Tonight we had interesting thing happen and i want some clarification on rules in question.
Player had Melek, Izzet Paragon and 6 lands on battlefield with Thunderous wrath on top of the library. One of the lands was Flooded strand.
Can he cast Thunderous wrath from the top of the library considering he has fetch in play that he needs to crack to cast it and some explanation would be nice
    Thanks.

after KTK rotates from standard Treasure Cruise is going to be banned from Magic basically. Great job R&D!

    My first thought exactly.

Although i didn't play pod i really enjoyed playing against it, it is complex deck and i will miss it in the meta. Dig is good ban because without delver scapeshift and twin would be too good with it. I'm disappointed there is no AV and BBE unbanns, as well as seat of the synod, or sword of the meek as well.

Last thought, can you guys think of a tier 1 deck that didn't get banns from the start of the format, and how is it regulated in the meta?
Affinity is constantly tier 1 and is regulated by hate cards, wizards should really see that as example of how to fix meta.....print more sb hate cards....

    @Death Gaara

In what world does tron lose to JUND and UWR, i played in 2 PTQs and numerous GPTs JUND and UWR geist exclusively and the only deck i feared with both of these decks is Tron.

Seems to me you don't even know how deck's are matched up in modern

Not dead, just relegated to tier 2 most likely

    So we just lost DRS

4 free spots or real estate in my deck just opened!!! Finks, some removal, hell another 4 drop? I'm 100% sure this deck isn't dead yet, we just need to react to the meta, and figure out our new spot. Its still there boys.

KoTR might be something else to look at, if we go more towards Junk? any other thoughts?

EDIT: people said this deck was dead when we lost BBE. I'm not about that life.

DRS is so much more important than BBE, not just for speed but life gain as well,,especially now with bitterblossom unbanned

What can be done so that this deck doesn't die out, like before nactal ban?

But what options does judge have for you, the player that is currently being cheated on, maybe he can catch cheater during next rounds but what can he do for you

  • posted a message on Intentional deck stacking, what to do about it....
Recently we were participating at GP Vienna where my friend was paired against some guy that stacked her deck until she mulligan to 4 and 3 in two consecutive games.
As she is inexperienced and laid back she didn't call judge even as he was obvious in his intention in his way of shuffling. To explain what he did, he used "wandering eye" to look at the bottom of her deck and putt like 10-15 lands next to each other then put them all on the top with his last shuffle.

After that round she reported him but it didn't make a difference for her, she lost games and was pretty upset.
The problem is, I talked with few of my fiends which are level 1 judges and they told me that practically there is nothing you can do except you call judge who will monitor cheaters shuffling patterns but that is practically after your first hand that you will probably have to mulligan and would be at disadvantage.

So my question is, what can we do to prevent this kind of people from taking advantage of us, if we suspect that our deck is stacked, do we call judge before we draw our first hand to investigate, and what if we are not 100% sure but suspect some stacking and then draw 7 lands or so...

    Thanks for any help

I posted my boarding approach earlier but Xenagos can result in some impressive performances against mono-B and any control deck.

Esper isn't that rough of a MU, just make sure you keep constant even pressure and make sure they don't get too much card advantage from supreme verdicts. Make them one for one your walkers with downfalls and spheres until something sticks and you can ride it.

Games 2-3 are even easier with mistcutters (and from my board the destructives and second ruric thar)

I found out that mistcutter underperformed in my testing, but burning earth was MWP, you get presure and stick burning earth early so they can't answer all threat at once or ignore you.
Maybe the problem with mistcutter is that my testing opponent plays ratchet bombs post side and it really hurts you when he can blow up you huge hydra for 1. On the other hand, Ruric is the absolutly best answer for esper creature wise

He's already running Ghor-Clan Rampager and Nylea. Would you like to suggest an anti-elspeth option?? How many options do we need to address a card that is played in less than 10% of the decks at a tournament?

Seeing that mono black and blue were the top decks this past weekend, I would stack slightly more hate toward them.

I did forget to mention Burning Earth for esper/jund.

Yeah, esper is tough game one, i am going for controled aggresion and if they have 2 or more verdicts and some spheres for walkers they win, but i dont expect that much esper at GP and still got enough trample for elspeth.
Im still waiting on Xenagos opinions, i would like to know why do you like him and in which matchups is he the best/worst

Hi guys, im testing for Vienna too and found that this decklist is the one i like most:

    4 Elvish Mystic
    4 Kalonian Tusker
    4 Voyaging Satyr
    4 Burning-Tree Emissary
    4 Polukranos, World Eater
    3 Arbor Colossus
    3 Reverent Hunter
1 Nylea, God of the Hunt
    2 Ghor-clan Rampager

    4 Domri Rade
    4 Garruk, Caller of Beasts

    4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
    4 Stomping Ground
    4 Temple of Abandon
    9 Forest
    2 Mountain

SB is still in progress but there are usual cards there like in every version of this deck.
In testing we found out that this build has about this %:
    vs Mono B about 70-30
vs Mono U about 50-50 (who plays first-wins)
    vs Esper about 45-55
    vs RW devotion about 60-40

I dont like Xenagos that much in most of the match-ups (except esper) and my Sb choices are still not refined but i wanted to hear your thoughts, why are you playing Xenagos, im still on the swing about it and need a bit of convincing.

I keep rampagers for trample and races where he delivers the most but am still not 100% on him, i need trample often and thought about getting 1 more Nylea main deck or exchange rampager with Xenagos.
    Any thoughts

6-person FFA pods are both not a great way to play EDH and a great way to increase the power of Sylvan Primordial exponentially.

I disagree, we played 4 person pods for 2 years and it was ok, then we changed to 5 person star and i would say it was optimal but due to lack of free tables we changed to 6 person star pods where you need only to kill 3 players not directly in contact with you and it is currently the most fun we as a group have.

    Quote from Jermo48
Easy fix is to stop playing ridiculous six player games. So many things scale up significantly with 6 players.

This is like me saying to you and your group to stop playing ridiculous 4 person games, they are no fun, different people have different preferences, don't they?
    Quote from Jermo48

More importantly, at least a couple of you should be playing white and should have StP or Path to make sure no one ever reanimates it or copies it.

Exactly, there is enough of us that have this cards, everyone has some combo breakers, but it is strange to me that you understand that but fail to see the problem even if you wrote it in the next paragraph.
    Quote from Jermo48
If you're losing to flickered Primordials, you'd just as easily be losing to Kikki+Pester/Exarch, Melira combos, Mikaeus+Triskelion, infinite mana combos, Omniscience, Reaper King+Rite, Doubling Season+certain PWers, etc. Sylvan Primordial never has been and never will be anywhere near the most broken thing you can do with that much mana.

We usually need to hold our best answers for some of those combos, primordial doesn't win outright but it makes for unfun games that revolve around him, just like prime time did.

In the end, everybody have their opinion and i can understand that in some player groups primordial is not an issue but you can't ignore those groups where he is.

It seems to me that everyone that says Sylvan is not broken is bad at magic or has very friendly meta without broken decks.
Some time ago we started playing 6 people pods and EVERY single game someone drops Sylvan primordial turn 4 on average. Most of the time we manage to stop or recover from first one, but the problem is when whole table starts copying it or reanimating it multiple times.
After the dust settles, we usually have 2 players with bunch of lands, 1 player at normal count and 3 players out of the game with probably 1-2 lands.
Doesn't this remind you of PrimeTime and how games come to revolve around him whenever he hits play?
