Still, even if it's a 1, that still doesn't negate the main argument--that they said they won't in an article concurrent to the development of RtR.
No that doesn't negate it. I just had to point it out because if it is a 3 it is absolute proof of your point.
The evidence we have that they will be in is pretty good as is your evidence. That's why the discussion goes nowhere. At the end I think Mr. Hill's statements against the signets were much weaker than past statements WOTC employees have made against reprinting a card that they go on to print in the very next set.
I mean look, the art on the Wizards site shows it's a 3, not a 1. I don't know what else to say.
You can't say that for certain. It looks like a 1 to me and about just as many people seem to agree as disagree about that. The bottom line is that it is unclear and we can't be sure. When I zoom with just my browser to about 250 percent, the last digit in the number sure does not look like the one that comes before it (which we know to be a 3). It looks more like a 1.
Whereas they've said 'No, signets are not appropriate for today's environment.' Sorry, no signets.
No. They used the art for the signets in MTGO and previewed the same are for rtr. They are not going to use the art on the signets and then the same art on some different promo card.
Someone from WOTC said signets were not a card they would print today. They never said they would not reprint them. Even so, they have said in the past they wouldn't reprint things like lightning bolt, and yet they did.
Signets will be here in RTR but mainly because the art they said will be in rtr has already shown up on two signets.
I guess sets need weaker cards like this. Its just too bad it had to be on a card with this name and cool artwork. And kudos to the person who mentioned the flavor text. I love it too.
I'm curious how any of you would evaluate this card if signets do come back.
I think if it were a sorcery it would be unplayable in constructed. As an instant I am on the edge about this, but if signets do come back it might push me over the edge in favor of Sphinx's Revelation. Whenever I play control and sit back to keep my mana open for counter during their turn, it often feels like a waste when they either do nothing or cast something I don't want to counter. Its so hard for me to resist instant draw like this so I can put that otherwise unspent mana to use. If signets do return I think I will at least test this card out.
Sometimes I think they oversimplify the game. Where's the flavour? Mikaeus Black was synergetic with non human creatures, that made sense. Here it's a black overlord just pumping up all your creatures even if they're righteous Paladins or so.
They cant be the righteous if they are already fighting on the same team and along side a powerful dark Vampire.
Still I don't think that price of this will skyrocket nor do I see this as a chase-rare. I think that it's price will be a bit higher than O-rings (obviously) but not that much.
I don't think it will be a chase rare, but it will definitely be a lot higher in price than O-ring. O-ring is an uncommon and you can order them everywhere for about .25 cents a piece.
So what your saying is your happy with basically a four mana enchantment that stops a cravecrawler from attacking all while trigger blood artist, brimstone volley, and geralf's messenger?
If you let them keep all those cards out you are in trouble anyway. I don't think anyone is assuming you will run 4x of the demon and 56 lands. If you are looking for a card that answers all those, then the demon is not that card.
Rather, in the situation you described I would hope to do something like mutilate leaving only the demon on the board (and maybe geralf, but black can usually deal with him) which puts you in a good spot.. Next turn either drop down a second Demon or some other creature or further removal for geralfs and so on. That is just one example, as we all know, the game does not exist in a vacuum.
Probably. A 1/3 flier would suck dick, but I guess that doesn't mean they wont print it.
What do you think they should have added to it to make it better while at the same not not making it unprintable?
I don't see it. That seems to be happening a lot on here lately.
You are significantly overstating your case.
No that doesn't negate it. I just had to point it out because if it is a 3 it is absolute proof of your point.

Pithing Needle will be very valuable to have at least two of in sideboard. And on top of it all, it also shuts down planes walkers.
