There really isn't as much drama as you would like.
"Hey we are closing the site for X and Y reasons on such and such date."
"That sucks, can we try to save it in any way?"
"No, our minds are made up."
"Well crap. Ok, we are going to build a new site because we love what we were doing and the community that we built."
"Ok cool. Good luck with that."
"Oh hey someone is buying the site and it's remaining open."
"Ok, we are still continuing with what we started."
"Yeah we figured, good luck."
Ditto, the only ones I run are in an Uril deck, and very seldomly ones that I specifically want to attach to a general.
How would you cast it? You banned basic lands, remember?
Depends on the build. My Karador deck is good friends with Skullclamp.
I didn't think players would scoop just because he could cast his general for free (although if so, OP should play Rhys for an instawin), so I assumed they were afraid of the Rooftop Storm combo.
No, apparently people will just say that if they think it.
Well that's embarrassing, especially since I built a Doran deck a couple of years ago and thought Castle didn't have the errata. Good to know, since I'm rebuilding it. Never knew about the functional reprint. Thanks for that.
Ugh, yeah, I misread the card. That does make it better than I thought initially.
With the disclaimer that I never ran it in a deck that had ways to consistantly dump many lands into play at once, I don't really like it. I found that I always wanted to hold it until I could get 3-4 lands out of it, but every time I got the chance, it caused me to have to discard. YMMV though, and it's certainly worth trying out.
I think there's a lot of good that can come from all these discussions, whether it be cards or strategies that people like/dislike, interpretations, or any other debatable topic. But as you and others said, toning down the vitriol is key.
Oh man, that card is awesome! Need a playset now, just to have some extras on hand.
For Doran, Castle is just better, and the deck doesn't really want multiple ways to do this effect, since you lose it when attacking (and tapped, but vigilance is king for his wall deck).
100% correct on the political aspect, but only half useful, again due to the not attacking restriction.
It's more probable that if everybody was as active on the forums as we are, everyone would start running the same ten decks. It seems like for every new forum member that asks for help with an established deck, there's two that have and off the wall deck. The "noobs" are what keep edh fresh.
I like the interaction that Remand has with MSW, but I hate the idea of not actually countering a spell, merely making them wait another turn to cast it. The extra card is nice though. Dunno, if I can find one I'll probably give it a whirl.
P-Funk, thank you for providing your definition of a casual player. If this is the generally accepted definition that the RC uses, could it be clearly defined on the site too (along with your definition of social game)?
Ogre, the only concern I'd have with additional format changes is what changes to make? You can't change the way the cards interact within the EDH structure (like Serra Ascendent) because unless Wizards takes control of the format, you can't errata the cards. I like the idea of fixing the format to unban cards, but while it sounds good in the general sense, in practicality I don't think it would work. I'm finding this out in this own thread with a lot of the good replies.
