Feb 16, 2019I’m not saying all the planeswalkers should die, but we’ve now had 9 sets in a row with 0 planeswalker deaths, and the last planeswalker who died is in the underworld and can get rescued. Before that we had 6 sets with 0 planeswalker deaths. I understand they like printing new versions of planeswalkers, but planeswalkers aren’t immortal, and at some point some of them should die.Posted in: Magic Storyline

Would be so sweet!
Oh yeah, lets just kill off all the face characters of the game, most of which are actually popular outside of places like this who hate on every planeswalker that shows up for one block. That is totally a good hook to go with now that we got our Shocklands sales bump.
Game of Thrones has proven that you can have successful fantasy storytelling and characters dying. It’s boring to have the same characters in the story over and over and over again with them facing death-defying odds all the time and always escaping with little more than scratches.
Feb 12, 2019Posted in: Commander (EDH)Quote from Carthage »It certainly won't be broken in EDH. In legacy and modern, perhaps.
It's a 3 drop with a conditional can't play lands ability that emphasises basics, AND is stapled to a 2/1 body that's pretty easy to kill (note that territorial dispute, limited resources and worms of the earth are all enchantments which are harder to deal with).
It would be banned before it even saw play. There are so many casual edh decks that run almost no basic lands.
Simply: Land, chrome mox, simian spirit guide, general, you can't play lands for the rest of the game because I was on the play.
The card would be broken in half for casual and competitive play in the worst way, denying people the ability to play their decks.
I think a combination of the Thalia’s would be better:
Creatures, non-basic lands, and artifacts your opponents control enter the battlefield tapped.
Noncreature spells cost 1 more to cast.
Feb 12, 2019Posted in: Commander (EDH)Quote from Shadow345 »I don't want to turn sideways.
Then why are you looking at Boros? Just sayin'.
Look at Aurelia, The Warleader. Even with the extra high life totals and multiple players of Commander you throw in some Double Strike ( Duelist's Heritage ) on top of Double Damage ( Dictate of the Twin Gods or Charging Tuskodon ] and throw in a Heartless Hidetsugu then those high life totals are going to look pretty low in next to no time.
Every color combination can turn sideways.
Think of all the things that Sultai, mono blue, and colorless can do in Commander: combo, control, voltron, tribal, midrange, etc. But Boros can only turn sideways? Isn’t every color and color combination supposed to have depth? Isn’t it strange that colorless has better card draw than Boros?
The RW Nahiri would be an awesome Boros Commander that isn’t broken and would allow for a Boros control deck. A Boros commander that lets you draw a card every time you cast a spell that’s both red and white would have deckbuilding restrictions but also give Boros some much needed card draw.
Boros aggro is badly outclassed by Edgar Markov, Krenko, and some Mono white strategies. Right now there is no advantage to playing Boros. It would be nice if in C19 we could get a new kind of Boros commander that allows players to try a strategy that isn’t supported right now.
Feb 9, 2019Posted in: Commander (EDH)Quote from Honor Basquiat »Clerics seem cool.
What are some of the best tribal cleric spells and interactions?
- Academy rector
- Arena rector
- Rotlung reanimator
- Doubtless one
- Battletide alchemist
- Pontiff of blight
- Suture priest
- Soul warden
- Soul’s attendant
- Auriok champion
- Mother of tunes
- Selfless spirit
- Remorseful cleric
Play powerful enchantments and planeswalekrs with the rectors, sac outlets like Ayli, death triggers like grave pact, lifegain triggers like Karlov, and creatures with evasion for Tymna. Creatures with death triggers and etc triggers like Ashen Rider can be reused with Ravos.
Feb 9, 2019Magic is about answers and interaction. Playing a wasteland isn’t any different from playing a terminate. The social aspect of commander says you should target the strongest player, not the weakest player. If you use a wasteland or terminate against the weakest player, that’s a jerk move. If you use it against the strongest player, it’s a smart move.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Other options are search hate, like Aven Mindcensor, or a reclamation sage to blow up a sol ring or mirrari’s wake. Or you can try and kill the player who is ramping.
Feb 8, 2019I could see Domri joining the Temur at some point, but I’m just kinda sick of Gruul planeswalkers, especially if they made him cost 4 mana. Why has Wizards made so many Gruul planeswalkers that cost 4 mana?Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Jan 31, 2019A low curve Edgar Markov list can be nasty. Check out ISBpathfinder’s list:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Jan 31, 20191. The Gruul don’t have any other spellcaster who can summon boar after boar like Domri. Domri may also have received some help from Nicol Bolas.Posted in: Magic Storyline
2. The power of old walkers, neowallers, and legendaries are on a Spectrum. A couple of legendaries scaring old walkers are the exception. The power of Urza can’t be compared to the power of Squee, Hannah, cho-Manno, Tangarth, etc.
Bogey is powerful, but what’s his conditioning like? If you keep sending boar after boar at him, eventually he would yield.
Jan 28, 2019None of the guilds conform to an idealized society. Look at the flavor text of Supreme Verdict. You call that civilized? What about locking people up for crimes they might commit in the future? The Boros engage in police brutality on a regular basis. The Orzhov have slaves. The Orzhov, Rakdos, and Selesnya are all cults. The Golgari unleash plagues on civilization while the Gruul smash buildings. The Simic and Izzit engage in reckless experiments. The Dimir I don’t think anyone would defend.Posted in: Magic Storyline
That’s the point of Ravnica. 10 guild which each have their own culture and laws existing together in the same city. It’s fantastical, and it’s the reason why some people love Ravnica and others hate it.
I also don’t know if starting a war with the Rakdos would be wise. It would also probably take a long time, given how much of a bureaucracy the Azorius is. I also don’t think that all members of the Azorius would agree that they have the legal authority to declare war on another guild.
Jan 27, 2019I updated this thread to include cards from the newest set. I now have academy and arena rector and have powerful enchantments and artifacts. I also have a lot of sacrifice outlets for them, other creatures that are good to sacrifice, and cards that create value when I sacrifice creatures.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
I’m also still trying to limit the amount of 3 drops and 5 drops, and ended up cutting some quality 3 and 5 drops because that’s what my commanders cost and I want it to curve well.
Jan 25, 2019NZB2323 posted a message on Is Kiora the most expendable planeswalker Wizards has atm?Isn’t Jaya the most expendable? She’s already accomplished so much, she’s going to die of old age anyway, and the 2nd most popular planeswalker is mono red.Posted in: Magic Storyline
It’s kind of like stories you hear of old people in Japan cleaning up radiation, because they figure they’re going to die of old age before the radiation affects them and they want to leave behind a better place for future generations.
