So back in the 90's Inquest Magazine really liked to make hypothetical cards based around existing characters and equipment from RPG games. I remember one particular card was based of a sword who's name I forget - Runeblade, or something like that. The basic mechanic was that the blade had a mind of it's own and never wanted to kill a creature of any one type more than once. Every time it killed a new creature type a rune of that type would appear on the blade, and should the user try to kill a similar creature again, the blade would actually dance and duck away from the target.

I can't remember what the exact rules of the Magic card was that Inquest came up with were, but it's fun to come up with your own variations. Do you have any ideas for a "runeblade-esque" artifact?

So, yeah, can I imprint tree of tales onto prototype portal and play two lands per turn, one from my hand and one from tapping the portal?

hey gang, I'm Dave. I just got back into Magic this past year and have been trying to quickly catch up with all the new rules and changes that occurred over the past twelve years since I last played Magic, around the Nemesis expansion. This game has really grown and I'm amazed with all the new cards and possibilities at my hands. I guess I used to be a Timmy, gnawing on those fat critters and trading twenty cards for one Miri, Cat Warrior, but I'm probably now a Johnny since rediscovering the game and having a stronger, more mature, grasp of the rules.

I stay away from broken combos but can't resist a silly one-goal deck like Enchanted Evening, Sterling Grove, and Opalesence. Currently I'm running a Goatnapper/Changeling deck that has been having trouble triggering in actual game play, a Bant-alligned Venser-backed deck that turns Scornful Egotist into camarids and then feeds them to Day of Dragons, using Venser and ego erasure to keep the dragon tokens, doubling my flight of Dragons (Favorite Kids movie, all my decks are inspired by it) each turn. I really love themed decks and I always sacrifice practicality for flavor.

My only play partner is my roommate who plays with one deck he made out of four boosters and my lands. I'm looking for more players in the Cambridge/Somerville area.

So Hello! I've asked a few newb questions in the rules forums and all the responses have been friendly and speedy. Thanks Everyone!

Thanks, I didn't realize there was a whole EDH forum. I'll get on that and start noodling around with my cards.

So I haven't played magic in about twelve years and this year I dove back into the game to find that EDH/Commander seems to be all the rage. From what I've been able to read, rules wise, it seems like a pretty fun format and I'd like to try to build a few EDH decks, but I just don't know where to start. Are there any good write ups of EDH deck strategies available online; places I can go to learn how people build 100 card decks with only one of each card and make them all work compatibly? I'm sure this has some very obvious answers and people might be offended by my naiveté, but I'm not super internet savvy and have been out of the game for a dozen years. Where does one go to begin to construct functional EDH decks that aren't just a rogue/heroes gallery of my favorite cards?

    thanks,
    Cat Party.

But they're tokens, right? And doesn't Infinite Relfection only affect non-tokens?

  • posted a message on Infinite Reflection + Sek'kuar, Deathkeeper
So, let's say I have five creatures on the battlefield, and Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper. And I play infinite reflection on sekkuar. Then I got six sekkuars. They die, and I get... 6*5... thirty 3/1 tokens, which equals 90 damage, with haste.

So do morph effects, such as Bleb's Scry, not happen?

Say I cast unblinking bleb for its morph cost with knowledge pool in play. It goes into the exiled pool. I or my opponent casts another card and decides to put Unblinking Bleb into play. from exile. Does it enter face down?

    thanks

Please use card tags in future posts. The Forum Guidelines explain how to do that. -Carsten

Thanks so much for the speedy replies!

And with that ruling confirmation my Goatnapper/Brion Stoutarm deck is ready to go.

This might be a newb question but the wording on goatnapper confuses me. Can Goatnapper only steal a creature that's already tapped? Or is this like an Act of Treason ruling and the creature doesn't necessarily have to be tapped to gain control of it?

    thanks!
