I was wondering if anyone was going to start talking about the banlist again rather than attendance number at tournaments? I came here looking for speculations on cards (more than 1 card) that might be banned or unbanned. Are there cards that there is a strong case for beyond speculation? I've heard mention of Pod, Cruise and Dig getting banned and BBE, Green Sun possibly getting unbanned. I would love to pull out the BBEs and throw Jund back together, but really doubt BBE will get unbanned.
I'll be adding a couple of these I think. Right now I'm running 2 Pyromaster and I never use her ultimate, mainly just use her for extra cards that will never effect my Bridge. This new card is; easier to cast, harder to remove being an enchantment, and will also make my oppoenent have to chose between enchantments with their removal. It also will work just fine late game with the "dragons" option if I have a few Assemble the Legion tokens out swinging for all they've got.
Interesting either no one realized or just didn't feel like talking about the real reason for not playing Tarmogoyf. Ensnaring Bridge and Goyf are aweful together and while we are on the subject of Bridge, Swiftspear seems aweful with Bridge also. You MUST have 1 card in hand to swing under Bridge with Swiftspear and if you want to pump him you either have to have more than 1 card in hand prior to attacking, or have instances. If you want instance I suppose Lightning Bolt would be a 4 of in a red splash, but not really any other instance (please don't bring up the aweful charm again.) As mentioned earlier, there isn't a whole lot of room in 8rack to modify splash version without making it an entirly different deck; junk, jund, mono black control, etc. Splash red your best option is 4 bolts and maybe some little critter wipes; Pyroclasm, Anger, Slag and some good sideboard like Rakdos Charm, Slaughter Games, etc.
Keep in mind I'm mainly interested in your final opinion, not the arguments for it, because what you think is indisputable and sound logic may seem completely unreasonable and and inviable to me and vice versa.
"It depends on how many and which creatures you are running" is implied, you don't need to say that. It's also somethng I'm interested to know and can extrapolate from a simple 3-letter answer.
In mono black, it's 4 Ensnaring Bridge maindeck every time. I'm splash versions you have (good) options to deal with early permanents they drop with cards like; Abrupt Decay, Lightning Bolt, Path to Exile, Repeal, etc. Bit there really aren't "good" options for mono black.
Yeah, I had a momentary lapse of judgement there. Obviously the crimes get boarded out for rest in peace. I probably would have smirked a little at what ever infraction implimenting comment you might have made. I'm usually in agreance with your posts if you don't recall.
It is humorous in this forum talking about Leyline of the Void people are abreviating it with an acronim that could very easily mean Liliana of the Veil.
On a more constructive note, I think with all Dig and Cruise conserns a case could be made more so now for the splash white version of the deck. Rest in Peace takes care of past, present and future graveyards and holds off Dig and Cruise to be discarded to Crime.
Aw, yes that is correct. I didn't have Blind Obedience in my 75 and probably will overlook it in the future because of that. I think the menial life gain and/or the slow points of damage are just too slow to be effective without control of the game and not nearly effective enough (vs things like Assemble the Legion) if you do have control of the game. With Ajani and Helix I have some life gain and between Blood Moon, Leyline, Chalice and Bridge I'm usually in very little danger while I wait for an Assemble the Legion or Chandra to hasted my opponents demise.
Liliana was never "the best card in modern" Lightning both has been the reigning champion longer than any other card. Although a 1 drop planswalker held first place for a while (Deathrite Shaman.)
The obedience has been pretty solid, and seems to work best with matrix and a ghostly down, but even on its own it offers safety vs haste and delays twin wins by a turn.
Blind Obedience doesn't just delay Splinter Twin by one turn, it stops them in their tracks, the tokens are exiled at the end of the turn.
I've been playing my version of the deck, slightly tweeked for a heavy UR aggro meta. But with all of the UR decks, now pod and scapeshift and running rampant, so I might just go back to my grixis twin deck that obliterates both of those decks with direct damage, twin combo, plus thoughtseize duress. But I keep going back and forth to my RW Lockdown deck.
Originally I was playing 4 Blood Moon and 3 Pyroclasm in the main deck, but flip flopped the two to deal with UR Aggro better. Additionally with all ten fetch lands the ability to get the basic land you need before a Blood Moon lands is even more easy to achieve.
Infernal Tutor is amazing in the right deck, Legacy ANT or even Modern Pixy Stix (UB.) But in 8rack it seems to turn into another Waste Not, but worse. Infernal Tutuor with cards in hand turns inself into a card you already have with an additional mana cost of 1B. In situations when you can run your hand out then pop tutor for whatever card you want, it's nuts. But times that look more like, turn 3 Liliana of the Veil holding just Infernal tutor will leave you questioning why you chose Infernal Tutor. Say you need Ensnaring Bridge, now you are forced to let Liliana sit dormat for 2 whole turns while you first tutor, then untap and have enough mana to cast Ensnaring Bridge.
Maybe we should try splashing without pain? We have Urborgs anyway, and we need only little of another color, so we can try Shadowmoor or Innistrad lands. Or just fetches without shock lands (and one plains-forest).
If Tombstalker is now worth inclusion, perhaps it's time to use Tomb of Urami as well. Remember the downsides are mitigated somewhat by Urborg, Mutavault, and Dakmor.
I see Tomb idea losing to an unsummon, that's pretty weak. Vapor Snag, Path to Exile... umm any removal spell, Abrupt Decay, Cryptic Command bounce! Tombstalker seems really aweful, Tomb of Urami seems Leechridden aweful.
The thing I have always liked about chalice over sphere and bridge over prison is permission. Chalice flat out cointers every single 1 drop even angel's grace, whereas sphere just says "pay a little extra." And bridge is black&white whether their creature can attack or not, prison they can pay 2 and still swing with a goyf, geist or emmrakul, or just swing with no penalty into my planswalker's face. Running 6 game changing PWs I'd rather not have their Sakura Tribe Elder cost me the game.
