Im also going for a reanimator build. My thoughts; increase mb whips to 2 and 1 in sb for aggro, swap blights for drown in sorrows for aggro. Otherwise looks fun, any other ideas etc you have ill try and talk through with you
Just watched BBD playing with necropolis fiend and that card just seems so good with nyx weaver on board. every small creature will die every turn and big creatures can be blocked. 4/5 flying is sweet
I have not worked on my NyxWave deck for a while, so I decided to change it a little. What do you think about this list? (other than Wooded Foothills and Windswept Heath is not legal yet).
The list looks good to me, I think you can get away with cutting the 4th wave for something else like sarkhan, however I remember you being sceptical about its practical value. I cannot wait for the new fetches!! while some may say that deck thinning is a negligible effect, remember we are a combo deck trying to empty our deck onto the board. The less lands we hit will generally mean we are hitting more creatures/ combo pieces.
Played in two a WMCQ's yesterday, 16 player elmins. Placed 3-4 in the first and went out first round in the next (2-2 I suppose). I Didn't bother keeping notes but I faced mazes end (2-0), Jund planeswalkers (2-0), Mono blue (0-2) then esper control (1-2.
Overall it was a fun day and I was glad to give the deck one last hurra. Over the 4 matches I got to do everything the deck supposed to, whipping back obzedat, ghost council, shadowborn demon killing scavenging ooze, ashen rider killing maze's end and xenagos, the reveler to get the win and even getting into a blood baron of vizkopa fight with esper control. While I didn't win the day, each of my matches had onlookers commenting how it was good to see something fun and different.
I think next standard I'll try and make something similar to the block version except with hornet queenand siege rhino.
I really like this deck, even with the two unknown cards hahah. MB Blood baron is probably a meta call and it looks like it paid off. The card is just the beats against mono black variants and burn. Also i think Resolute Archangel is cute, not sure how effective it is tho.
Today I looked at scg and was very very very surprised. Can anyone explain me this?
Khalni Hydra $15.99
Primalcrux $15.99
Travis woo made a new version with 4x of each of these. I dont think its any better than what we have here, his new version is extremely vulnerable to spot removal.
Hello everybody.
Previous report got all 0 posts and feedback (:() but I'll try againYesterday I participated in local LGS modern event. 21 participants, 4 rounds.
Decklist:
Some thoughts on the decklist:
This decklist is very similar to Gnuhouse decklists. I made decision (and I admit it was not good change) to change BTE's over Predator Ooze. I was desperate against Jund match up so browsing my box of possible cards in this deck (isn't this the reason why this deck is so much fun? :D) so my eyes got on Predator Ooze - best blocker with would die only to Liliana. Even though these babies make some explosive plays which I prefer vs decks we have to race (storm, tarmotwin) as I said I wanted something good vs Jund as I find this match up kind of problematic. Upped my Witness and selkie counts to 4. As previous page was discussing Arashi, I added him for some test. Also I put 3 boils as our meta seems to be heavily blue.
Round 1. bye Nice start...
Let's look around how our meta looks. 2 blue moons, 2 faeries, affinity, 2 tokens, pod, merfolks, jund, dega, hatebears, twin, domain, 2 trons, uwr control and midrange, rdw, Bg devotion. My heart is partying about boils and arashi.
1-0.
Round 2. Esper Tokens
Oponents seems new to modern, not very confident.
G1. He wins dice roll, he starts building his army, I have only couple of geists. He have 4 tokens (2 flyers 2 soldiers) + honor of the pure, puts me to 10 but I primal command to gain 7 life and search for something as I recall. As game goes on (actually after 2 turns) he puts me to 1 life, but unfortunately I waved last turn for 7, got prime time who fetched me kessig and it wins me the game. Oh boy 35/2 trample geist hits hard.
G2 he keeps two lander, I mulligan to 6 and keep 5 lander. Too bad he screws on these 2 lands and to appear like scumbag I acidic slime one of his lands and primal lock another. H4h4h4h4h4.
2-0; 2-0.
Round 3. BW tokens
G1 I keep slow hand with 2 green sources geist selkie and bigger cmc, he seizes me, geist out, I dont draw another green source for a while while he grows his army + sorin+ virtue and I concede as I cannot win from that point.
G2 I keep Arashi (oh yeah baby). And I have protection from discard in a way of eternal witness. He turn 3 plays spectral procession, Arashi for 1. I wave, hit garruk , make some 3/3 dudes and just beat down the hell out of him. Oh, wave hits witness, bring back arashi and channel for 2 to kill his 4 2/2 flyers.
G3 without bigger disruption wave and just win with kessig as I recall.
2-1, 3-0
Round 4. Affinity
G1 I start with T2 Polukranos into his T1 steel overseer, eat him t3 and also have garruk on the table, t4 I hit Garruk ultimate and attack with arbor elf, Polukranos with 2 +1/+1 counters and geist, he is at 13 life, he manages to block and has 1 life, next turn inkmoth nexus hits for the win -_-
G2 I put turn 2 damping matrix, he does not expect this and even though he puts me to 2 life with signal pest and flyers I somehow manage to kill him (kessig as I recall).
G3 I have ancient grudge in hand but no red source. He seizes smth out of my hand but not grudge as I dont have the source. Top deck utopia sprawl. I manage to slow hit and grab a huge genesis wave with craterhoof.
2-1, 4-0.
Next time I think I am gonna try Visionaries or bring back BTE's back in the place of oozes. It was kind a stupid of me to pick those just for one reason to block ground forces as the beatdown we are vulnerable is flying attacks.
Deck is fun and strong at the same time, but one of the most beatiful part of this deck is variety. We have TnN, Wave, Primal Lock, elves, Tool Box and boxes of green cards which could fit this deck :]]]
Thank you for the report and well don't on the 4-0. Kinda sad you vs'ed tokens twice but at least you gave us some good testing for it. I'm really interested in the single Arashi, the Sky Asunder, I may have to find one. How did you find Ooze after all that? I've tried visionary and in the non-elves version I don't like it. doesn't contribute to early devotion enough and the body is to small of a speed bump.
I'm thinking of dropping the Boseiju for the time being as I find that blue based control is not played too heavily in my meta. We're more Jund/Pod, which this deck just beats up on.
And, on the foil update, I managed to get a little bit closer this weekend with 4 Nykthos, a Primal Command and Genesis Wave, and 2 Urza's Legacy Plow Unders! Now I'm missing:
3 Primal Command
2 Utopia Sprawl
4 Wistful Selkie
2 Spellskite
1 Ghost Quarter
That's about what I'm running also except I've cut 1x selkie and 1x witness for 2x birds of paradise.
Just on the topic of Polukranos, I run him MB in my version and he's been surprisingly good in a bunch of matchups. He's great vs Affinity since most of their dudes are X/1 or X/2, but I also used him with great success against Hatebears and Pod (taking out their mana dorks)
Yeah I think polo is fine as 1-2. He passes the bolt test vs traditional Jund also. I currently have him as a 1x and he holds the ground really well while adding 2 devotion. Have you updated your list gnuhouse? I'm still following your original mono green wave archetype with mixed success.
If I had access to lotleth troll I'd run your list. Unfortunately I downsized my standard collection a while ago. i think he's really well positioned atm and works well in your deck. he a threat, blocker and discard outlet all in one.
BBD is running a new list (runs to watch video).
I agree with you that it looks threat light. I maintain our best G1 reanimation targets are ashen rider/ sylvan primordial because they WILL exil/destroy your opponents best thing. It could be a dsphere, land (nykthos/mutavault/underworld connection land), big fatty whatever. running some number of these is a must. He made a few interesting choices such as running a 3:3 split between commune and salvage,Endless Obedience over either rescue or aid and Soul of Zendikar's inclusion (which I really don't like). He's running 10 milling spells also which is interesting (12 in you include lotleth). I've never felt I needed more mill running 8 without lotleth and last season far superior junk reanimator only ran 8 so I think that's where id make my first cut.
Endless Obedience is a really interesting choice which needs to be explored more I think. My only issue with it is that it only become better than aid or rescue if you can play it earlier for that first reanimation. having it cost 2-4 cmc late game is fine but your probably ahead by then anyways with some beef on board. In the early game you will generally be playing mana dorks which tap for mana anyway. I could see it working if you had a full spread of lotleth trolls to take advantage of it but otherwise it doesn't seem as good. As he's not running Elspeth anymore I think rescue is better.
what does everyone else think
Soul of zendikar is very meh. Why not just run another Obzedat or polukranos to reliably have an early "big blocker". The difference between a 5/5 and 6/6 is negligible. the difference between 6 cmc and 4-5 is not. Exiling it to make a vanilla 3/3 for 6 mana also sucks.
Apok23: as Firemind stated lotleth is very good against g/w provided you play it smart and use his as a <4/4 blocker until you get your engine going. If your meta is FULL of hexproof back to nature is a thing and beats the snot out of them. Maybe you could go more control with thoughtseizes?
Hmm interesting. Well if you have any more ideas post them here and ill give you my feedback. Im happy to help you test etc. Lets see if we can reanimate this forumn (im so sorry about the pun).
You wouldn't happen to have BBD's list would you?

hornet queen, ashen rider, siege rhino, stormtide leviathan, soul cycle, scuttling doom engine. Probably more but that's a few options. Currently I'm basing my list off the GB midrange theros block deck.
just saw a reanimator deck came 2nd in a WMCQ in the Philippines.
4 Temple Garden
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Temple of Malady
4 Temple of Plenty
2 Caves of Koilos
2 Llanowar Wastes
4 Courser of Kruphix
4 Satyr Wayfinder
4 Sylvan Caryatid
4 Elvish Mystic
3 Blood Baron of Vizkopa
3 Angel of Serenity
2 Sylvan Primordial
4 Grisly Salvage
2 Whip of Erebos
2 Vraska the Unseen
2 Unknown Card
1 Ajani, Mentor of Heroes
1 Garruk, Apex Predator
4 Sin Collector
3 Nylea's Disciple
3 Drown in Sorrow
1 Resolute Archangel
3 Abrupt Decay
