and i like manaconfluence for a long term hold.
scry lands have no eternal playability (just out classed by fetch lands, alpha duals, shocklands, check lands, etc)

so mono-green with one nykthos and keep going until you get to 2/4
then splash red and complete mana confluence imho

    then once rotation hits
take the confluence and toss it into a modern deck (U/r delver or something) and keep the $3-5 nykthos in a binder for a few years

    already have the shrines,
    i also have:

anger of the gods X 2
    magma jet X3
    lightning strike X2

should i cut the green dev aggro cards and splash red removal in?
i don't want the scry lands becuase they won't retain any value what so ever but i don't mind buying a play set of the city of brass effective reprint. [mana confluence] if i can get a playset for around what city of brass sells for. rather than the $100/playset it is pre-selling for.

    - 4 badger
+4 m15 green one drop mana dork? idk what it is going to be yet. probably llaonwar elves or arbor elf?

tap for devotion, tap bow of nylea blow rest of mana on pumping leina?
it's sort of a tertiary plan, after you fired off the whole wayfinder, commune and nemessis gimmick
