    Quote from grimafacia
I would like to return this thread to repeat what i've said before. There's nothing cool in Stax. Unless you live in this Oregon, everyone will hate you and your cards. And if there's a drunk fool playing against you, he might be punching the smug faces.

There is everything cool in Stax. Playing against Stax made me so much smarter about how I play. I don't overextend anymore, and I don't waste spot removal for things that aren't immediate threats. My whole playgroup is smarter for playing against Stax, and we have more fun because of it.

I've read most of your opinion through this thread, and it sounds like you just can't adapt.

For the sake of the thread, the zombies are slow, can do short waddle sprints, can only infect by biting, and have to have their brain destroyed or separated from their body.

I will surround my house with free running treadmills that can be used to generate electricity. The shambling legion can walk tirelessly towards my windows while I watch TV and drink cold Mt. Dew.

I'm new around here, and there's a lot of discussion that I feel like I've missed out on (not just in this thread). As a way of introduction I'd like to start here:

    Quote from Oldaughd
    On atheism:
Am I raging? I don't think I am. But trust me, if you'd been insulted and abused your whole childhood by religious people because you disagreed with them, you might have some pent-up frustration too. Try to look at it from our side. It's not like we are choosing to not believe in your God, we just don't. And unless we lie, we are shunned. Is that fair to us? Can you be convinced that Mohammad is the true Prophet? No? Then you understand exactly how we feel.

I'm sorry. I was one of the misguided youth that did not help your childhood experience. Of course I can't be sure I had any personal interaction with you, but regardless, I share a burden of responsibility for how you have been treated. I would like to apologize on behalf any who still act that way. You're absolutely right that it is not fair to you. I'm doing what I can to prevent your situation from being repeated.

Any Christian who treated you that way had clearly missed the message. I know I did. So again, I'm sorry for what you've been through.

That said, I'd like to offer my thoughts on the OP.

    Quote from Darklightz
Whenever people ask why God lets bad things happen, the most common answers are "God works in mysterious ways", "God meant for things to happen this way" or "It's all part of God's plan"

Those are wrong answers. God doesn't "let bad things happen." Those things just do happen. It's part of having free will. The ability to make choices leads to consequences. Outcomes are the sum of many choices; most are far outside our control. This is all part of a much larger discussion commonly known as "The problem of Evil."

The idea of "God's Plan" helps comfort people, though, thus it's appeal.

I'm going to play it. I don't know how, but I will make a deck that uses this as a primary win con.

Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, True Believer, a bajillion counterspells...

    It's time for Wary Tales!

There were only three players in our game: Niv-Mizzet, Some Black/White general, and Norin. The Niv-Mizzet player was certainly dominating the board. At least I had the better defenses (thank you very much, Genesis Chamber). My still high life total helped Mr. Winface knock off the second player with Malignus and a clone of Malignus. Before he took a swing at me, I used Moggcatcher to bring in a Siege-Gang Commander and enough chump blockers for a decade.

That was true until he played a kicked Rite of Replication on the Malignus. Mr. Winface was quite pleased with himself at that point.

Until I played a Wild Ricochet on his kicked Rite of Replication. He got five Myr tokens; I got five Malignuses. Maligni? Malignussi? I don't care. They were big and I had five of them. His were still bigger because I actually had one more health than him, but I turned sideways with all five. When he declared his two as blockers, I used the Siege-Gang Commander to ping myself for two damage. Most satisfying scoop I've ever witnessed.

A personal favorite is Dark Supplicant and the obviously paired Scion of Darkness. "Let's get a bunch of believers together, kill ourselves, and bring forth an unholy 6/6 trample reanimating monster."

Same Dechs Kaison of the City of Heroes forums? I thought your name looked really familiar.

That'd be me. Who be you from over that way?

Shame about City of Heroes going kaput, though. Ah well. Dark Armor really did suck, so I'm not too broken up over it. I will miss my Warshade.

Funny story, though, about Magic and City of Heroes. It was actually my mono black clerics deck that led me to the mindset where I could play Dark Armor well. Black had taught me that you treat life as a resource since I had many ways to get it back if I had to. I got to a point where I was just as comfortable playing my deck with 2 life as I was with 20. This carried over to Dark Armor, where I could play in the blinking red health zone because I had the tools to get it back if I needed to.

    Welcome to the forums!

Thanks much. I really think I'll enjoy it here. I hope to be an actual contributor, but there's already a lot of knowledge here. Not sure I'll be able to offer anything worthwhile.

I remember when I made the jump from lurker to member. I wanted to participate in one of the Creative Writing Contests.

    Welcome!

Creative Writing Contests? I will have to look into this! I'm a bit of a writer in my down time, so maybe I'll get involved in this stuff.

I play on the NA region as Dechs Kaison. I'd be happy to group up with any of you. I still haven't played any ranked games yet, though. Working myself up to it.

My favorite champs to play are:
    Jungle - Yi, Udyr
    Mid - Malzahar, Ryze
    Support - Janna, Zilean, Kayle
    Top - Cho'Gath, Nasus

    Gaka,

I have to thank you for this well written and engaging Primer. I pretty much registered on these forums just so I could say this.

The only reason I play EDH is because this deck sounded like so much fun. Red is most definitely not one of the colors I usually play (I've been in Black, Blue, Black, and Green so far), so I took a real gamble on whether the deck was all you hyped it up to be.

You haven't exaggerated in the slightest.

I've made a few variations on your deck to make the budget a little friendlier, as well as keep it in line with the power level of my friends. Obviously I'll never get my hands on an Imperial Recruiter. Crucible and the fetches are all out, too. I drafted a Zealous Conscripts, but I've got no Kiki-Jiki. I did make room for a Metatog (Nom nom 15 Myr tokens, swing for lethal) and Fiery Gambit.

Regardless, the deck is a blast and it's not an "Auto gang up on Dechs" deck. I couldn't be happier.

    Thanks again.

Hey MTGS! Thanks for being such a great resource all these years.

Call me Dechs. I've been playing Magic for about ten years now, but only in the more recent years have I become "really serious" about it.

I started writing out a history of all the Magic I've played and how it evolved, but it started getting way too long for an introduction. So I'll make this short.

My recent interests have been Draft and EDH. Draft is what brought me to MTGS in the first place and what enabled me to play EDH. I was never big on collecting cards, but drafting gave me a bunch of cards I was never going to use again. Then I stumbled on Gaka's Norin the Wary EDH Primer...

    And here I am.
