I'm sure I am still making mistakes. I haven't really played competitive magic in 10-15 years, and I am still learning how to play this deck. I have only played it two Standard events. Thanks for the tips on the SB, that has been one of my biggest weaknesses, not sideboarding effectively. I will have to pick up some pithing needles, and anger of the gods. I am also hoping to pick up 2 more Reckoners next weekend. For some reason my wife thinks the mortgage and the bills have to come first.
Went to FNM in with this deck last night, and went 2-2, but had a lot of fun. I beat U/W Control and Mono Green aggro, lost to a B/Gr midrange, and a U/W control. My first game was against a U/W Control deck, and I went T1 Cackler, T2 Zealot, T3 Reckoner, T4 Fanantic.
Out of about 15 players I saw 4-5 U/W Control, another RDW, a couple of MBD, and alot of other control type decks that being new to standard I'm not sure what they were. Any hints on how to deal with Elspeth? I am thinking about replacing the Frostburn Weirds in the SB with Electrickery to deal with the 1/1 tokens.
So I went to a standard tournament a couple of weeks ago with this deck. There were only 8 players, and I went 1-2. I made some mistakes that costs me the matches I lost because I have not played a standard deck in a competitive setting in almost a decade.
I have recently obtained 4 Ash Zealot and 2 Boros Reckoner, but I am not sure what to remove. I am thinking about replacing the GHC with the Zealots, and 1 Phoenix & 1 Fanatic for the Reckoners. I do not have any [CARD]Chandra, Pyromaster[CARD] yet.
As for the sideboard I threw in the Weirds because I saw a few other lists running them, and I had them on hand, but I a not sure what matchup to bring them in for.
I know the Wizards posts the deck lists for each DE for each deck that goes 4-0 or 3-1. I was bored this morning so I broke down the DE's from 05/15 - 05/21 to see the which decks are doing the best. What I found is that there were 130 decks, of which 27 went 4-0.
Post (mostly fissure) had 33% of all of the decks and 52% of the 4-0 decks
Mono Green Aggro was next with 22% of all of the decks, and 11% of the 4-0 decks.
Affinity followed with 12% of the total decks, and 11% of the 4-0 decks.
Unfortunately this data is incomplete without knowing how many total Post/MGA/Aff decks were in DE.
Is there any place to see all of the deck lists that entered each DE?
Not sure if anybody can answer this but this happened to me in a pre-release event this past weekend.
My opponent had a Dimir Keyrune on the board, and on his turn he turned it into a 2/2 unblockable creature, and then Ciphered Paranoid Delusions onto it.)
At the end of his turn the Keyrune is no longer a 2/2 creature. On his next turn he again turned the keyrune into a 2/2 creature, and insisted that the Ciphered Paranoid Delusions was still encoded on the creature. The judge agreed with him stating that the creature goes into exile, and the encoded card stays on it.
****DECKBUILDERS NOTES****
-focus on Milling. curve caters to that first.
-Manor Gargoyle is more of an alternate method. Only activate him if necessary. you want him indestructable (Supreme Verdict comes to mind)
-Devastation tide is a desperation reset. No need to miracle cast just because you draw it. Use as situation needs.
-Manor Gargoyle not your fancy? Delver of Secrets fits in this mold to lower the curve and functions as a Trep Blade carrier.
-use nephalia drownyard often.
-Rise from the grave is meant to change the pace if you mill a creature into their graveyard that you might want to use.
I know the mana needs work but i figured i would put it up to get some feed back while i figure out how to fix it. what do you guys think?[/QUOTE]
My biggest issue with Standard right now is the cost to be competitive. $300 - $500 for a deck is well out of my price range for a single deck. With the price of the cards in Standard who can afford to experiment with rogue decks?
I've been experimenting with a new deck in Standard Pauper that has been a lot of fun, but isn't quite there. Almost all of the other SP decks I have played are aggro, and not much else. Sometimes I can handle the creatures, other times I just get overrun. Any suggestions on modifications? Also, I have no idea where to start with the sideboard.
This is true, but money is keeping casuals from moving beyond the kitchen table to a more competitive format.
