I'm 31 and still love to play, I'm lucky that most of the local Magic scene is 20-30+ don't have to deal with to many annoying kids :p

When you go to your FLGS on Friday, and they tell you that there was a "shortage" and they can't sell you any fat pack, just go to your local big box store, and there they will be.

There is no 'shortage', just higher demand and greed this time around. These shop owners are envisioning these full art lands going for $1-2 a pop a few years from now.

DBT is great if you are just getting back into Standard, or just starting the game. If you don't fall under either of those categories, you're not going to find much in there to interest you.

This is untrue and simply LGS owners trying to create a false scarcity because of the "value" of the landpacks. Our local LGS is getting plenty in stock and confirmed there aren't any "shortages", the demand is just higher than normal because of people hoping to 'invest' in the full art land packs.

If your LGS claims to not have enough, just go to Walmart/Target/Shopko, they will be in stock for MRSP. There is no shortage, just greed.

They take the slot of a foil mythic in the cases.

That being said, over the weekend (so far) out local store has pulled 6 expeditions between the first 2 pre-release events. Maybe they aren't quite as rare as we thought? Or maybe they purposefully have a high chance of being pulled from the pre-release packs?

So after 10 years of playing MTG, it finally happened at this pre-release. I faced an opponent who attempted to win via biological warfare.

I'd heard stories, but never had I faced one such opponent before.

    > pushing 350lbs in his mid 40s, balding, greasy remnants of hair slicked back on his pale scalp, unattended acne all over his nose and forehead, horrid white little zits all come to a head.
    > yellowing hane's T-Shirt, complete with holes and pit stains
    > horrid odor of sweat and stale piss
    > Sweatpants on, pulled up towards what I assume was a belly button, yellowing T-Shirt tucked in, the full glory of the outline his food pouch visible.
    > Would not stop farting/Unleashing the vapors of Satan during the match
    > Attempting to eat a subway....sandwich (this thing was almost entirely cheese with onions and some unidentifiable meat, no healthy veggies in sight) in between turns.
    > Perpetually bored and rude, anytime I clarified what I was doing he'd respond with "yup, that's how things are supposed to work, don't care", or if I'd ask something he'd just sigh and flick the card at me to read.

I honestly thought these people were legends. I thought they were just society's cruel characterization of how they imagine nerdy people to be, a mean stereotype created out of a wild imagination.

But no, here he was, in the wild, in the flesh and blood!

And now I must ask you, to please never be this man. Take a shower, wear something decent, be kind, take a beano to help with the farts, don't eat during the match.

Anyone else encounter these mythical creatures in the wild over the weekend? Maybe the occurrence of them is lower in the Midwest, hence why I'd never dealt with them before...
On that note...how DO you deal with them? I just tried to get through the game as fast as I could, didn't say anything to embarrass him, but was kinda surprised the owner let him in the event in that condition, I could see alot of looks of revulsion coming from my fellow gamers, especially felt bad for the poor girl he got paired up against later. He was literally staring at her chest the whole time, she looked mortified...

Is this something one should mention to the store owner? Is bad hygiene considered bad sportsmanship? Is it just "one of those things" that you just grin and bear?

(PS. Other than that, what a great event!)

Bad hygiene. I had an opponent once who smelled awful, I swear he'd defecated his pants before the match, on top of that he kept farting the entire match, it was awful. I was too polite to say anything to the judge, but I really think someone like that needs to be asked to leave. The smell was gag-inducing (and I have a strong stomach).

I've seen him subsequent times since then, each time he has this miasma of gross stench hovering about him. I know other players have complained about this, but really what can we do? The owner doesn't seem to want to do anything as he's a paying customer, but people absolutely dread the possibility of having to play against him. I'll actually just leave if I see he's there, rather than have to play against him.

I know, I know, the cliche that gamers can be a dirty bunch sometimes....but this fellow takes that above and beyond.

Thank you for clearing that up, that upped the card's fun value to me, immensely.

Please don't laugh at me, but I don't understand something(I'm still learning things). If the creature only has 2 toughness, even if some big fatty hits it, wont it only create 2 token? Or, is the excess damage that exceeds the toughness still considered as damage dealt for the purpose of this card's trigger?

Thank you all for the suggestions and information.

I was not aware that MTGO gave out random player rewards, that's probably what's going on.
I'm unsure of how to download the v3 client. When I decided to get back into MTGO the only option I saw was for this beta client (Isn't V3 getting shut off soon?).

I'll try playing a game later on tonight with a friend and see how the cards appear to them.

    Thank you!

I hadn't logged into my MTGO account in several months. Logged in tonight and saw several cards changed from their normal sets to the promo versions of them. I know I never owned any promo version of cards previously so I'm confused as to how they would have changed...is this possibly a bug with the client? I'm currently on Beta 3.4.82.415

Cards that changed to their promo variants:
All my swamps into extended art versions (they look similar to the Zendikar swamps)
    1 x Firemane Avenger
    1 x Bloodcrazed Neonate
    1 x Tormented Soul
    1 x Shock
    1 x Zameck Guildmage

They have all turned into extended art foils.

It's cool to have some extended art promos, just curious as to how this might have happened and if it's happened to anyone else.

    Thank you!
