How is everyone feeling about Reid duke sticking with 4 iok mainboard and 2 thoughtseize in the side?

Doesn't this seem loose? I know Reid's one of the best players in the world...but I'm having trouble getting on board with this one.

Some people on Facebook are saying it's Reid so he's probably right. How's everyone else feeling about it?

Reid said that his current version is a rough draft and he’ll make changes to it after playtesting. It’s also hard to predict the meta and see how many Burn/aggro/midrange decks there will be compared to control/combo.

So many things I don’t understand:

-When he was attacking with 2 BBE and the opppnent blocked with a creeping tar pit, why didn’t he let a BBE die and then return it with KC?

-Why did he side out Pulse when it answers Jace and Tasiguir?

-When the opponent had 1 land in play on turn 3, why not play the fulminator mage and destroy that land?

I’m not sure 1 “best Jace shell” will be determined, as Blue Moon, Azorius, Grixis, and Jeskai each have their advantages and could be the best deck depending on the meta.

Can anyone give me the quick rundown on Field of Ruin and why you would play it over Tectonic Edge or Ghost Quarter?

We can activate FoR turn 3 and play a BBE turn 4. We are a mana intensive deck with all the 3/4 drops, scooze, manlands, and the extra cards we draw with Bob. FoR can deal with problem lands without sacrificing resources.

FoR is best in Azorius control though that also runs path, Settle the wreckage, and GQ, and makes the opponent run out of basics, while playing spreading seas on nonbasics.

I don’t know if FoR is the right call for us. Right now I’m just playtesting it as a 1-of. It won me a game against American Jace control, but a GQ or Tec Edge would have also.

I’ve been running 5 basic lands with a single FoR, and have liked my manabase.

Shanebeeps, I can see GW coco being a problem. Graffdiggers cage helps. I bring in brutality to hit mana dorks, voice early and to potentially snag a coco out of hand. Both Lilly's are very good in match up...it's a grind game and u want as much value as u can get. Iok their paths and let them path goyf early to pave the way for dark confidant. They only run 3-4 paths. With our confidant engine online and cascading bbes u should outvalue them.

Liliana of the Veil is bad against a deck that can sacrifice Voice or Kitchen Finks to her -2 and can put a Loxodon Smiter on the battlefield to her +1. She’s the first card I board out against GW Coco.

If decks like GW valuetown, zoo, Abzan Coco, and Dredge start seeing more play, we’ll have to add Kalitas back to the 75.

I’m running 2 Raging Ravine and 1 Field of Ruin.

Scooze is an amazing card, but we never want to have 2 in play at the same time, Bob/goyf are better turn 2 plays against the majority of decks, and we need lots of green mana and creatures in the GY to take advantage of him. I like 2 MB, but the Jund Master likes 3.

Right now I’m trying a list that runs 11 1-drops, 8 3-drops, 2 manlands, and 24 lands total. I don’t understand lists that run 4+ manlands. I feel like as Jund players we want early answers and we have enough threats with BBE.

Also, symbolism is strong in Magic art. If you only look at the visual clues that were depicted on Ixalan cards about the whole Ugin/Azor involvement and how Jay13x pieced almost the whole story together based on a few art clues... details like this matter. There is no such thing as coincidence in magic art.

Well, there’s also seeing things that aren’t there. The helmet(hat?) that Champion of dusk wears looks more like Bolas’s horns than that art. Are those Bolas horns on the shoulder armor of Oathsworn Vampire? Is the Merfolk depicted in Negate an agent of Bolas with that hair? What about Everdawn champion? What about sanguine glorifier? What about Angarth or Dinosaurs with horns?

Jace decks have path to exile, detention sphere, Settle the Wreckage and Terminus to deal with Dredge. If you want to play a card that’s not just a board wipe but can answer Storm’s goblin tokens, you can run Golgari Charm. Rakdos Charm is also an option, where you can have all those goblin tokens deal damage to the storm player.

I'm with Spsiegel1987 on the 3 KCommand main. BBE into KCommand loops is insane. I never felt this dirty playing Jund. I also run 5 discard 1 Brutality, 1 LotH. However I have no room for Push anymore. I know I may get punish for it but I'm thoroughly impressed with LotH and 3 KCommands. If i'm playing into a trap, please talk me out of it.

How many 3 drops are you running? I feel like we need at least 1 pulse MB for Jace, and we probably don’t want to run more than 8 3 drops. Maybe we could get away with 9?

I feel like 24 lands is good for us. We may not run serum visions, but we have Bob. Also, I thought some control lists ran more than 24 lands? My manabase only runs 2 manlands though, and 1 colorless land in Field of Ruin.

It's not a bad list, there's only one huge thing I'd knock you for---that LOTV. LOTV should REALLY be 4x copies. Junk could get away with 3 because of lingering souls and the clunkiness of the deck
    .

How does this critique make any sense when we have no legitimate idea what the metagame will look like? Online is nothing but Bloodbraid Elf and Jace decks everywhere. I'm fairly certain the next major paper tournament won't be just those decks.

I'm not sure Jund has ever ran 3x LOTV

Reid Duke is extremely against going below 4 copies, and very few lists have significant results without the whole playset

...I mean----is this really that bold of a statement or prediction?

I understand something like, "hey, I don't agree with 3x K command and cutting Pulse", but---to be called out on 3x LOTV or people suggesting 2x Dreadbores?

The regulars here have been playing this deck too long to know all of this

I remember when regulars said people were crazy for running less than 4 abrupt decays or running less than 4 lightning bolts. Metas change, and as an “answer everything” deck, we need to be open to change in order to answer the meta.

Also, I would argue LOTV is better in junk because they have lingering souls to discard to lily.

How is there “no way” that 2 dreadbore is correct? It answers:

In addition to being able to kill creatures. I believe all those cards are going to see a lot of play. Lots of people will be running Jace, and people will adjust to Jund’s Return. White decks will have Elspeth in the sideboard. More people will switch to Tron or BW tokens to prey on us. People will play GR Blood Moon with BBE and Garruck Wildspeaker.

Yeah, Dreadbore is a sorcery, but we’re casting it on our turn anyway off of a cascade, and a lot of times we want to destroy a blocker during our turn. It can’t answer attacking man-lands, but we have bolt, push, field of ruin, and fulminator mage for that, plus artifact destruction to take out affinity’s manlands.

I don’t know if 2 dreadbore is right or not, but I feel it’s way too early to say it’s definitely not correct.

Burn/fast aggro will be part of the meta but so will control, combo, ramp, and slower creature decks.

I still like a 4/2 split of IoK and TS. TS being able to hit Jace, Supreme Verdict, Cryptic Command, Karn, Wurmcoil Engine, Reality Smasher, Collected Company, Master of Waves, and BBE is great.

I still think 6 turn 1 discard MB is the right number. Protecting a turn 2 Bob or a turn 2 goyf that you’ve made into a 3/4 is huge.
