I get that, but that doesn't change that it's really awful. The PW Deck cards haven't been really great, but most have had casual niches. This doesn't just seems bad even there.

    Commander, here i go...

Why? What deck could want this? If you want the untap clause play Garruk Wildspeaker. I just can't imagine this is playable in any format.
Some people forget that command is a singleton format, and that you might want "worse versions" of cards just to have extra copies of their effects....

Right, my point is you kill it at the END of a turn so it's only going to be active for 2 seconds
And what it had to do with my point? I just said that "once activated" he wouldn't be turned off, then you contest my argument with something completely unrelated. If what you wanted was to make a new point, why did you contest mine in the first place?

    Quote from FearDReaper »
Right but my point was that if you sac a creature to activate Bontu and then they remove Bontu via bounce, exile, sac etc then you have killed creature and used 2 mana in exchange for very little. If I'm looking for a sac outlet then I'd rather have something for free and/or has a better payoff. Greater Gargadon is a personal favourite.
Being a good player also counts to not fall to such blowouts...

Yes and No. You can force them to activate it at inopportune times by killing the creature they want to sac with Bontu at the end of your turn.
"once activated". To disrupt it you have to pre-emptively do it, but after it is turned on, it won't be turned off on that turn.

Even the Blue and Red god can be turned off during combat in a pinch with some tricks (there are both instand speed discard and cards that makes your opponent draw, not that they are good, but they exist), white god and green god can be turned off by just killing creatures. If Bontu is a creature, it will be a creature until EoT.

True, but that's still a steep cost as opposed to just controlling a creature with power 4 or greater like the green God.
But it's also undisruptable once activated. Green god has the easier condition, but is also the easier to disrupt. And the ability impact is very low.

    Quote from scoed »
This card is horrid. It is built in card disadvantage each time it attacks or blocks and for what a 4 power creature on turn 3?
Arsitocrat would like to have a word with you. Sacrifice is not always card disvantage when your deck is built to take advantage of it.
Also, 5 damage (or 1 damage + 1~2 opponents creature) + scry 1 + 1 life for 2 manas is not worth a card? Really?

You know you're drawing those cards because you need them, not because they make kefnet go?
Thanks for reinforcing my poin. You want the cards anyway, so you're not doing something out of the ordinary to have him online. With a hard to disrupt condition, and one that you already want to acheive (different from the red one) this might be the most played god. What really matters is if there will be a control deck on standard or not.

    Quote from AnImAr_ »
If your opponent has 7 cards in hand as a control player, you're losing anyways.
    Someone understands it Grin

Yeah. The carelesness in design is striking. Even a noob can see that this is easy to activate whereas Kefnet isn't. I don't see why they make the latter so stupidly hard to play.
Except that you can interact easily with this one to turn him off at instant speed. How does you turn off Kefnet at instant speed when instant speed discard is close to non-existent? Not to mention that Kefnet is evasive.

That is why kefnet is harder to activate, because he is harder to turn of and far more thratening once active.

My guess was a trampler with a formidable like enabler and a pump ability.
Deathtouch make it worse since it is already big enough to kill a lot of things.

All those gods are very boring.

It boggles my mind how butthurt people are about Never//Return. Ruinous Path is a playable card.
    Quote from Hawk7915 »
That being said, if Heart is banned and Gideon is also banned (or rotates out, along with Ruinous Path) this could still see standard play and it is not awful in EDH.

This show how bad cards can be playable just out of necessity. Ruinous Path and this one are bad, but it are the "less bad" options, so people will play them just because they don't have anything better. But seeing how some planeswalker opress standard, we can see how weak they truly are, and how poor they are at doing what was supposed to be their jobs.

Everyone saying Aftermath is so bad is thinking of it like a fuse card. Obviously 4BBB to exile target creature or planeswalker and create a 2/2 black zombie token is miserable especially at sorcery speed. But the idea is that 1BB to destroy, and then later when you are flooded 3B to create a 2/2 and exile a card from grave is really strong as a lategame option. And, if you happen to be on seven mana and casting both sides simultaneously is beneficial you can do that too. Evaluate this more like Flashback, and less like you'd evaluate a split card with fuse.

Not to say I think a ton of the Aftermath cards are particularly good, but the constant complaining reminds me a lot of people saying Think Twice is unplayable because Jace's Ingenuity and Careful Consideration were legal at the same time.
With think twice you're paying 1 more for the second half of the card. With this one, considering that the effect of the card is found on 1 CMC cards, you're paying 3 more for the second half.

What bugs me most about those gods is that they are a "do nothing" other than hold an overcosted activated ability while not online. Theros gods at last did something while not online. This one is a lot worse than heliod, who wasn't good at all either. She hits for 1 more, but heliod had an effect while not online and his tokens were stronger.

    Quote from EasyLover »
You seem to overlook that Oketra is easily a 4 Mana 6/6 Indestructable Beat-machine. Would you play that ?
Heliod was a 5/6 Indestructible Beat-machine and saw zero play. Heliod condition wasn't much harder than this to acheive, he had an effect while offline and made better tokens.

I really feel bad for the green god. The green god will be just a fattie with trample a bizarre condition to be creature and a overcosted ability that gives litte advantage. Then we have this guy, pure value machine. After the several underwhelming mythics we saw until now, finally something that is really impressive.

If I cast the top half from my hand, can I cast the bottom half from my graveyard?

Aftermatch is a static ability with two effects:
1 - It allows to cast the bottom half from the grave. (and only from the grave)
2 - It exiles the card if the bottom half is cast from the grave.

Notice that the card is exiled even if you cast it from the grave using another method (like giving it flashback or using harness the storm)

So there is no advantage in using harness the storm to cast the bottom half of an aftermatch card, maybe except casting it at instant speed if the top half is an instant. You can still cast the top half from the grave with it thought, and the card is not exiled.

10/15/2006: This has no mana cost, which means it can’t normally be cast as a spell. You could, however, cast it via some alternate means, like with Fist of Suns or Mind's Desire.

    Fist of Suns
You may pay WUBRG rather than pay the mana cost for spells that you cast.

Replace WUBRG with 0 and we have a similar text as this card. If Fist of Suns effect can cast it, this enchantment can

Why is it templated as, "Whenever you cycle or discard a card"? Isn't cycling already discarding?

Because there are red cards that use discarding that dont cycle. This triggers off those too.
Then just use "whenever you discard a card", discarding is part of Cycling cost, so "whenerver you discard a card" fit both cycling and non-cycling discard. Adding the cycling clause is simply redundant.

"Whenever you cycle or discard a card" , what is the point of the cycle clause? You have to discard a card to cycle so it would be the same if it was just "whenever you discard a card".
