So as a actual paleontologist...this set leaves me a little too excited. Now here is hoping for RG dinosaur legendary for EDH.
Also hopefully a "Road to El Dorado" esque will be announced. I had this idea about having 8 expedition-level lands that work like Maze's End that once they are all down they fetch "El Dorado" and you get the auto win. Sure pain in the neck not to fetch but fun. This or a gold themed curse that's like King Macar but makes zombies for gold. Pirates of the Caribbean memed.
My best advice which doubt it matters would be shelve Rafiq for higher level events and then work on your back up decks. Sometimes you get the stage of either nit picking to fine tune to either your group or playstyle or getting asked to not play. Best work on something else. I ran recently into this problem which was me playing Prossh, I got asked to take it down but I min-maxed by build and didn't want to split it so picked up a precon (Saskia) and went to down on upgrading it.
Been working again on my Saskia, the Unyielding deck. Right now I have run into a bit of a wall. Not sure really which direction I want to go either just throw big value creatures around or go for flicker effects to control combat a bit more. I am the only person in local group that has taken her this far. She runs ok without tossing more money into the mana base. I am writing this to see if anyone had any thoughts on it.
Remarks -- I would like to add in Barbed Shocker and maybe Odric Lunarch Marshalalong with better equipment. Cloudshift might turn into a Lightning Bolt and Flinthoof Boar maybe will become a Fleecemane Lion. I'm just not sure again to go for full on value creatures for better assaults or some flicker loops to keep me in the game which will overall the creatures so I can spam Ashen Rider. Full fetches, swords, and true dual lands are currently on their way via loans so those spots will clear up. I'm sure there is plenty of fat to cut.
From a casual standpoint its like "Chaos" a fun little archtype to deal with which can help.
From a competitive standpoint. I think its a waste, I have talked amongst various players and those who sit down and proclaim they have a cedh "Group Hug" just get their eyes rolled at them. They try to help and play politics (which is another dig against it). Its like running though a Lions den with Slim Jims and BBQ sauce in your pocket.
Actually yes. I really like the Embalm mechanic. Problem is I am going in with an intro pack. I play EDH too much to invest in something that will rotate out and Modern-Legacy kind of gets stale for me.
Wow, excellent write up. Been talking to by local group to getting in on this but they have been hesitant due to lack of sources.
However, I do have a question. If I build a French list. Can I bring that to my regular play group and hope for the best or does French just automatically lose? kind of like in casual how a legacy deck will not be fun to play against if you have a standard deck.
Not sure how this thread is still moving or maybe think about posting elsewhere but this are a couple of lists so far. I am still slowly working on some convergence with your current list so most of this is just abuse when I can where I can. Still thinking Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, Barbed Shocker, Voltaic Brawler, Hero's Blade, better ramp, or untaps like Bear Umbra and a some other things. Not sure which one to pick.
So what is the current consensus on the more energy focused builds? Right now mine is looking like a weird fusion of the two. Sure, its getting me though but I took out the more expensive pieces (Dseason / Cradle) to focus on the energy and some undying stuff go tossed in until the next shipment.
As someone who grew up with alt win cons as a player. Doesn't matter if its Lifecanon, Elocutors, Infect you just need to basically make that vacuum and basically be the Blue Turtle shell from Mario cart.
34-37 is my rule of thumb. Again, depends on your battleplan.
I normally match my lands out in function / important vs unimportant. I don't have access or want to play with 1 basic of my colors and everything else variants of Mana Confluence or fetches. So After picking my important lands then I just solitaire out basics in my colors and make the spread even so I make sure my curve: basic land drop. That way I can hit curves and not be overly slowed down. Of course this is all based around decks. Mono colored deck you might as just run 34-37 basics and call it a day, two colored would be your shocks, city, manacon, 12 of two colors so on and so on.

I really like Ben's list my problem is its French and my group isn't but is there maybe a "core" we can adapt from it? https://deckstats.net/decks/83855/691540-saskia-s-unyielding-zoo/en
was Altar of Dementia mentioned?
