Yawgmoth's Will (Yawgmoth's Win).... basically almost 2B to win the game is pretty powerful

Library of Alexandria (always the stepchild... of Power 10)

Sol Ring/Mana Crypt - Would be higher than a mox (IMO) if it wasn't for Revised/Reprints

Demonic tutor - Best tutor of all time tho Vampiric is better with Miracles.. go figure?

Tinker - should replace Timetwister as the 2U

Strip Mine - Best Non-basic land next to Tolarian that was already mentioned.

Anyone think A sword of X and Y is a good SB option... (mostly likely W&P or F&F) or does Batterskull > All?

I wish they would fire whoever chooses the feature matches. I feel like each week for the Legacy Open they pick one deck, only show that on camera for the swiss and then, when top 8 hits and you see only one person playing the deck of the week, they show that deck until it gets knocked out. It makes me want to just not even bother with the stream anymore.

It's their strategy to sell cards... like if they just buylisted a load of stuff for Stoneblade (Aka raising prices to $35) they will feature that deck the whole time and hope it wins so people want to build it. If they just bought 50 S&T from a GP, you bet they will feature sneak and show... i mean I can't blame them it's smart business... there's a reason why Nike Pays Lebron to wear certain things they wanna sell...

let's have some faith... esp that Gerry Thompson is working at wizards. He did say at one point he "dares WotC to unban visions"...

I think 1/2 the people here are more worried about specs/own cards losing value or gaining value than the health of the Modern Format.

Are you sure you mean Prescient Chimera? I don't think it's the card you mean, it doesn't do anything.

The problem with the cat is that you still give decks a turn to respond to it. They can not only Lili but Path, Abrupt Decay, or even Terminate it. For Jund, they have a TON of answers now, and other decks in general have ways to kill it since you can Path it.

I agree the card is tons of value, but for this deck, it won't work out. You play Geist because you can bank on it. Since it's so hard to remove, your deck can play the few answers that stop Geist answers. Creatures? Bolt, Helix, Path. Spells? Mana Leak, Spell Snare, Remand, Cryptic Command. You can just actually play Geist and expect him to live reasonably long. Lili on 3 is one of the few answers to him that actually immediately remove him. Supreme Verdict is like the only other one that you can't answer.

If you gum up the 3-drop slot you should cut Angel. It's not as good anymore, especially since you're not banking 100% on Geist anymore. If your deck is like Snap, Geist, Cat, Clique, you don't really have room for Angels. I still think you want around 20-24 spells so you just won't have room.

Thanks for the tips, really appreciate the help. I been playing the GP Prague version w/o thundermaws.. Restoration Angel has been pretty good as a 2x of... do you not like them?

Yeah see with Geist they can almost liliana any turn.. this 3/4 if he gets in 1 attack or a block, it kind of defeats liliana.

I think Maybe in the place of 4 geists... play 3 Cats? and up Resto/Cliques? The only thing is that this card is brutal vs tempo such as boomerang effects. But excited to try .... at least with Proxies.

Any thoughts about this guy? I know people are running Blade Splicers on MTGO instead of Geist. This guy seems better since it dodges most red removal.

He also fends off 3/2 Finks and other creatures pretty well.

Also because he's a legend and WW we will be more heavy white with Eiganjo Castle which essentially gives him 6 toughness which dodges "most" goyfs since they are usually 5/6s... haven't seen TOO many 6/7s in Modern.

  • posted a message on Speculators and Counterfeits
Let's try to stay on topic so this doesn't get closed...

What does everyone think about speculators as we see at GP:Prague...

Fist of Suns is currently $10 on TCG. Craterhoof is $11. Genesis Wave is about $6. I bet after the modern pro tour it will be even worse.

Basically if any deck does well... or has an interesting card everything gets bought out. They basically have a bankroll just to buy and hold cards which screws us ,the players, who buy 2-4 copies to PLAY with.

I am pretty sure all those fists were bought out by Speculators trying to stick players with the middle finger... yet AGAIN. They are making this game more expensive... any playable rare that in the good old days we could pick up for $1-2 will be $5-6... people say "rares are cheaper" but I feel that this is a really sad thing and I hope Magic goes the way of Yugioh ... (which pains me) that Wotc reprints so much stuff that there is no point in speculating because the Market can change overnight that it is not worth the risk...

Do not support Mtgfinance sites/people .... especially ones you pay for....

For the past couple pages, people are literally saying:

'These fake cards are good, because they will drive Hasbro out of business and I can get cards cheap then!'

If there were no sanctioned magic, no one would ****ing play it. You're gonna go play EDH at your LGS? What LGS? There is no LGS, because people stopped going to them because magic is done.

How many people play that LoTR game? What about Vampyre:The Masquerade/Jihad, what about WoW TCG?

Not many people playing them, huh? Tournament support dried up.

If you want to play a cheap card game, my advice to you, is to purchase Ascension.

If you want to play magic and can't afford a Goyf, learn how to make better use of your cards and trade for a Goyf.

If you are only playing at a kitchen table, what does a card's price matter? Write Goblin Guide on an island a draw a dude getting off a boat with a sword, and then later on, use it as an island and confuse people.

Fist of Suns was played in a deck at the Grand Prix today... was a $2 card.. now it is sold out everywhere.. I am pretty sure it is not PLAYERS eager buying this card out to play that deck but rather speculators (aka SCUM) who buy at $2 and try to flip for $7-8 to make a $5 profit off the players.

PS, <Tybalt, you are a plank> to think you can just trade for a Goyf just like that... people these days think everyone is a shark and

    1.) Won't trade down
    2.) Won't trade modern/legacy for standard
3.) Won't trade unless they are getting "value"... aka ripping you off

Hence, I hope these fakes become better and get printed up the wazoo.. so speculators can get hosed big time. As a semi 'collector' I can assure you I have no more than 4 copies of one card and only a few 5 because I bought a playset and 1 for EDH. Collectors are much better than speculators ... hoarding 4-5 out of circulation is better than hoarding 300 to "sit on".

Don't attack people personally by calling them names. Infraction issued. -Xen

I absolutely agree. Watching the people FREAK OUT when someone buys all the copies of some random card from TGCplayer is getting 100% tiresome. We didn't have this kind of behavior on such a large scale as we do now. It's become less about the game itself, and more about making a fast buck. People squibbling over such weak margins "OMG IT JUMPED 200% = $1.50" is really, really sad and makes me want to take a very long break.

I Know how you feel.. it's absurd someone buys 300 copies of a card ... if you want to make a quick buck go look at penny stocks and you can buy all you want. This is a game that's meant for players... I hope this really teaches them a lesson... speculating is getting out of hand. I hope all those non-foil cards you are sitting on become worthless. I hope you can't sell your cards now because people are scared to buy and then wizards reprints all your fetchlands to battle counterfeiters... i say to you the same to counterfeiters... LEAVE OUR GAME alone

Ie. a Table EDH player won't care about a DQ at their LGS by using a fake Slyvan Primordial ...

Also twitter/forums is full of these people OH I MADE 50% ... my playset went up from 1 to 1.50... great you made $2 before fees/shipping.

The fact the there are a bunch of emails circulating from the counterfeiters in response to inquiries stating "company was stopped the police" and etc. is extremely alarming. Why? Because I don't even remotely believe for a second that these companies would go out of there way to alert would be customers of such a fact, it's nonsensical. The most logical line in such a situation would be to simply not respond. Instead, they are going out of there way to make it seem as if their operations have ceased. I wouldn't be surprised if they now chose to distribute their fakes more discretely.

Honestly, I truly believe this entire exercise was counter productive. Judging by the responses on reddit and the fact that the player base who initially stands to lose the most is in the minority (Legacy) and I think all of these counterfeiters were/are still being flooded with orders. I think we gave the counterfeiters a heads up as to just how lucrative their operations could be. Ever heard of the term "self-fulfilling prophecy"?

I believe the only reason he told me the truth is because I called and spoke to him in only chinese and said that I am looking to buy a large amount. In china there is no stopping of operations if there is money to be made ... I'll tell you that much. Also this company wasn't in the business of printing fake CCG but rather just printing in general but this has become lucrative enough for them that there is no way this is going to stop. If Hasbro shuts one down another will pop up...

It sucks but this is the world WOTC/SCG created for us... if all playable cards remain around 35-40 max... I doubt there would be much profit in trying to print perfect fakes... Btw.. they did inform me that all samples were out of stock and that they are so backed up that no samples will be printed until further notice.

One last note... I also blame this on Speculators driving up prices... they now become a small group of hoarders that act as the middle-man... basically adding a "fee" to every card we get I hope all your target cards are sitting nice in a box and thousands of fakes flood the market... I have 15k of cards but not for than 4-5x of a copy... if you want to speculate go study the stock market.

First I just want to say, if i get banned then it is what it is but I want to talk freely ...

First Magic is a blip on the counterfeit business radar in China. Think about other big companies such as Nike, Reebok, Designer handbag/clothes that try to fight this to no avail (and yet 90% of their factories are IN China.

I know some people in the counterfeit business overseas and they said some companies either 1. pay a premium to have the factory elsewhere or 2. Only finish 50% of the product in China and have the other 50% finished in England, France, Spain to save some costs without exposing all the methods to Chinese production lines. So it is not going to stop ... it will cost Hasbro MUCH more to shut down Chinese factories that produce 99% of their inventory to fight a uncontrollable criminals that want to produce knock-offs... Nike I'm sure would have done this ...

Now, Frankly... I have about 15k of legacy/modern/EDH cards and I think it's a good thing this happened. I Agree with the poster before who said Magic is about a game of skill and fun and not who has the deepest pockets/no other life expenses. I been playing for 20 years and loved it when you could get a competitive extended (dual lands incl.) or standard deck for about 100-150, 200 MAX. That is a JOKE now... because of SCG that a FUN Legacy deck costs $2000 (yes you can play burn... another argument please?) which is essentially a PS4 and a XboxOne and a 60" tv.

It sucks that legacy/modern to me are the most fun formats and I actually applaud SCG for their support but the business model is not sustainable for those prices.

FYI, I contacted the supplier in China and spoke to him in Chinese so there was no confusion. He was very friendly (maybe cuz i spoke his native language) He told me they were so backordered that the company had never saw orders of this magnitude ever for any product. He said they are running printing machines 24 hours a day and hired more help for shipping and are still backlogged for all the orders. I asked him about if they can change the font on a 2nd run but he said he could not disclose any further information unless I placed a large enough order. (it's all about the money) So basically everyone here peaches "don't buy!!" ... at the end of the day it's do what's best for you...

When a new Xbox One costs $500 and PS4 Costs $400 and a 55 Inch TV is $750 ... (which combined is less than ONE tier 1 non-budget legacy deck) it really says something about the format and Opportunity cost...

Same goes with Modern... PS4 + 42-47 inch tv is only about $700. Wizards need to make the game more accessible.

(I'm thinking tournament fees and new game cost are a wash)
