It's a week till we see what becomes of modern and the changes that will take place. I've been hearing from some people making very worrying talk about mana monkey not being with us anymore. I know these ideas are over exaggerated and fear talk, but is there any claim to what they say? If there is what step do we take next?
That's all the blue-lovin control-playin content writers wishing upon a star. Saner minds at Wizards will prevail. They know there needs to be combo in the mix to balance out the Control-Aggro-Combo triangle. They tried to let blue happen with the Twin ban, but totally pooched it with the Eldrazi fiasco.
@ zooligan : well, if you run my version, you can have an instant speed sideboard that can be fetched with Mystica Teachings
The post to which I was referring was describing discarding a Though-Knot Seer, which from Eldrazi is a T2-3 play. I would love to know how you consistently assemble hands with a thougtseize or a mystical teachings plus the mana to cast it on or before T3. Consistently being the key word. If it can't be done consistently I would postulate that perhaps those sb slots could be more effectively assigned.
suggest at least 1 Thoughtseize in the sideboard (and possibly 2) as they are great also vs. Eldrazi: discarding TKS is not a marginal thing. You can cut one Boseju (too many Spreading Seas and Land destruction effects in UW control for a land that comes into play tapped)and the duress to play 2 Seize.
Duress is there like a silence could be. Its there to beat counterflux. If they let you combo and have counterflux backup. You can not win. They are usualy slow decks. So you go of and with 1 more mana you just duress his flux.
Also va eldrazi on the play its good if you might draw it. Or against any blue deck or tron. If you get to draw it its ok card.
Ah, this makes sense. So better than Silence in that it accomplishes the same thing post-AN, but better utility if you draw it naturally in certain matchups. Assuming of course you are not going off instant speed since Duress is a sorcery.
- 2 Mystical Teachings is really safe. It's surprising that in a really aggro meta how this card be relevant : CMC seems slow, but it helps you having hands without the combo pieces but lots of mana rocks or useful cards coming from the sideboard. I've been keeping different starting hands with both Mystical Teachings in the deck : it needs more mana and I've been mulliganing to keep hands that are fast to increase the velocity of this tutor. In all, a great card that is very different from Spoils of the Vault.
Ever look into Dark Petition? The mana requirement is heavy but if you can get Spell mastery (possible with cantrips, no?) it's only BB net. It is a Sorcery, but when using Teachings are you really going off at instant speed anyway? Also, you can get any card, not just instant/flash cards.
Number Card Name
1 Pact of Negation
1 Slaughter Pact
1 Patrician's Scorn
4 Leyline of Sanctity
2 Boseiju, Who Shelters All
1 Duress
1 Echoing Truth
3 Darkness
1 Laboratory Maniac
Total Number of cards in sideboard: 15
I'm probably being dense here, but how do you get the 1-of Duress in the SB into your hand when you need it, which I assume is during the first few turns?
I asked that back on 4/9 and no one had an opinion:
Are the current numbers of EE/Shattering Spree enough to fight it?
I want more
BTW, congrats Jonathan! Well done, sir, well done.
