Base on some of the cards, such as Anje's Ravager and Ghired, Conclave Exile we can expect some combat involved, but how much? Will it be enough to make combat matter again in EDH, or at least heads towards that direction?
The colors also suggested that there might not be mono-color deck support this year, unless Anje's deck says otherwise.
I'm actually the most curious about Gerrard at this moment. Rosewater said he'd be Boros, but Boros has a history of boring design till F/S and Feather. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a Rebel/Soldier leader where he turns every creature in your library Rebels and can search for them. Given his history (and cards related to him), I won't oppose a Boros style Vindicate and Gerrard's Verdict.
Ugin as a planeswalker might be able to use all 5 colors, but if they make him a creature, like Urza or Yawgmoth, he’ll probably be bant, Azorius, or mono white.
I’m not sure how much of the blame should go to Greg Weismann. He had to write about dozens of characters and conclude a story arch that different authors have been creating, and I have a feeling his writing was micromanaged by a bunch of people.
I will say that I thought the narrator of the audiobook did a good job, and made some of the bad writing actually enjoyable.
I’m thinking about using these cards to replace Torpor Orb and Leyline of Sanctity in my sideboard. Torpor Orb I put in after Kiki-Jiki angel felt unwinnable, but I haven’t seen that deck in a while, and Leyline of Sanctity no longer protects walkers from burn spells, feels redundant with chalice, and is destroyed often with Assassin’s Trophy.
Fry, devout decree, and the new Chandra seem like better options to me right now.
there is a new multi-cost mechanic with a storybook like frame in cards.
I was thinking Sagas would be nice in this set as they go with the stories, but the create multi-cost mechanic seems to be this.
Willing to bet there will be a strong sub-theme on equipment / artifacts
as swords and grails and other artifacts are important in Arthurian legends.
Maro said people are making too big of a deal about faeries, and most fairy tales only feature a few characters, not large tribes.
Do you guys have any thoughts about Hexdrinker in Jund ?
Hexdrinker appears to be performing well in Jund, but I’m not sure if it’s better than Nimble Mongoose. I just have to do more play testing in general. I think I definitely have to add Collector Ouphe to my sideboard with affinity, Tron, and Grixis Urza running around.
I've posted two notes about this already.
Further discussion and arguments on gender identity/politics/etc will be dealt with via warnings and suspensions.

Twilight Prophet I feel does the same thing as Sorin for 2 less mana.
Austere Commnand is more versatile than Damnation/Wrath of God/Day of Judgement/Fumigate. You run a lot of creatures and a lot of cards that discourage opponents from attacking, so I don’t think you have to have all these cards that destroy all creatures, especially if you run up against a deck that primarily plays planeswalkers, enchantments, or artifacts.
Tithe Drinker and Blood Artist seem more effective than the creatures I recommended cutting.
Does anyone else think that Eldraine is an elf? The name is very similar to Eldamari, and we’re seen Magic use similar names for other characters, Minotaurs Tangarth and Angarth, vampires(Kazarov and Markov, and then all these vampire names end in “a”: Vona, Olivia, Lucia, Jeleva, Garza, Etrata, Elenda, Drana), and Goblins Grenzo and Krenko.
Populate - Abzan. It would be cool if some of the cards showed the Golgari working with the Selesnya, as Golgari likes making tokens also.
Madness - Grixis
Flashback - Esper
Morph - Jeskai
This way I’m hoping they can print the battlebond lands for enemy colors. They did a good job reprinting the talismans but enemy colors still need more support.
Also, if they could reprint Wheel of fortune for the madness deck that would be awesome.
I’d like to see battlebond lands for enemy colors, a Boros Control planeswalker Commander(like Nahiri, the harbinger, but designed for Commander), and a legendary Kavu.
We’re getting Gerard? What is the source?
Also, do official spoilers begin August 1st?
