Longtime Bx control player- love the primer! I’ve been running Mardu Nahiri control over the past year & want to try Orzhov out. What are people’s thoughts on Secure the Wastes or Liliana, the Last Hope? I see some lists running 0-2 LotV & was curious why no Liliana love?
Bump this discussion again as I'm sad there's no game day to take my brews to. Total WotC screw up. Now you wait until the end of the set cycle when everyone can netdeck the most tested stuff and get 'tokens' from the next set. Woo ooo ew yuck.
Totally lame marketing moves by card people upgraded to marketing for no reason at all.
I have kids, weekend life, FNM is the time a couple times a month I can play so I've never gotten the special booster. Totally lame trying to push around how and when people play.
Totally agree & hope this experiment falls short. Fnm & the showdown day shouldn't be separate days. My store had its first Monday night showdown last night & 6 of us showed, 4 being brand new players. Why those new players weren't at fnm I don't know, but it didn't feel great playing them knowing they were new & this was marketed as a competitive event.
Only thing I like about the game day store championship change is playing for cards/playmat/deck boxes? from the next set.
I started Magic around Alara and Liliana has been my favorite neo-character since the beginning. I collect every card she's depicted, quoted, or referred to on including the blacked out versions.
Back in the day neo planeswalkers didnt have much background. What drew me to her was the dark sorceress (other than being black aligned) was her story. The lorwyn 5 originally had very bland beginnings. Chandra, Garruk, and Ajani all sparked after losing a loved-one and Jace didnt remember his past. The 4 pacts she made, trading her soul for beauty/power, and then deciding to reneg was so compelling to me.
So all that being said, there are times I still love her story: her tragedy with her brother, the Raven Man, her and Garruk, that story on Ravnica with Jace, but too often Lili is just a caricature and way too shallow for a hundreds year old planeswalker.
I just want the writers to continue expand on her and make her a more dynamic character and not just eye candy for the predominantly male audience. I often find myself utilizing head canon to make her story better.
So, thoughts on Lili? Besides her assests and corset is she compelling to you? Or what are your thoughts on how WOTC handles your favorite walker?
