    Freyalise Supplicant

Anyone ever play/see this before? Seems like it has some potential, considering it's a free green sac outlet for red/white creatures that deals damage.

I personally don't see how Iona didn't get banned while painters servant did, Iona is one of the least fun cards in magic because what it does is make it so your opponents can't play magic, also I don't buy that if the mono color guy gets iona'ed the other players will always out of the good of their hearts kill the Iona so their opponent can get back in the game, they will kill iona if they need the mono colored guys help to stop the iona player from winning, but if the mono guy was a threat, that guy will be sitting there waiting to draw into one of the 2 solutions in his deck for iona for the rest of the game. Also I don't buy the "but servant is broken with grind stone" argument either, it's a 2 card combo that kills one person a turn, and which costs 6 mana total, compare to hermit druid, a one card combo that costs 3 mana total that kills everyone immediately, or even kiki-jiki deceiver exarch/splinter twin, which costs 7 or 8 mana total and kills everyone immediately, but the exarch can be flashed in EOT making the amount of mana needed for a suprise whole table kill effectively 5 with Kiki, and 4 with splinter twin, also because both pieces of the combo are creatures they are significantly easier to tutor for/cheat into play. You wouldn't even have to ban iona, though there is the argument that tooth and nail into Servan/Iona immediately locks everyone else out of the game, but with teferi as your general it's much easier to lock everyone out of the game with teferi/knowledge pool, as you can flash teferi in eot and play knowledge pool on your main uncounterably courtesy of your general, essentially a one card combo that costs only 6, 3 less than an entwined tooth and nail.

In summary, unban painter's servant. Also please ban Timestretch, for reference, compare it to timestop, in a 4 man game playing time stretch is the equivalent of landing 6 consecutive upkeep timestops that also tapped all the permanents that untapped that turn. which would require 6 cards and 36 mana, and that's not even counting that if you have 10 lands in play when you play timestretch, it essentially produces you 20 mana.

  • posted a message on What type of mulligans do people use?
At the shop I play at we do partial paris first free, and if you end up with 5 cards and no lands you can just take a regular mulligan up to seven and start the process over until you get something that will lead to you actually being part of the ensuing game. Thats for casual play, in the EDH league I think it's partial paris first free, tough luck if you don't hit any mana in the first 15-20 cards.

I'm trained to drive a car, and I once saw an ad that called car keys and alcohol a loaded weapon, and I've also heard that people talking on their cell phones while driving drive as poorly as drunk drivers, and I used to talk on my phone while driving on rare occasions back when it was legal, therefore by the transitive property, I should be dropped into this scenario in the drivers seat of my 2007 Honda Odyssey LX with my android based smart phone, so after I put on my seat belt, adjust the mirrors, find something good on the radio and call up my friend Scott to talk about my latest idea for an EDH deck, all I need to do when I see the bear is keep my hands on 10 and 2 and bear-ace for impact! Then I'd also back over it a couple times to make sure it's actually "defeated" while telling Scott "dude I totally just hit a bear! No! I'm swear I'm serious man I'll text you a picture of it even!".

2/2 Grizzly Bear dies to 3/3 first strike Moron Driving a Minivan Talking on his Cellphone.

I'd almost feel bad. The bear never even had a chance.

    1. Tornado there is almost always something to regulate and when there isn't your opponents either don't have boards(you're in a good spot) or all their stuff is indestructible/hexproof(U R Effed)

    2. Nim Deathmantle Somehow this finds it's way into all my decks, it's just a sweet versatile card, it saves your dudes, combos with land sac outlets to act as a pseudo blink engine to get more ETB/LTB triggers, and beefs/makes evasive a dude to lay down a beat down.

    3. Coffin Queen Cheap reusable instant speed reanimation, she holds a spot close to my heart.

    4. Crystal Ball CHOSE YOUR DESTINY! Also perfectly balanced powerwise.

    5. Diamond Valley Cheap sac outlet, gain lots of life, has saved my ass countless times

    6. Homura, Human Ascendant Makes all my dudes big and evasive, a humnle man's Akroma's Memorial

    7. Djinn of Wishes Love this card, he's awesome when you've got top of deck manipulation going giving you instant speed value, also exciting when you are spray and pray wishing.

    8. Crop Rotation With their being pretty much infinity playable utility lands in this format and also heavy color requirements land search pretty much for free is great.

    9. Garruk, Primal Hunter Makes dudes, draw you many cards, occasionally provides you with a 1 turn clock wurm army.

    10. Preacher does so much work for being a little guy, combines with a sac outlet to become a pseudo abyss for one of your opponents(+ the value you are getting from that particular sac outlet)

I've got a Glissa the Traitor deck that rather than just being G/B Arty goodstuff is +1/+1 counter Pentavus/Triskelavus...Etc/Arcbound Dudes/Tempest block Spikes Proliferate/Doubling Season etc themed. It's pretty fun to rain down beef counters on all your dudes and schwing away each turn.

This is an example of some clown who thinks he's being cute playing wildcard sucking the strategy out of the game, it's antisocial behaviour, the object of the game is win, if you want to play for a different objective say so up front. This is the same as when you ask someone if they want to help you beat a video game and they agree to help you, but when they get bored rather than just saying so and quitting they repeatedly sabotage your efforts to beat the game, it's not cute, it's childish and I won't waste my team playing with you if this is your idea of "fun".

I don't see why you would want them anyway - they're impressive, but impractical. Heavy, too.

I actually want them for their weight. The only impractical thing about them that i can think of is I wouldn't want to roll them onto cards because they could ding the cards.

Is the decision too important for just one person to make so you must consult the internet? JK I'm here for you babe! I'd go with Oloro because you will be gaining life constantly with him, which stretches out the game leaving more time for durdling, also when he is in play you will be doing to ultimate durdle act, drawing extra cards one at a time! Jeleva is also a good choice, because having scanned the decklist quickly I have identified no win-con that might interrupt a quality durdle. Derevi is probably a good third choice for durdling, untapping skyward eye prophets for value is quite durdly.

  • posted a message on Stinky Steering Wheel Cover
So I'm a pretty environmentally conscious/consumer conscious person. I live in the USA and I'm well aware that a company can put all sorts of stuff in products sold here that would never fly in the European Union or Japan from food to cleaning products to other consumer products. An example that perfectly illustrates this point is that in the USA when you sell a cleaning product you only have to disclose chemicals in it that have been proven to be harmful to human health, if the chemical is new and there is no research saying one way or another if it's safe or not, you are not required by law to disclose that it is in your cleaning product, as the ingredient are considered trade secrets. I believe the situation is the opposite in Europe where a chemical must be proven safe before it can be put in a cleaning product for household use.

Frustratingly my father isn't as "chemically aware" as me, and after noticing that the car I drive the steering wheel is sort of crumbling slowly, he went out and bought a steering wheel cover for it and put it on the wheel. I hadn't been driving this car lately but one day I needed a piece of card board to use as a cutting board for a project so I wouldn't cut into my kitchen table and I pulled the piece of circular cardboard that came with the wheel cover out of the recycling bin to use, I very quickly noticed a gasoline-y smell and I flipped over the cardboard and was suprised to read "this product contains materials known to the state of california to cause cancer" then I realize my dad must have bought it for my car so I went outside and checked in my car and sure enough there it was on the steering wheel and holy cow did it smell bad, so I took it off the wheel and stuck it in the garage to talk to later about with my dad. So I figure I'll go out and get a wheel cover with no cancer warning, which I did, but then after driving my car for approximately 5 minutes with it on I realized it smelled almost as bad as the first one and after taking this one off I found that the smell was now on my hands, and wouldn't wash off, so I also put this on in the garage so I could take it back later. And after going online and using a search engine to find out a little bit more about this warning and what chemicals exactly might be in the cover it turns out that it might be lead, but I think I'd have to call the manufacturer to be sure, though I was amazed, one of the steering wheel covers actually had a "always wash your hands after touching this" warning on it according to one poster .

That brings me to today, when I finally talked to my dad about the issue, I said something along the lines of "dude, it's got a cancer warning on it, like, that's pretty bad, man, does that concern you at all?" he responds "well it's made out of recycled tires, which your car also has" to which I responded "but there are on the outside of the car" he seemed sort of embarassed but then was like "well, I don't know, I might still put the thing back in your car and maybe put one in my car too". I think because I was kind of aggressive about the whole thing he is just being contrarian reflexively. Well, anyway I figured I'd give finding a non-cancer causing/non-napalm smelling cover another try so I went to a local walmart(which I generally try to avoid doing because of their labor practices but it was like midnight and no where else was open and if possible I wanted to give my dad an alternative to hold during his 30 minutes to and 30 minutes from work today in an enclosed area without ventilation(the cabin of his car)). I was fortunately able to find a cover without a cancer warning that also didn't smell like premium high octane gasoline, it is made out of neoprene, which is what wet suits are made out of, which there also some safety concerns about, but which is significantly less suspect than something with a cancer warning on it that makes me want to stop breathing when I'm around it. Well, it has been a few days since I took the smelly wheel covers out of my car and it still stinks like gasoline inside, joy!

Anyway that was my rant if anyone has had a similar experience with a health warning skeptical family member feel free to share.

So I'm looking for ways of taking advantage of indestructible non-creature permanents, obviously wraths are good when using indestructible critters. Capricious Efreet and Phylactery Lich both benefit from stuff like Darksteel Relic, but what other cards do too?

I think I'm going to go green/white, so I can take advantage of Riftstone Portal/Prismatic Omen and land fetchers that can get me the Portal/Urborg Tomb of Yawgmoth which is runnable in G/W because it doesn't actually have any black mana symbols on it, I'm also going to run Chromatic Lantern and maybe Joiner Adept. What other cards are there that let lands tap for mana when they usually can't. Also, what lands would you reccomend that fit the bill of "lands that don't tap for mana" I was thinking about running Cathedra of Serra, Adventurer's Guildhouse, Diamond Valley, Arena, and Dark Depths.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/29/ucla-racist-sexist-signs-asian-women-video_n_2212311.html

UCLA police are investigating racist, sexist slurs attacking Asian women that were found on campus this week.

On Tuesday, a student found a sign that read “asian women R Honkie white-boy worshipping Whores” attached to a Vietnamese Student Union sign.

On Wednesday, another student found the handwritten phrase “Asian Women are White-Boy Worshipping ****s” in the women’s bathroom of the library basement.

    ...

However, it is the pattern of racial slurs that worries Roman Nguyen, president of the Vietnamese Student Union. “It shows this is what some people actually think,” Nguyen told the campus paper.

The Vietnamese Student Union will hold a rally in front of Kerckhoff Hall at noon Thursday to discuss this week’s and prior incidents of racism. The Asian Pacific Coalition also plans to host a forum on Dec. 5 to discuss the recent climate on campus and cultural sensitivity.

Earlier this year, Latino UCLA students living in an off-campus apartment woke up to find the following racial slurs written in black marker across their door: "you rude ignorant spic c*nts," "dirty Meximelt b*tches," and "go eat some refried beans and shut up."

The incidents follow an infamous racist rant called “Asians in the Library” posted to YouTube in 2011 by UCLA student Alexandra Wallace.

I have seen a bit of coverage on this story and nobody has so far mentioned the glaringly obvious point that the person writing the signs are attacking White males as well as Asian Females, the "honkie white-boy" part of the sign tipped me off to that. I feel fairly confident in saying that these signs are being put up by some jealous Asian male who isn't having too much romantic success with Asian females that he sees "throwing themselves" at white males. The president of the Vietnamese Student Union clearly believes the sign on the Student Union sign was from someone outside the "Asian Community" but there is a good chance that the sign was specifically put on the flyer for that club by a male member after personally witnessing "Honkie white-boy worshipping Whore" behavior by VSU females. I think the president is having trouble accepting that the resentment towards Asian females may be coming from his own community and intracommuntiy dialogue is needed to address this resentment.

And it's not like there is no racism/prejudice on campus as the "Asians in the Library" video is rather offensive and the hateful graffiti on the hispanic students door clearly indicates ignorance/hate is alive and well at UCLA and its alarming too because vandalism and violence sometimes come in tandem.

Going back to the resentment towards members of ones own race for dating outside of their race it stems from the absurd idea that either you have first dibs on these people or even that they belong to you somehow, and resentment about certain people dating certain other people is obviously not just limited to Asian males, I've seen/heard tall females complain about short females taking all the tall males, white males complaining about black guys taking their white females, white females complaining that Asian girls are taking their white males and black females complaining about white girls taking their black guys, white guys complaining that Asian girls are prejudiced against white guys. There is enough resentment to go around for everybody.

And finally I want to take this opportunity to sing praise to my own personal dating philosophy of polyamory, where anyone I date is free to date/have sex with other people as they choose, so if some girl/guy I'm dating doesn't want to date you I'm not the one stopping them from doing that(I'm willing to share (a joke/sort of)).

So, thoughts on these incidents/dating dynamics in general?
