  • posted a message on Breya control for points. Need suggestions to finish
So our league is going on, and we can change decks whenever we want. We farm points so winning as fast as you can is not always the best way to get to the top tables, however you do get a lot of points for winning. I have an unfinished decklist here:

    http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/breya-point-farm/

And our league +- point achievements can be found here:

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P1paoDw-9QGJsjjvbxf4GCX7C31pBvNhVnU8v6IXwgs/edit?usp=sharing

I was going for a Breya Control so that I can gather points while eventually combo'ing off. But I'm a few cards short. I'm trying to build this without my collection in front of me, and I'm having a hard time recalling the cards I'd want to use. Price is not really an option as I have most cards that would be good in edh. I'm shooting for the 7x9 theory, but not really held to it strictly. 9 spots still left, so your advice is greatly appreciated!

Well, think of the solution, not the problem Smile I'm going to keep thinking of solid ways to farm points that don't rely on winning prior to turn 6 (that's a -4 I think?) I didn't list all the negatives because they don't normally come into play.

I know. Trust me I know. I've advocated voting against it every season, but people just don't seem to care enough. Last season, you actually got 2 points for tucking every commander, up to 3 in a game... Now it's only 1 point. Our league is for the most part, semi-competitive with a few douch-bags tossed in. I'm pretty much the top player, but I try to stay away from things that give negative points as I feel that's the groups way of saying "don't do this, it's not fun", and we have about 30 players in all.

Yeah Hermit is not going to happen. I'm not that kind of player and fortunately nobody else is in our store. We still play the tuck rules, I dont know if you missed that above. I never even thought about It's a Trap during Norins flip on someone elses turn, brilliant. Which infinite combo's are you talking about?

So I'm looking for a list of cards that will go good in Norin that can get me achievements while also having a fair chance to win.

Yep! Now you're getting the jist of it Smile Tokens + Goblin Bombardment == Math Hard. Same with Pyrohemia. Thss is why i think Norin is a solid commander in this league. Just trying to get deck ideas. I have a bunch of good cards on the way, and even an imperial recruiter since SCG has foils on sale for $180 right now. Should have them tomorrow or wednesday before our game night.

It is skewed towards blue but that's just because blue is easy to combo with in a hundred different ways.

Out of curiosity, the extra turns rule seems to be under One Time Negatives by says "for every two consecutive extra turns". Do the infinite turn takers get a lot of negative points or just -2?

A lot. Thats' probably a typo by the league director. It should be repeatable in case somehow they get stopped and start again.

But just as an example, what I like is going:

    T1: 1 drop creature
T2: Play Norin, attack, get First Blood. Norin comes back in at eot, get Cheaty Face.
T3: Tuck someones commander, get So Sick of that Guy.

    Or

    T1: Play Norin
T2: Play Hellspark Elemental, attack, trigger Norin. Get first blood and cheaty face
T3: Unearth Hellspark and get Necromancer

    Etc Etc.

The average game if someone doesn't combo out quickly, usually lasts around 7-8 turns with 4 player pods. It seems 90% of players are playing blue decks of some sort. So I'm sure having some disruption like Magnetic Mountain or Red Elemental/Pyroblast, or maybe even Jaya Ballard could be a good meta call.

Rules: We still play the old mulligan rules, and tuck effects on commanders are still in. We have a points system and you can both gain positive and negative amounts, as well as losing some points for certain commanders. I typed up a quick list here:

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/10TmDYLL4UccW1XH9Dq6Oqe1aVgSz613YBRbbjpBPd2M/edit

Being able to farm points while also winning is a big plus. Format is semi-competitive with some people playing dirty decks that like to take infinite turns, etc.

Something of note that I've found interesting Smile Pyrohemia. The red version of Pestilence is great in Norin. It has to have at least one creature out at all times, but you can always attack with Norin, blink him out, blow up the world and damage players, then our savior comes back, and Pyrohemia checks to see if there's any creatures, which there are.

*EDIT: Just saw where Al_Z_Heimer mentioned it a few pages back.

Question, do we have a list of primers and/or deck lists people are using and can we get them all in one post so it's simpler for people to read or view? I have my league starting this Wednesday and while I'll have to modify some of the deck to play cards that gain points, I've been wanting to do Norin for a long time.

Here's the deck I plan to use and explanation of some of the cards. Lemme know if you can think of anything better and where to fit the maybe-board in

    aha ok.
wouldnt make sense to me to build a deck that would want to get all those jobs done.
some are quit depending on the opponents i guess like saviors of kamigawa is basically fog if someone wants to craterhoof behemoth the table.
so you build a deck and depending on which ones are missing later a deck could be crafted to aim at those missing ones.

also to combo win the table makes sense? because it is minus points or do you think you would still be up in points if you get some other points before and then end the game?

    otherwise king of the hill?

i dont get : -1point for "epic fail" =fail to cast your commander in a game. someone combos out the whole table before anyone cast their commanders = every loser gets -1??

Well, we used to have 'Milestones' which are several achievements combined and they used to give you special points. But those were removed. It doesn't really matter to change decks just to get different achievements because you can get the same ones every game. I.E first blood in game 1, first blood in game 2, etc. So I'm trying to build a deck that gets as many points in every game as possible while maintaining the ability to protect itself.

Yes, Saviors would be like a fog, but we do have players that try to make big creatures and swing for the win. But a fog could get Saviors as well as My Hero (even together!) so it would be a good card for example.

Yes, I could combo win but in all that would only net me 5 points (To the Victor for 2, 3x Another one Bites the Dust, then 100 life, and finally -1 for Yeah Keep Doing That). The trick would be to make the game go out a bit longer to get more points before finishing them off. I played Vorel last season and had one game where I got 17 points (ended the season at 251).

And yes, if someone combo's off super fast, everyone would get a -1 for not casting their commander. The other guy would get to the victor but then get something like -4 for ending the game before turn 6. So he would only gain a point or two, and as such, nobody really tries that in our league. I didnt list all the negatives because I was only concerned with the ones that might make sense while deck building.

how often can you change a deck in that season?
alot of things are basically resolve a specific card (or dont as you would get minus)
insurrection for example can achieve multiple points.
but if your meta is creature light a genesis wave will be necessary to have 10 different nontoken creatures
(ok you could do the tunnel vision into living death kinda thing and hope for the best)

    - We can change anytime we want. 15 weeks, 3 games a night.

    - I keep meaning to get an insurrection, but keep forgetting.
    - It's about half and half. Not super competitive. Genesis Wave would indeed be a good card. But very few of the points are needed "all at once". So I could play say 10 different creatures over the course of the game, as long as they are in play at the same time. I was thinking about Rise of the Dark Realms to get that point, plus Necromancer, plus Merc Army.

So our new season starts Wednesday and we farm points to see who has the highest and gets into the top 4 table at the end. I've been on that table for a few seasons now, and I've won a multitude of games, however this season I just want to farm points. Winning is ok, but not the primary goal unless mathematically it's the most beneficial. So before I go any further, here are the rules

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/10TmDYLL4UccW1XH9Dq6Oqe1aVgSz613YBRbbjpBPd2M/edit?usp=sharing

I should mention that our league still plays the old mulligan rule and can still tuck commanders. I'm leaning towards Breya as I can use her Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar combo to win if necessary. I'd like the rest of the deck to farm as many points as you can think of. What all ideas do you have?

Well, remember that deck I told you that won the finals? This one crushed him two games in a row Smile Turns out T1: Sigarda's Aid with mana rocks, T2: Silas, T3 Bruse targetting Silas then playing Conqueror's Flail at instant speed onto Silas is pretty nasty. 24 point swing? Yes please. Also getting back Executioner's Capsule is pretty effective.

I think i want to move on from Breya stax for a bit as the deck was only meant for the finals. I plan to play Bruse with Silas Renn and have some fun farming points in the next season as I like this 4 color option a lot. Some interactions I look forward too:

    - Lattice + Hellkite Tyrant (with haste)

    - Lattice + Vandalblast (I'll get negative points, but should net positive after winning)

    - Recursioning Scourglass with Silas every turn

    - Welding Jar + Nev's Disk

    - Bruse + Metalwork Colossus
