Ask how your group does Wish cards. If its "go grab a card from your binder" your in buisness.
get Eye of the Storm out and do a wish card, really doesn't matter which, but youll need 2.. Find some way to storm like 50 cards with 2 wishes on the eye. Cards like Memory Plunder go a long way in helping this. Eventually you can mass your deck up to the point you have 200 cards, from pulling them outside of the game. It's really difficult, REALLY convoluted, but it can work, depending on group rulings.
If you use a 10card wish board, nope. no chance. Opalescence and turn sideways works for battle of wits.
MBT offers late game free counterspelling. Getting 3 storm is really easy late game and when someone is going off, you'll be able to exile their threats for free.
MBT stops storm flat. The only other counterspell I can think of that effectively does so is Flusterstorm.
if Maelstrom Wanderer is a thing, you can exile 2/3 of the spells cast. if the first cascade is Not a big deal, once the second casts you can MBT it and the wanderer himself.
TS has a lot of lolzy plays you can do with it for your own benefit, or just deny a player a turn and spell. It acts as a Dissipate that stops them blank as well. It has the downside of exiling itself, but hey, what do you do. Ever wanted to Yawgmoth's Will for the rest of the game? you can, just enjoy your permanent Leyline of the Void on yourself.
TS is far better at just flat denying someone. If the game has boiled down to 1v1, it reads "Dissipate, Time Walk".
TS can be used as a Stifle in emergencies, though of course I don't reccomend leaving 6mana up to do just that.
For the record, Notion Thief is a 3/1 and cannot be killed by Dimir charm.
But you're absolutely right. It's a solid pick all around. If you're tight on slots and trying to get a modular card to fit the bill, this might be right for you. If you have more slots, running Codex Shredder + Hero's Downfall + Counterspell is probably better.
Oversold Cemetary is a value engine that is often overlooked. In the right deck, you can churn value for free every turn earning sick card advantage. But this raises the question, how many creatures should be ran for OC to be useful? Obviously factors such as self mill, looting, global mill, entomb effects, and other things should be considered into it, but whats a solid base #?
I'm thinking about using it or Phyrexian Reclamation and am leaning towards OC for being free, and being 2CMC fits in my Shred Memory package. I mill myself a lot.
Experiment Kraj is going to be my next durdle-combo no-infinite deck. Wrexial has a large handful of card combos that do silly things without going infinite too.
My LGS rules are: You can do one free FULL normal mulligan. After that, you partial paris down.
My friends group rules: One free Full or Paris then you can full or paris down from there, but after your first mull either way, you're going down.
Milling yourself out is ever a concern when the best mill card, Mesmeric Orb, hits you as well. I personally have chosen to not have any easy ways out from this for flavor reasons, but either Eldrazi titan, Elixir of Immortality, and Time Spiral effects can all save you. Psychic Spiral is my personal favorite for staying on flavor.
Learning the mechanics behind the Orb take time. You rarely want to drop it early, as it'll be blown up and people will move on without caring. Dreamborn gets blasted the moment it hits the table. even just passing, the person to your left milled 4-10 cards. After that it just multiplys. The same is not true with mesmeric orb. T2 orb means your getting 2 cards tops an opponent, which isn't even true because depending on your meta you might not have tons of early drops. Dropping it T10 means you'll get immediate value and it's presence is a red flag to opponents. Rather than try to just use it like a political Stasis however, I tend to play normally and worry about the mill later. You'll get farther like this much like you'll get farther by getting advantage from suicide black cards, and worry about your health later. I don't know how many games now I've scrambled with 20 cards left in library to secure that Volrath's Stronghold and Academy Ruins were out, as they're my only out my inevitable fate. Same goes for finding Whip of Erebos if my bar drops too low. I've been trying to find room for Sangromancer but just havent found the room yet.
On a different note, I piloted Wrexial on cockatrice for the first time yesterday! I'm pretty proud to announce that I tied for first. Here's a report of some highlights of the game, and the budgetless card changes I made.
Starting the game off early, I was screwed for black mana. Exotic Orchard isn't nearly as good online as it is IRL since UB isn't the most played. (apparently G and W is?) It only tapped for blue, leaving me without a black source. I dropped Mana Crypt and land T2 and Flipped Fact or Fiction at EoT. He gave me a stack of 5-0 and we moved on.
Fastforward a few turns. Dropped Mesmeric Orb. This would continue to sit there the entire game. I dropped my hand onto field, then cast Windfall, upsetting a few players. Still the only one getting swung at was GAAIV, by Sigardatron. Next turn I followed up with Jace, Memory Adept and Dark Confidant and milled Sigarda for 1 to draw a card, trying to get a black source, or at least a land. It was Volrath's Stronghold. The Next turn, bricked on bob with Nemesis of Reason, then a land. Strapped Sword of Body and Mind on bob and swung at sigarda, doing everything I can to turbo mill him. GAAIV was at 15 commander damage now, and once he was dead I was sure he'd be coming at me. SoBaM got Krosan Griped, and bob got in for 2. Hit Sigarda for 10 cards with jace.
Next turn, GAAIV now dead, I Academy Ruins'ed out SoBaM, dropped Magus of the Jar, strapped up BoB and connected this time. Jaced' for 0. beacon of Unrest on Memory Jar, cracked it. Slammed Deserted Temple, further securing my imminent insanity. Copy Artifact on Orb. Sigarda has 17 cards in library, and 8 tapped permanents, so he had 1 card left at upkeep. Before his turn, Vorel went and played Progenitor Mimic on Magus. Drew it. Accepting his death, he swung in for 7 damage on me, then dropped a cantripping enchant, killing himself.
Him gone, I gunned his cards down as hard as I could, but didn't quite get there. He milled down to just a few cards from orb, I have 18 cards left and 12 tapped permanents, but I wasn't too worried because of Stronghold and Ruins, along with temple support, but no matter what shenanagins I did, he simply Magus of the Jared in response, tieing the game.
So overall, I'm pleased with my decks performance in a metaless, budgetless environment. The deck performed well and would have won the game had he not copied my Magus a few times. It's evident for my online version I'll need to swap a few things like Exotic Orchard, and look into some higher budget cards that make no sense to not use online, such as Imperial Seal, but overall solid.I look forward to more games online as playesting opportunities.
Blood Moon sees play in my group. I rock 7 basics in Wrexial, and it's barely enough to keep 1 mana of a color, not both. I do my best to fetch basics of duals in matchups known to run it, but it only helps but so much. I also try to keep my Swamp count a little high so coffers isn't an instant dead draw every time. even breaking even helps. Then again, it's a 2c landbase so i have a bit more wiggleroom
Od as it my seem, I'd advise against traumatize. All it does is make and enemy and it actually gets worse as the game goes on. The only single target mill spell worth running in my opinion is Tunnel vision.
I want to try it in my wrexial deck as a way to both further manipulate my opponents libraries and mill (sorta) at the same time. I can see it being good but I keep being afraid it doesn't do enough. I needs buckle down and just try it, rather than speculate about it for years. If you copied it it could get real rude real fast.
True, I forgot about nonbasic MLD n stuff. I'd say 2 of each is a solid number for 5c otherwise.
Asuza wants around 45 to 50 i'd say, possibly more. G is obviously the most basic hungry for mono.
Black wants a high denisty, but you've got so much draw and Urborg to cover you with tutor support that somewhere around 25 seems solid
White wants about 25+ for Emeria, the Sky Ruin at lesat
Red wants about 25 for Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
I'm not sure of cards that are island hungry... but Scrying Sheets and other snow-related cards are pretty awesome in U. high Tide and back to basics are pretty lolzy too.

It's a pretty good letter, if you ask me.

Phyrexian Arena -> Dark Confidant
Ancient Tomb -> Mana Crypt
Island -> Polluted Delta
Darkslick Shores -> Bloodstained Mire
Sepulchral Primordial -> Sword of Light and Shadow*
Swamp -> Minamo, School at Waters Edge*
*'d changes are one's I'm testing IRL also.
