Hi all, I'm looking for suggestions for my new Gahiji, Honored One Knights deck. I am building this deck to be mid-range in terms of competitiveness, but very on-theme. I like the Naya colors because they do not use blue or black, which are two of the most played colors in my playgroup, but do offer a variety of options. I did not choose Marath because I feel he is the best but also the most threatening Naya commander, and I think Gahiji is more likely to fly under the radar, and has more interesting political potential.
To narrow my choices down and develop a theme, I have decided on Knight (and some Soldier) tribal. The idea meshes well with Gahiji's title of "Honored One." He is a leader of honorable Knights and Soldiers, and perhaps serves as a kind of mount or battering ram as they charge into war. I have already decided to include some token generating cards like Assemble the Legion, and Knight-Captain of Eos, but I do not want willy-nilly tokens that do not fit with the theme. That means no Goblin tokens, and no Elemental tokens. I might be wiling to accept a few Warriors, Clerics, and Monks, however.
I am most interested in the non-creature inclusions, because it is harder to do a search for those cards and find ones that fit with the theme of an "Honorable" army. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I was thinking of something more like Keranos, God of Storms -- it doesn't flag you right away as having one strategy or another but provides some kind of synergy or card advantage. I feel like Tasigur might be a good option as well since his ability is so open-ended.
I am thinking about what my next general might be and wanted to focus on the political side of the game. What generals do NOT make you get your guard up immediately, especially if there is a more threatening general at the same table (Riku, Sharuum, Azami, Zur, etc.)? Not necessarily group hug generals either, as those can draw hate too. May or may not be a vanilla general from Legends, but hopefully something a little more useful than those guys.
With mono-Red I don't feel bad about running the color's most powerful card to win. It's what Eron would do. With mono-Blue, I try to be more creative and only use vulnerable, on-board artifacts that take several turns to be effective.
I don't have a problem with Mindslaver when used against me, and it is certainly fun to cast against others. However I did switch it out of my MUC deck in favor of Sphinx-Bone Wand because nobody gets to complain about losing to a 7 cost artifact that does nothing the turn it comes into play, sits on the board where it can be easily destroyed, and only builds up to a lethal level of power over several turns. People generally don't hate losing to the wand the way they hate losing to the 'slaver, and I would rather my opponents have a good time than win every game.
That's my best guess given the current storyline. I predict our next encounter with the Eldrazi will take place on a previously established plane, after the Eldrazi have utterly destroyed Zendikar. Ok by me since Zendikar has the least flavor (in my opinion) of the last 5-6 blocks, aside from the Eldrazi. Agree/Disagree?
Thanks, I think I will go with Purphoros. I am a little leery of going all-in with the token strategy so I may look at ways to use him as a Voltron general as well.
Just wanted people's input on the best deck to abuse this gem. It pulls in a couple directions - buffing smaller dudes and mana accel. I currently run it with Gauntlet of Power for two-fisted goodness in my Eron the Relentless but am not sure that deck is taking full advantage of it's potential. Any other suggested generals, mono-Red or otherwise appreciated!
You should run Obstinate Familiar. It will randomly prevent you from losing to Nekusar players or getting stroked out. You can also just win by skipping draws until the other person decks themselves if you have some sort of protection like Solitary Confinement running .
I feel like Athreos just has enough combo potential to make me worried, but otherwise appreciate the feedback. Leaning toward Keranos because he doesn't seem too threatening and doesn't require a build-around-me approach.

I really, really like this idea. Never heard anyone talk about him since the precons came out and his ability is useful without being threatening.
Eron the Relentless: Insurrection, occasionally a multi-copied Price of Progress.
