Infecter4life posted a message on The PucaTrade ThreadPosted in: Market Street CaféQuote from Drifting Skies »I have the opposite question that was asked earlier:
I'm trying to get some Revised Dual lands, and since I'm not in the mood to wait an eternity for a U.S. trader to show up, I figured I would try opening up to other countries. I'm not in a huge hurry to receive, but I'd like to know if there are any countries with really bad postal systems, because I don't want to end up in a situation where cards get lost / damaged in transit. Never really had good luck regarding issues with customs and other issues. Anyone want to recommend countries with decent postal systems where I won't be stuck waiting multiple months for something to arrive?
Canada, Japan, UK are three that I think are fine and safe *recieving (fix'd) from. I wouldn't risk anything else especially in continental Europe unless you want some trouble and make it double, to protect your cards from devestation...to unite all duals in this nation. To denounce the evils of truth and love, to extend your reach to the stars above. -

Cythare posted a message on [[Official]] Modern Huge GainersDiscussion of major market shifts that affect singles prices is fine, and discussion of Modern Masters 2 in that context is great! However, several of the posts on the previous page were about the cost of the packs themselves, which is unrelated to singles prices, and what I'd like to keep out of this thread.Posted in: Market Street Café Archive
I gave your post a Trolling warning because it was hyperbolic in nature and read as taunting users that were complaining about the MSRP of the set. In the future, if you have issues regarding my moderation, please feel free to take it to my Helpdesk or reach out by PM. -

If we don't protect our members from dishonest, predatory sellers, then who will? Of all people, the last person who should be able to get away with practices like this without suffering repercussions in the form of lost business is someone who regularly uses this site to not-so-subtly advertise his shop and prices.
Quote from CharonsObol »I've been around since 2006.
Were you posting under another name? Does it start with the letters r_e?
Quote from CharonsObol »I'm not the master of his inventory, and neither are you. I have no idea why he refunded orders, and neither do you. The burden of proof lies on you to show that he's taking advantage of his customers. So far, you have a quote that could go either way, and a website that says his inventory isn't zero. Congratulations, your evidence is circumstantial.
This thread is a list of stores that cancel orders when card prices spike. We have a store advertising unlimited inventory, with the cards still listed for sale, and an owner admitting that he cancelled 30 orders when the price spiked. He was given every opportunity to explain himself and chose not to. We have posters on the forum attesting to the fact that their own orders were cancelled, and that their orders did not violate the store's terms.
The fact that he cancelled orders when the price spiked has been proven. That is what this thread is for. If there is some extenuating circumstance I'm sure he would have explained it by now instead of reporting posts in the hope of sweeping this under the rug.
We have a dishonest seller using MTGS to drum up business. The community deserves to know. -

rancored_elf posted a message on [Khans of Tarkir] Running Tally of highest priced cards (Updated Feb 5th)If everybody got out of the market "until this daylight robbery ends", well, prices would crash to near zero. And then you (and everybody else) would become buyers, and prices would go up again, until equilibrium was reached. But that's where we are right now, an equilibrium between supply and demand, resulting in these current prices. If you got your wish and everybody sold until prices were more reasonable, prices would instantly become more reasonable, and people would switch to buyers at those low prices, sending the price up again, and so forth. Yes, I think you're wise to keep your money out until prices come down, as they most likely will fairly soon. That's the pattern with every set, ever. Price starts high, stays high for a few weeks, slowly pulls back, drops fairly quickly, stabilizes, drops a bit more, bottoms, and begins a long slow climb. Pretty much just like that over and over, as you have witnessed yourself.Posted in: Market Street Café Archive
Wishing for everybody else in a particular market to do the same as you is pretty much investing suicide. You want to be doing what they AREN'T. And right now, the market is buying up the new singles, so if your intention is to profit off market moves, you're holding your dollars on the sidelines.
I've got to hold dollars and singles at all times, and the nature of being in business means I'm always converting between the two (and other commodities), so I can't just "sit on cash until things get cheap". -

Cipher posted a message on Modern Esper Draw-GoPosted in: Control
I'm bored at work, so I'll bite.Quote from TheNoob »Remand does not GAIN card advantage. Remand does NOT buy us (the draw-go control shell) extra turns. Remand does NOT do well late game. Remand is a tempo play, early game it can "time walk" an opponent if you have an early clock on them. Remand does not belong in the draw-go shell of this deck.
All Remand does in the draw-go shell is delay a card that you know is valuable (if it wasnt you wouldnt have countered it) for a random card off the top of your deck. With a deck that runs a ton of cantrips and 26 lands, the odds are NOT in your favour that the card is better than what you had. This deck does not have the space/desire to play mini/sometimes "time walks"; we do not have a quick clock, our average card is less powerful than most other decks average card (its why we run so many cantrips) and we do not want to be at card disadvantage.
Now Condescend does not draw a card but this deck has a ton of card draw, in that context card filtering is almost as good. Condescend is often accused of being recourse heavy, but X only needs to be 1 for it to control a spell. Early game condescend can be as cheap as 1U, late game, when the opponent is in top deck mode, its ok to spend all our mana to counter their spell, as they will only be playing 1 spell a turn.
"Tempo" is a word people use in magic to describe positional advantage. Most Magic strategy was ripped off of chess and repackaged. Given the controlled pace at which things can be deployed to the board in Magic, we consider the playing of permanents to generate tempo, or positional advantage. The thing is, all pacing begins with the games most fundamental resource: mana. Lands are the foremost indicator of positional advantage, as far as the Control deck is concerned. Creatures and the like die in even, or even favorable exchanges; lands sit there forever.
In a deck that's properly constructed, the answers will come to creatures or whatever else. It's your mana development that's the issue. The point in the game where you can cast 2 spells a turn represents your fundamental turn with a draw-go deck. This is where Remand becomes a good card. For starters, its mana cost is only 2, so it allows itself to be played with another spell reliably on turn 4, or even 3. Most importantly, it trades mana, the most important resource, at an often favorable clip. You talked about needing tempo for Remand to be good; the lands you have in play is the positional advantage that makes Remand fit in draw-go. You think it's even on both sides, but your deck scales infinitely better with additional land drops. It's your entire strategy (lets pretend unbeatable end-game engines like Eye of Ugin don't exist for a minute).
I think people play a lot of archetypes and assume that the point of this draw-go is that they never resolve anything and you answer every threat at the highest life total possible. If that's what you believe, you fill your deck with more sorceries and more answers. Eventually your answers becomes threats in their own right, so as to not be dead cards in situations. Now you've basically built yourself and Esper Midrange/Tapout Control deck or whatever else you want to call it. If you believe the point is to develop your manabase till you can play Think Twice + removal every turn, you end up with they style of deck that Andrew Cuneo and Wafo Tapa build. Suddenly the best draw-go players and deck builders in the history of Magic don't look like fools anymore.
On another note, the mana exchange on Utter End is atrocious. You need very specific, prevalent threats that your entire deck can't answer to justify running what 9 times out of 10 will amount to a 4-mana Doom Blade as a silver bullet. Considering the deck construction, if my opponent plays a Liliana, I'd rather cast Concentrate and draw 3 cards, then Cryptic Command, Snapcaster, WSZ, Colonnade, or whatever to kill it. I know new cards are fun but this card doesn't seem playable. -

thg posted a message on Market Street's declinePosted in: Market Street CaféQuote from Duxx »I really don't want to respond to this and take it further off topic, but I feel I need to. How is discussing proxies relevant in a thread devoted to MS issues? PM me the answer as to not take this further off topic.
It was only relevant to MS in respect to moderation/rules. Further discussion was off-topic. You were correct to moderate. I stopped when told to.
Aether7 suggested it should have been done more tactfully. When I see moderation, it often appears confrontational. Things like "infraction issued" and "only warning" move things away from "friendly reminder". It would benefit MS if the moderation were less authoritarian and more respectful to those being moderated.
I appreciate that there is moderation in these forums and understand it is a time consuming and often thankless job (volunteer position). But, the manner in which is it done often does not make me feel more part of the community. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I roll to disbelieve.
With that said, I would be all too glad to sell you all the Dragonlord Silumgars you want for $1,280, as I know that is a completely unsustainable price.
EDIT: Even if it's obvious to me and others, I'm not particularly fond of using this the Running Tally threads as an April Fool's prank - people use this to make real money decisions, after all.

It was for an HP Mox. Since I did not have the points for the NM version at the time, I sent the points for the card directly rather than confirm a trade and have points refunded. I have done that with some other trades as well.
The shipping method was discussed in advance. It was sent only first-class, so registered / priority was not used. Given the high price of the card, I would generally expect that the cost would just be folded into the price of the card, rather than be added on externally, but that depends on the specific traders, though.
I think it was about 4 days, and then another 4 days to get scans and agree on a price.

Guy messages me with a MP Bayou that he wants 15,500 points for. By comparison, the NM price is currently 15,150. Told him I'm interested at around 13,500, and the guy doesn't even bother to tell me that 13,500 isn't enough, and just disappears.
I don't hold it against the individual since I'm always interested in getting the most points for my cards, but I could get a NM one on TCGPlayer shipped for $145, so... I'll pass.

2) I don't commit to sending cards if they don't want enough stuff that I have. There's a 30 minute window to cancel trades after you've committed and sometimes, it gets used for just this reason.
3) If you want foils, you'll have to pay. Being able to float points to another can be useful for sending less-than-NM and bounties as well.
4) I have had some trouble getting foil Flusterstorms and a second foil Overgrown Tomb that I want. If you're looking for foil C/UC's or Standard, it's probably easier.

2) CMC is what is printed on the card, and is never modified by any external effects that modify what cost you actually pay. There are no cards that affect the CMC of a card away from the printed value.
However, this is treated as an additional cost. Effects that can reduce this cost, such as Convoke or Delve, can be used to pay for this additional cost.

(After you sent those, I was thinking "With him [you] talking about having all those low-point cards you can't trade off easily, maybe that helps? For me, 280 points or so is about where I start feeling comfortable sending trades.)
