What is the rationale behind running 3 engineered explosives in the main deck. It seems excessive. It is tutorable and recurrable.

Sparki, did you miss crucible of worlds or zuran orb when you were still on the rishadan port list? Crucible in especial seems so good.

I love Ravens crime but sadly there is to much overlap with it and Chalice for me to justify running it.

Maybe a side board with Dark Confidant, Chains of Mephistopheles, and Raven's Crime would be fun. I could see Extirpate or Surgical Extraction fitting in there too.

I played a sideboard once like:

    3x Dark Confidant
    2x Thalia
    2x Ethersworn Cannonist
    2x Phyrexian Revoker
    3x Chalice of the void
    2x Krosan Grip
    1x Ensnaring Bridge

I highly suggest a savannah if playing white hatebears. Nothing worse than being unable to cast them turn 1 or2.

How did you like it? You are on something else now, right? Was it a meta change, or were the hatebears not pulling their weight.

Ah, sorry for not elaborating sooner, I was on mobile when I typed that.

I liked it actually, there were just a few instances where I didn't have the required mana to cast them and it sucked. Other than that, casting a T1 thalia off a Mox Diamond, then dropping a port the next turn is beyond ridiculous.

I'll probably go back to something similar, but without the bobs. Something like:

    3x Krosan Grip
    2x Abrupt Decay
    2x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
    2x Ethersworn Canonnist
    2x Phyrexian Revoker
    3x Chalice of the Void
    1x Ensnaring Bridge

Not sure on the decays here since it's pushing that need for a triple color. Those might become something like the 4th chalice and third thalia.

The additional clock was nice too, two hatebears and a few punishing fires adds up pretty fast. Thalia is also good at holding back attacks with first strike, and is save-able via karakas.

    EDIT:

Haha, I dug up an old post, and I actually played this board for a while:

    Sideboard: 15
    3x Chalice of the Void
    3x Geist of Saint Traft
    3x Krosan Grip
    2x Trinisphere
    2x Ethersworn Canonnist
    2x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben

I have actually been thinking about cutting black and Dark Confidant. Decisions, decisions.

    Edit:

I have also toyed with the idea of cutting white (except Karakas). And rocking Bob and Raven's Crime.

I am considering running a sideboard that is heavy on creatures for a five color deck similar to sparki's. It would would feature Ethersworn Canonist, Phyrexian Revoker, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, and possibly Containment Priest. Has anyone run a sideboard like this? I am thinking about making room in the maindeck for a Savannah to hit the white a bit easier. I have not worked out any numbers yet; this is just a half baked idea. This for an unknown meta, but I would eventually like to tune it up for tournament play. Any ideas would helpful.

Has anyone tried using Scroll Rack? Often times I feel that it could help me find an exploration or gamble or something else that isn't a land that I need to progress the game further in my favor and it seems scroll rack could do that easily. I haven't gotten to test any games myself yet however.

In general you don't want to put silver bullets in Lands that aren't lands. More often than not, you will end up dredging them making them useless and the times you do draw it, you'd be much better served maintaining your stability by Porting/Wasting or Punishing Firing. You don't really have many windows where you can be durdling around with something like Scroll Rack. Even despite how great Sensei's Divining Top can be in Lands its still a little bit iffy for the reasons above.

Speaking of Silver Bullets though has anyone actually tested a one-of Titania from C14 in a Lands SB? It seems good against certain decks?

I agree with the sentiment, but disagree with the rationale. Artifact silver bullets are awesome with Academy Ruins (assuming that you are playing a list with blue). Think about Tormod's Crypt or Chalice of the Void. Better yet, consider Engineered Explosives; True-Name Nemesis can bite my shiny metal a$$.

I agree, that if you want this type of effect, you want Sensei's Divining Top. I think top is better here because: 1) it can save loam and 2) it can save itself. I am also not sure that this effect qualifies as a silver bullet. I could see Scroll Rack being helpful aginst discard strategies, but most of the time I would want something else.

lot nicer than I am. If I get a delver player wastelock/punishing fire'd out of the game, if I'm not down games in the matchup, I go for the "deck you with academy ruins/EE recursion" plan. Because F*** delver.

My thoughts were running along the same lines. If I saw that being shut out of the game was bugging an opponent, I would have gone with academy ruins and engineered explosives plan.

Submit, or be prepared to draw your deck... one turn at a time. Evil Lol

I can see this wonderful mental image where a bunch of Lands players like us are gathered around a campfire swapping stories about our quests to find our Tabernacles.

My The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale was actually the first legacy card I purchased. I got into legacy to play this deck. I was apprehensive about plunking down the cash for the deck. As many have noted, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale loomed over my head. I had been to 10-15 magic shops in three states and never even seen one in person. Imagine my surprise when I see one at "The Bargain Box". What a horrible name; it sounds like a discount strip club or brothel. It is basically a used media store that has been trying to reinvent itself since the cd market crashed and has basically devolved into a pawn shop. There it was in a showcase next to some graded coins in one of those over the top holders with the screws in the corners. I payed $250 but got $50 worth of concessions on some foil cards my wife wanted. I still can't believe that she let me buy it.

It is in English and it is in pretty good shape. A couple of nicks on the edges, but perfectly respectable.

There are fourteen creatures in my Maga, Traitor to Mortals deck (including the Pontiff of Blight but not including the general.) Should I

    A) Take out the Pontiff. There are not enough creatures to make it worthwhile.

    B) Leave in the Pontiff, it's fine.

    C) Add moar creatures.

Right now the deck is focusing mostly on drain, tutoring for land to abuse Cabal Coffers. The table has caught on to this strategy and mostly kills the Coffers pieces, but you'd be surprised how often this still works.

Isn't there a color identity problem with Pontiff of Blight in a Maga, Traitor to Mortals deck? Wouldn't the Pontiff's color identity be black white?

    First off, very cool idea.

Why mot go balls out and run Genju of the Realm as your general? I once asked my group if they would have a problem with me running an enchantment as a general and they were cool with it but I never built it.

The Gengu were the first thing that popped into my head. It would allow for more interaction between the two card types you have, which I think would add flavor and enjoyment. For the land base, I think some more fetch would go a long way. I know the Onslaught fetches can be a $$, but Terramorphic Expanse is an easy choice.

yeah, but you aren't going to get anything done with 12 swamps or 20 shocks. You really should be running some number of Basic Swamp if you want to run mutilate.

Shock lands, such as, Blood Crypt are booth land types (i.e. swamp and mountain). If you were running some kind of weird five color deck, you could have four of each of the shock lands that contain black giving you 16 swamps for mutilate. Even though none of them would be basic swamps.

Thanks for the links. I could not get the blip.tv link to work. When I click on it takes me to the up loads section of the sight. It must have hurt to lose game 1 because of improper unside-boarding. What does your current deck list look like?

When is the best time to wasteland? I understand that it is situational, but when do people typically do it. I could see waiting to see what land your opponent drops to try and deny them a color. I could also see popping it during your own turn to keep them from using its mana for creatures or sorceries.

First off, I would like to say thank you to everyone who has put up the great information on this thread. WorstBandNameEver, you mentioned that you watched some videos, can you point me some of them? All the ones that I find are basic explanations of what the cards do, which, this and other primers do better.
