I'm talking about the specific vibe of the art. Especially in contrast with Rhox War Monk and the typical "blue sky / green grass" of this color combo. When I think Bant I think walking rhinos, Phelddagrifs, Zebra Unicorns and guys like Angus Mackenzie, goofy guys looking for a good time. Stoic Angel is just taking herself way to seriously, up in them deep red clouds, all broodingly. S'upwiddat?
Does anyone else think the art on Stoic Angel has the totally wrong vibe for a GUW creature? It's so red and fiery. A RG creature maybe. But that's just the least Bant art I could possibly imagine.
I always thought it referred a "gathering" of planeswalkers. Unless the game has changed since I started, I always thought the concept of the game was that you and your opponents are Planeswalkers, and the game of Magic is a gathering of Planeswalkers, coming together and "gathering" creatures and spells summoned from other planes to fight one another.
Yeah, I realized that he was lacking any real red flavor. I'm a big fan of Brion Stoutarm and want to find a way to bring red and white mechanics together with this guy. The problem with the character himself is that he notoriously sucked because I chose to do nothing but take levels in Paladin, as opposed to various other prestige classes to round him out. Part of the problem is that Magic sort of gave up on orcs and focused all their attention on Goblins, understandably. I guess I want to blend the fury of a raw, red creature with the nurturing quality of a white paladin/cleric.

In DnD, Timothy is a half-orc. Not really sure how to convey that.
When I was a kid in the late 90's I played Magic as a full blown Timmy and mostly just collected cards for the flavor. I once traded about 25 (probably decent) cards to a friend for his Mirri, Cat Warrior. Before that my cousin and I were obsessed with Breathstealer, we just thought he was a bamf. We spent one summer on a beach buying Visions and Mirage boosters and building drip castles for Breathstealer to live in. It's probably one of my fondest memories.
These days I still prefer flavor over function, but as far as cards with interesting mechanics go it's Knowledge Pool all the way for me.
