To everyone that said oh just walk into a walmart and get it at msrp its just not that easy. For the last 5 days me and 3 employees stop at a total of 6 target and walmarts in different areas on our way to work and have never once seen a mind seize deck. Most of the times nothing is there but if there is its usually evasive or power hungry and that's it. That's a good reason to preorder it or pay more then msrp because it just can't be found. Besides that I haven't heard of any second wave info. I know its coming just not sure when. I'm hoping in a few weeks in time for black friday

Having 24 makes a box perfect for an 8-man draft (3 packs per person). The set IS designed to be drafted after all.

    1 prize pack ldo!

Magic isn't an investment, get over it. If you want to invest, buy stocks.

Really? What about people that buy pallets of every set besides core sets and double or triple their money?

Also to the guy that says invest in gold. As an owner of several gold buying stores and retail locations in malls selling gold and silver bars I would have to say buying gold is a bad investment. Yes it went up for 10 years but what has it done the previous 50 years. But I like the fact that most people that buy gold or sell gold have no idea about the real values of gold so it has lined my pockets greatly Smile

Yeah, but they could. It's basically like you said before -- if your store can't get 18 boxes plus more from their distributors, they are incompetent.

There are many many stores I know of that are only getting 1-3 boxes extra from the distributors. The reason why is they have a **** magic store and sell booster boxes like gatecrash for 140 and fat packs for 55$ and barely run events.

I know allocations of a few stores. All are bigger buyers.

    Store
    A. 114 boxes
    B. 100 boxes
    C. 200 boxes

These are very rare numbers though. Most everyone else of 50+ stores I know are getting 2-20boxes from their distributor.

Also if a very tiny store is getting a huge amount its probably because either A. the store does lots of online business you don't know about
    B. they are one of only 2 stores in an entire state and so they are getting a really big chunk to help them stay alive

Individuals do this and some stores as well. Some people go to a GP and buy 30,000$ worth of one card and it raises the prices of that card or someone buys out everyone on TCGplayer all at once and it raises all the prices.

    Great post HiDeHo.

As for the "second print run," that's sort of a misnomer. It's one print run, sent out in two waves. My guess is so they can be sure they have enough product for the GP, but I could be wrong. The first wave and second wave are the same size from what I've been told, but only Premiere level shops will have the ability to get the second wave worth of boxes.

    Thanks!

Yeah the second wave of the entire print run is a little fuzzy. From what I'm told the numbers will be cut in half of the first wave. Thats all I've heard though so nothing concrete I can really add besides that.

Hearing from a TO about distribution numbers is nothing. Hearing it from a store owner is a better way to understand the numbers.

Here are KNOWN facts provided by me and distributors.

If you are an advanced store you get 18 booster boxes MAXIMUM from something called the play network WIZARDS DIRECT. For the people saying wizards doesn't ship direct to stores is clueless and doesn't know that any store can order 1-3 cases of any set in print weekly and get other items from wizards.

Now on to the distributors. The distributors are in charge of distributing what they get however they want. The stores with the largest pre releases though normally get the largest share 30-50 booster boxes. Beyond that every other store will get less then 20 each. If you are a local store that only runs a FNM and thats it you will probably be getting about 2-5 boxes.

Now if you use several distributors then you can usually multiply what you get easily but with that being said if you don't do your prerelease with that distributor they will normally give you way less stuff because you choose to not do your prerelease purchases with them.

The key for the lgs is to network and connect with others which most shop owners don't do. I myself network with everyone I can and get 1 box here and 3 boxes there and 20 there and the next thing I know I have 150 boxes. You also have to be willing to pay for the boxes. A lot of other store owners I know aren't willing to spend a dime over cost to buy product. Doesn't matter if it would help out their local group or not. They just feel entitled and that they should be given everything they ask for. If you have a great local store owner they will be calling everyone they can and finding those 140-150$ box deals. It costs way more then actual cost but it makes everyone happy at the local store and still profit can be made from that cost.

The supply of half of it comes directly from wizards. If you are an advanced store you get 18 direct from wizards. If you are lower stores you get less. Then on top of that you get anywhere from 30 or less from distributors. If you have a store that barely runs magic events like a sports card store they will get about 1-2 boxes from a distributor and about 3 from wizards. In all of southern cali out of about 100 stores I think about 5 of them are getting 50 or a little more.

"Almost every single box ever printed sells for more than it did at MSRP. MSRP of a 36 pack booster at $4 a booster is $144. SCG current prices:

    Time Spiral: $250
    Planar Chaos: $225
    Future Sight: $500
    Lorwyn: $500
    Eventide: $250
    Shadowmoor: $300
    Morningtide: $300
    Shards of Alara: $250
    Conflux: $250
    Alara Reborn: $225
    Zendikar: $300
    Worldwake: $450
    Rise of the Eldrazi: $300

And on and on and on. Now, could Modern Master be a compete dud of a set, despite having the most sought after reprint the game has ever seen, and a garauntee'd 24 foils per box? Sure, I guess it could, but I'm willing to take that risk

If you wanted to I'm pretty sure you could flip a box of MM for at least $300 after they sell out, which they will do REALLY fast. "

You call it gambling but yet read your first line of a post you made in the modern masters thread. How is it gambling year after year after year of steady returns. Even if you still consider it gambling imagine the returns you would be making on your investment until lets say the magic thing crashes. Its a way better investment then any stock

    That's called "being a distributor for a living". It's a career.

And you could have put all the money on red and gotten a 100% return on about 30 seconds at a roulette table. You speculated and got lucky based on how Zendikar, WWK, and MTG in general has done. That's not an investment, that's gambling, and unless yo are OK gambling with $1700, you shouldn't do it.

No its called a side hobby that takes up little time and is more profitable then what several doctors make a year. My actual occupation is small business owner of retail stores in Cali and offices in Manhattan and LA.

Its not gambling how do you figure its gambling?

How about you spend 6 months researching the prices of every sealed magic booster box and what their intial cost was slightly above a distributors cost and then research how they are valued now and how much they go for on sites like ebay, amazon, scg, etc etc. Every single magic set besides the core sets are worth more then their intial cost. Name any set and I will give you some ideas of numbers on storage and cost to sell etc.

Also to others on this thread. Some people will always consider out of the box stuff or other things gambling etc. Some people are just drones to society and will always be working a career for someone elses company or business. Some people just have no imagination. Hopefully I can provide some insight to this business of saving boxes that might at least show some people here that it can actually be done. I won't give away all of my information for obv reasons of just wanting others to stay away from this business
