We've met up once or twice for studying, outside of seeing each other in class every day.

Are you good or bad at reading people / signals from women? Its fine if you're bad, most guys are, just something that would be good to know giving advice going forward. If she wasn't treating this like a date or doing obvious cues, she is probably either not interested in you that way, or clueless. Either way, assuming you aren't good at picking up on those things, I would suggest just being honest. Just tell her you had fun on Friday, and you'd like to take her out for a second date, in no uncertain terms. You should get an actual answer that way.
Also, very important to know, how exactly did the date end? She went home, we know, but what happenned between you as you parted ways?

I'm going to assume I'm terrible at it, considering the extent of my past relationship experience (almost none) and the fact that I'm fairly introverted/not much of a social person. As far as I could tell, though, there were really no blindingly obvious "make a move" cues. There wasn't any contact at the end of the date, if that's what you meant. We walked out of the restaurant, said good bye, and left.

Update:I don't think that was a date. We met up, ate dinner, and... She went home. As far as I could tell, she thought it was just having dinner, nothing more. A little disappointing, but whatever. Should I have been clearer asking her out? I pretty much said "would you like to have dinner on Friday", but I guess that could be taken as something other than an actual date.

So I asked this girl to dinner on Friday. Go me? Still lost, but a little less so. I didn't really bring any clothes beyond jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts, and I feel like that's not the right thing to wear... but I don't know what else or where to get it. Also have no idea what I'm supposed to do after dinner either. Meh.

Coming back this thread - what are good choices for somewhere to ask her to? I have no car so I can't really get anywhere that's not walking. I've only lived here for a month so I don't really know what there is in the area. I've also never been on a date, so I don't even know what I'm looking for...

This is the same advice I'd give as well. Getting to know the girl in question is the best way I've found to approach dating, rather than trying to ask her out "cold" (so-to-speak). Talk to her about her family, her interests, her aspirations, etc, like Dechs said if there's a connection the rest will come naturally.

See, I agree with you, but that's what I've done every time I've been in a similar situation and it's never worked out.

  • posted a message on what are some of your clutch moments?
Not clutch persay, but I was playing against Jund back in Alara-Zendikar T2. I was running a URW Runeflare Trap deck, using Font of Mythos and Howling Mine, Time Warp, Twincast, and a ton of fogs. The plan basically was make my opponent draw a ton of cards, fog him when he tried to attack, and eventually Twincast 2 or 3 Runeflare Traps for the game. My opponent was someone I knew well at my shop, so he knew what I was going on with my deck. Game 2 he sideboards in Cranial Extraction, and promptly draws it naming Runeflare. Naturally I think I'm ****ed, but I figure I might as well keep going. A lot of turns, a Jace ultimate (original Jace), and all the fogs in my deck later, I successfully milled him.

Anyone here who plays and goes to Ohio State University? I've been to Comic Town a few times, but the buses stop running by round 3 or so of an FNM, and that's a bit of an issue.

Yay, 600 dollar decks. I really like the look of this though. What exactly about it makes control an easy matchup?

So I'm a freshman in college, and I really have no experience with relationships. I dated a girl for about 3 weeks during junior year, and that ended very abruptly (still not entirely sure what happened). I had kind of a relationship with a girl this summer - we were both touring with different groups, so we met at a show in July, texted until August, and then spent 2 days together at the end of the summer. We live 6 hours away and I have no transportation available, so it kind of fell apart once we each got home. The last one wasn't really a relationship, but it's as close as I've had in a while.

The common thread, however, was that both of these were set up by friends. It was definitely mutual between us, but friends introduced us and friends kind of... led the way to make anything happen. Which sucks now that I'm in college, 2500 miles away from everyone I know. Having friends set me up doesn't quite work any more.

There's a girl in my Japanese class I'm interested. She's cute, she's funny, and I have absolutely no idea what to do. Talking to her isn't hard, but I've never had to do something remotely like asking someone out. Before everyone says it - yes, I am WILDLY overthinking this. But I am very much an analytical person, and **** like this freaks me out. What do I say? Do I get her number and text her for a while first? Where do we go? I've never lived here before, I have no idea what there even is to do. This is all the crap that runs through my head every time I think about it. We're only about 3 weeks into the school year so it's not like I've known her for a while, but I'm really tired of being eternally single and even if it's not with this particular girl, I need to get off my ass and stop making my friends set everything up for me.

Shocks, from what I can tell. That's what I'm thinking of buying, at least. At the very worst they're not gonna go down.

Which shocklands would be the best to pick up? I can't afford to pick up a full playset, but I'm thinking about getting 5 or 6 sets. I think Temple Garden and Sacred Foundry are definitely necessary, plus probably Overgrown Tomb and Godless Shrine because BG and BW are two of my favorite combinations to play. Maybe add Stomping Ground and Hallowed Fountain to that? That would give me a good base to build G or W based aggro decks, as well as some control decks with Fountain.

I'm slowly getting back into the game after a long break - quit playing right around Rise of the Eldrazi. I've more or less completely ignored it since then, so I have no idea what cards are out there now. I recently moved and the city I'm in now has a couple different stores close by, so I'm thinking of getting back into the game. I'm planning on joining there draft FNM's for the next few weeks, and getting back into standard once rotation hits.

Are there any cards I should start looking for deals on right now? Obviously there's no way of knowing what decks will be good, but I'm sure there are certain cards that will be good regardless. I generally lean towards midrange decks. I don't like playing straight control, but I don't like playing Rx Aggro either. My favorite decks are ones that are aggressive but still provide interesting interactions and plays I can make, so any cards that would generally fit into archetypes like that are what I'm looking for.

I quit playing right around Rise of the Eldrazi, for various reasons. I'm going off to college next year, and so I think I might get back into it when I do. I figure I might as well start figuring it out now, so I'm not completely clueless if I start playing seriously. I used to be decent - never went to any PTQ's or anything, but I usually was in competition for prizes at my LGS.

So... What did I miss? Ravnica came back, which is awesome. Shocklands are everywhere, hooray. From what I can tell everything is aggro... which seems about the same as when I quit.

What decks should I play? What cards are big? Pretty much anything you can tell me helps. And note to mods - hopefully this is different enough than the "what deck should I play" thread Wink

I have about one of each class. Jungle I am best with Udyr, though I play a bit of Riven. Support I play Taric. Mid is Ziggs or occasionally Fizz, and top is usually Fiora. I don't really play any AD Carries, but I'm at least moderate at all the other roles (ok, I suck). I came back today after not having played since June and lost 4 games, so I need to figure out how to play again.
