MaximumC posted a message on Colorless Mana Confirmed - Any Effect on Older Cards?Hey, so now that we have confirmation that anything that generated colorless mana is going to now produce <>, does this change anything about older cards? Is there going to be any price movement? Here are my thoughts.Posted in: Market Street Café
The announcement that 1 in a cost means "1 mana of any color" and the same text when used by an ability that adds colorless mana now means "add <> to your mana pool" does not mean anything by itself. Everything plays exactly the way it did; they're just changing the formatting to differentiate <> from 1. Even so, we may see some price differentiation between cards if people prefer one format over another. Sol Ring, Mind Stone, and so forth will probably be reprinted with <> now on. It remains to be seen whether people prefer the new or old version.
But, that's minor compared to the effect of using <> as an evergreen mechanic, which appears to be the case, now. They've opened the door to using <> as a "sixth color," and we know they will support it with lots of cards at least in Oath of the Gatewatch. I suspect all the Kozilek-alligned Eldrazi will require it, for example. With every card they print requiring <> in its casting cost, all sources of colorless mana printed in the past get a little better.
Of course, you probably don't see an effect unless there are some high-power cards that impact Modern or Legacy. Let's assume that we get some new <>-costing Eldrazi with a power level around Wurmcoil Engine. Does this affect anything? Now, in Legacy and Vintage we have the Sol Lands and Mishra's Workshop and have already been playing high-cost artifact creatures in MUD or Shops decks. Workshop always imposed exactly this kind of restriction on the use of its mana, and the other MUD creatures like Wurmcoil have such high costs that they can't easily be played outside of that archetype anyway. So, in those formats, it feels like <>-mana powerhouses will not really add much. The decks that can play them already exist. If they get better, then sure, your Ancient Tombs and City of Traitors might go up, but it's not really breaking new ground.
In Modern, the same kind of thing is true with Tron decks. The decks running all the high-casting cost colorless spells will just keep on running the high-casting cost colorless spells, <> or no. I don't see much impact here, either.
The only major impact I could see from <> might happen if WotC is printing new CHEAPER creatures that require <>. Utility Eldrazi around the 1 or 2cc range that require <>. Or, perhaps we get legitimate SPELLS that require <>. If we get these, then we might see new types of colorless decks crop up in Legacy or Modern that operate differently from Affinity (where the cards need to be artifacts) and Shops (where the deck leverages powerful expensive cards). There's possibly a niche here for a weenie, non-artifact colorless deck. In Legacy, Cloudpost and Glimmerpost and Vesuva seem well-suited for a deck with a low colorless curve that wants to be able to ramp while still hitting its smaller cards on-curve. In Modern, Mutavault probably helps this plan immensely.
Finally, if we see decent spells or creatures that require <>, I think we see an uptick in dual lands that can generate colorless as well. Basically, they get upgraded to tri-lands. So here I think we're gonna see movement in pain lands and filter lands, at least.
So, that's my prediction:
(1) If <> is used on fat fat fatties, there will be no impact unless MUD starts winning tournaments;
(2) If <> is used on small dudes or spells, I predict uptick in the Posts, Vesuva, Mutavault, Pain lands, and Filter lands.
What do you think? -

He's back to being a popular Standard card so he's expensive
He'll rotate out once Shadows over Innistrad releases and he'll likely drop rather quickly and then inch back up since he goes in almost any EDH deck and is quite good. I don't think he's as Modern-playable as Karn is his rise once he's out of T2 won't be as noticeable. -

This is a change for the better. Rai is doing a great job providing accurate, unbiased pricing data and context/commentary.
I just wish the discussion wasn't so separated from the articles.
Rancored Elf aside. I miss them being in market street, if not simply for the fact that it gave me something additional to contribute from time to time as I would post updates. That said however, as was pointed out by Galspanic the gainer threads tend to cover any significant movement upward in the value of the cards from a set, and the updates on the main page do a good job showing an unbiased valuation of the cards using the sources that are being used for it. Just seems like Market Street has gotten a bit quieter (At least for me) since the change. And honestly, looking at current standard sets, I don't think any of the current sets (even the new one really) has an overall average box value (based on the lower end of ebay buy it now prices) that makes it worth buying. At the end of the day though I am glad to see that where it has moved, that it is getting regular updates every few days, that's something that neither RE or myself (once the set had been out for say a month) would ever really do, so that definitely helps with providing information for the sets quicker and more regularly.
Jeff, your updates were also incredibly appreciated. I'd love it if you'd consider dropping them into the Standard Gainers thread as sort of a barometer of the entire set, and a way to bring the discussion back to Market Street. -

SonofaBith posted a message on The PucaTrade ThreadYou replied prior to my edit. Please see my edit and justify why a buyer shouldn't get the right to refuse to pay market price, at the cost of agreeing not to get the card.Posted in: Market Street Café
You're saying "Yeah, Sphinx's Tutelage SHOULD have been more, Hangarback SHOULD have been more", so now people are supposed to know what all cards SHOULD cost in the future, as opposed to the value Puca put on them? Then that's Puca's fault, and people are paying the price for Puca's errors. If those cards were put on Puca at that price in the first place, they wouldn't have gone on to my Wants list. Why not just implement the cap system of checks and balances and be done with all the bull*****? -

Aranthar posted a message on The PucaTrade ThreadPosted in: Market Street CaféQuote from SonofaBith »Puca has today published an article about the card value cap/price limit feature. If you're unaware, its a new feature that allows someone to put a cap on the value of a card that the user is willing to pay, but such a feature has been reserved for Gold level members only. So far while the feature has been applauded, reserving it for Gold only has been panned by 100% of the responses to the article. I have no idea if it will cause Puca to reconsider, but I'm posting the link to the story in case anyone wants to add their thoughts that such a safety-net type feature should be made available to all members (or at lease to all paying members, which would include Silver). The CEO of Puca has already weighed in, so they are reading our comments there.

Give it more than a few hours - I just replied in the comments saying I agreed with Gold tier for this feature. And I'm not the first.
Basically, common tier should be the minimum to trade cards. Not the best features, not the important features. The bare minimum features.
People posting here and over there are generally market savvy traders, folks who see Blood Moon spike and immediately add it to their Wants while the puca price is low, planning to pull it once the price moves. People who want a feature to help them play the market should pay for it. The vast majority of outrageous price spikes are eternal cards. I don't think casual players are being inconvenienced by this "limitation". - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Ugin is a 2-of in one modern deck, and doesn't really fit in any others. He could also easily get squeezed out of Tron by a better colorless bomb, and we have OGW coming out in a couple months which is likely to contain colorless bombs.
Karn is a 4-of in the same deck, from a less opened set, and was $10 when SoM block rotated. I see no reason to believe that Ugin would stay over $20, let alone near the current price.

The fact that Voice never got beyond $50 is further evidence that Jace's price is absurdly inflated. That set had nothing whatsoever of value. Origins also has 2 other flip walkers over $20, the most expensive non-fetchland rare in standard (Hangarback Walker), a legacy staple reprint...
Fringe play as a 1-2 of in a few eternal builds is not going to keep a mythic from a recent expansion above $20, let alone $35. Batterskull, Griselbrand, Geist of Saint Traft, and Craterhoof Behemoth are Legacy staples, from sets likely opened less than Origins. All are under $20. Yes, some have had promo reprintings, but not enough to significantly affect supply of those cards.
Here's the list of mythics that have rotated from standard worth at least $35:
Bob
Clique
SoFaI
Goyf
Mox Opal
LotV
JTMS
Honorable mention for Emrakul and Karn Liberated, who would make the list if not for the MM2 reprint.
I have a hard time seeing flip Jace belonging in that list anytime soon. Given the difficulty in reprinting him, I can see it somewhere years down the line, but this is a card that will lose at least 75% of its value on rotation.

This is the most over-inflated card I've ever seen.

Every box DOES come with 5 full-art basics in the form of the basic in the 5 booster packs, so it's not inaccurate to depict one on the box.
3
Even if Blade was amazing (it's not), the only format it does anything in is a singleton format. If it is anything more than a $2-3 card while this set is in print I will be shocked.

1) targeting/selecting lands. If my opponent has lands of a few different types in play, and I want to blow one up, I find that they pile up in such a way that I can't see the land I want short of getting a very lucky click. I have similar issues tapping my own mana for spells (while trying to leave the right colors open for another spell), or trying to target the right creature with an instant in a dense pile of attackers. Is there some sort of zoom in option for targeting that I'm missing?
2) Abbot of Keral Keep - if the exiled card has too much text, I can't seem to scroll down to the "play this card" option. I do see a scroll bar, and I swear I could scroll in the past, but lately I can't get the scroll bar to respond.
This is on the iPhone 6. Am I missing something?

If you care this much, buy the service. Or accept that it's not for you and deal with the consequences.
I don't have ESPN in my cable package, because I seldom watch it and it's much more expensive. Tonight my local baseball team got moved to the ESPN Sunday game of the week, which means I won't get to watch it. That's kind of a bummer, but a consequence of a choice I made to save money. If I was more upset about not getting to watch the game, I would up my cable package. I don't see it as evidence that Comcast should give me ESPN for free though.
