I am positive in the future, Wizards will probably make an equipment, or an aura with text along these lines, "Whenever you draw a card, this creature deals 1 damage to target creature or player." THEN this new Niv-Mizzet will become broken as well, until then, Livewire Lash and other cards do make pretty good combos with him, just nothing "infinite" like with "curiosity", which in reality, defined the old Niv-Mizzet when someone found out that combo. Other than the flavor text not being as "flavorful" as the other, this new version of Niv still maintains his flavor, he just goes at it differently is all, with a body more fit for a dragon.
Welcome to Mtgsalvation
Also, I believe their leaders. Not quite overlord status....Yet
Why thank you good sir. Indeed they are.
Personally, I am still waiting for the card designs of the new Rakdos and that triad dryad chick from Selesnya. I really like the new Niv-Mizzet, mostly because if I were to use him in EDH, I'd be able to maintain many friendships on the table of friends. Which was why I had to dismember my Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon Commander deck. Too many people hated him. Also, having a 5/5 body, and reversed ability to deal damage, and then draw, he's sure better stand alone in comparison to the old version, mostly because the other one seemed to rely heavily on other cards to combo with. Granted, you can still combo fairly well with this new one too, just he won't need it as often as the other...
