Hm... So if I wanted to run with a deck based around this idea, it would need to be a Grixis deck.

Ah. Should have specified. EDH. Maybe Standard too.

I've been working on a custom deck of mine, and I'm beginning to see a pattern. In addition to fatties and a whole lot of recursion, I have some spell stealing and creature copying.

What are some good cards for taking someone else's stuff?

I took out the I dropped a land, and replaced it with Primeval Titan. Since I had the Ramping Titan, I didn't need Gem of Becoming, so I replaced that with Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger.

I've lost one land and Gem of Becoming, while gaining two mana-ramping fatties with Trample. These seem to have more of a place in this kind of Aggro Deck, especially with the recursion I could use to bring them back for way cheaper.

EDIT: I also took out some Check Lands and replaced them with some Man Lands. My lack of low cost creatures is a bit worrisome.

Thanks guys. I guess it's just like you said: Try it out, and see what works.

As we all know, Commander decks are big, big enough to include just about everything you could want in your deck. But what do you do when there's just one more card you want in there, but can't find anything you wouldn't mind losing?

    Made a few changes.

Got rid of Library of Leng and replaced it with Reliquary Tower. Since this is a recursion deck, I shouldn't have cards that prevent me from putting cards into my graveyard.

I also added Moltensteel Dragon, because why the hell not?

I added Maelstrom Nexus, because this is a penta-color deck, and Cascading is fun.

The last change I want to make (without advice, because I'm sure there will need to be more changes) is finding a place for Intet the Dreamer, as getting free spells is never a bad thing.

Have you thought about running Moltensteel Dragon as a finisher? He makes winning with general damage quite a bit easier in the end game.

You mean like draining my life to near nothing for a final strike? Sounds good to me! I've been looking for more dragons to add anyway.

Alright! My deck has been revised! I've added a bunch of recursion spells and creatures, and all those lands I need. I've also added some Exiling for getting rid of stuff I can't or don't want to use myself, that I also don't want my opponent to have, such as Enchantments and whatnot. I hope Venser helps with that. There's also the obvious combos of constantly exiling Bladewing and Bogardan, for dragon recursion and damage.

I have no problem with getting rid of Venser if I have to. If there's something that would work better with this deck, I'd love to see it. Smile

Also! I just considered something... Would this deck (or at least the deck that this will eventually become) belong to a Timmy, Johnny, Spike, or some combination thereof?

Since you had Kaalia in the original list, why not drop the blue and green and make this a Kaalia deck?

If I'm going with a recursion deck, I need a way to get lots of fatties into my graveyard. Scion seems like the best way to pull that off, in addition to being really useful on his own. Kaalia is great, but I'm not sure how well she'd work as a commander for a deck like this.

Also, since I'll be adding more Lands, could Azusa work now?

And thanks again Atlas, that ought to be really helpful.

Other spells that might be useful in here? It depends, are you still going with the "put dragons or other random efficient fatties in to graveyard then reanimate?"

Pretty much, yeah. I know that Buried Alive works well with The Mimeoplasm, as well as other recursion spells.

White/Black has Unburial Rites and Debtors' Knell. Blue has Plasm, Dimir Doppelganger and Body Double.
The White/Black ones are the best IMO. Unburial Rites = Rise from the Grave on crack.

Nice. Thanks. Any other spells that may not be recursion, but could work with this deck?

And what is "Plasm" exactly? The Mimeoplasm?

Ick. I found one of those combos that would make this unfun to play against. Summon Scion. Next turn, search out Niv-Mizzet, then enchant with (tutored) Curiosity. Tap. Lose a friend. Gain an enemy. Just... ew.

That's completely true. But if you, however, still want to run Scion, it might be a good idea to build your deck (supposing you go for a dragon reanimation theme) on Jund colors (GRB) and splash (and I mean really splash) UW just to run Kaalia, Plasm and, of course, Scion.

How do you mean "splash"? And I'd rather have the Blue and White mana do something. I really don't like the idea of having a bunch of Blue and White mana, and nothing to spend it on. Are there any good Blue or White recursion spells?

Kaalia could stay if you're still running a lot of dragons.

Nevermind, I'll keep Kaalia, but get rid of angels and demons.

Conspiracy combos wildly with Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund.

    How so?

Thanks for the vote of confidence Polendino. Wink

At any rate, I'll DEFINITELY be getting rid of Kaalia and her angels and demons to make room for more dragons, and The Mimeoplasm, not to mention all those friggin' Lands I need.

Maybe those cards someone mentioned earlier too, the ones that let me use my opponents spells.

Also, since most of the creatures will be Dragons, I'll drop Conspiracy.

Running five colors is an issue, though - it makes colorfixing and focused strategy building hard - but nothing you can't overcome.

I'd very much like to run a 5 color deck recursion deck, if at all possible. This may be my first deck, but I'm sure it'll be all the more satisfying if (and when) I pull it off.
