I don't mind reddit, but for the most part, I can't stand its branch comment system. It buries anything other than the clickbait trolly stuff that gets upvoted and spammed. -

kinamar posted a message on New Quick Draft paper format modeled after ArenaJust how modeled after it is it? Seriously? Arena regularly matches up people that are 1-2, 2-2, 1-1 against people 5-2, 6-1, 6-0 and what not. Pay outs are a joke on Arena for prizes.... if anything Arena should think about remodeling their draft after paper magic, let people sign up and once it hits 8 people fire a pod, What Arena has now is not really drafting since all you do is pick cards and bots take random cards out after you so everyone you play saw completely different packs and thus could of had a much stronger pool to choose from or far worse....Posted in: The Rumor Mill -

clan_iraq posted a message on Font of AgoniesIf you want to get any value from this you need to destroy 2+ creatures with its engine. Otherwise you might as well slot in any 2-3 cmc black removal spell like murder or cast down for better effect. The only output on this card is destroying creatures. And if its 2B to destroy 1 creature only after you've paid 4 life somehow, that's terrible. But if you're destroying 2+ creatures, that means you're both paying 8+ life in a game and facing a creature matchup where you need to destroy enemy threats- where paying 8 life is suicidal.Posted in: The Rumor Mill -

I recently had a baby and was locked out of salvation and couldn’t dedicate time to get it resolved. I’m aware that there are broken links in the primer and I’ll plan on having a full fix after ban announcement and m19 spoiler season ends.

Rosy Dumplings posted a message on Mothership Spoilers 4/5 - Gideon of the Trials + Trials/CartouchesWhile this Gideon is nice, I think that people are blowing him out of proportion.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
His +1 slows down midrange and vehicles while his animate ability breaks the mana curve and... that's about it. Still really good but overblown.
As for the emblem... honestly, that's not a factor in most games. Nine times out of ten, the emblem effectively adds the planeswalker's loyalty to your life total. Technically, you add the loyalty counter of each Gideon you play to your life total. With that said, however, nothing is stopping your opponent from knocking you to 0 life BEFORE going after Gideon (other than, you know, pressure from Gideon). Beyond acting as a cute "life gain" mechanic, this emblem only seems to do two things.
1. it stops alternative win conditions such as mill decks.
2. It allows some janky plays that would ordinarily kill you (such as demonic pact)
TLDR: This guy isn't platinum angel. While there are fewer DIRECT kill spells, you can directly attack Gideon in a way that you could never directly attack the angel. Since very few decks count on winning without damage, the emblem rarely serves any purpose beyond "life gain". The other effects are the significant part. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Does Treacherous Blessing count?

I'm much more concerned about it countering on cast triggers and abilities in general than countering storm cards.

Is this sarcasm? I am legitimately unsure.
Seems pretty bannable. Saheeli cat combo got banned although this requires either a 3rd card, 6 mana (4 for balista and 2 for lifelink) or 2 turns to go off. Bellowing Aegisaur + walking ballista never got banned so maybe this won't either?

not in mtgo though. MTGO has a token limit so once you hit the limit no new token->no new trigger. So you would get 201 polyraptors.

Not true. Unknown Shores hasn't been seeing play.
Mox amber is jank, It sees zero serious play. Occasionally it posts results, but pros don't show up to tournaments with mox amber decks. Only a few people were down on mox opal. I pretty sure I remember people losing their minds over it being busted. And noone thought chrome mox was bad. Mox diamond was almost the same card and was generally recognized as being good.
As another user pointed out, fast mana is what is good, 3 turns for 1 mana is not above curve in modern and this isn't going to be legal in standard. Best case scenario you have multiple in your opening hand and end up with 5-6 mana on turn 4, but lotus bloom already does this as a single card. You don't need 6+ mana for multiple turns to win and if you are using this to get to anything less than 5 mana on turn 4, you are just playing a bad land.
Lotus is the only card in modern that can put you up 3 mana by turn 4 in a single card. There are dozens of cards that can put you up 1 mana by turn 4.

I agree mostly, in fact that's what I thought at first, but I think the card deserves a little more credit. A lot of modern decks rely on creatures to win and this has a huge impact on combat. Otherwise there are still a few decks that would play a flag bearer for 1 mana. In rare cases you can do a mom impression with two of these out. It's definitely not mom though. Mom would have been pretty busted. I predict this will see fringe play.
