Well I took my wife and daughters to a farming supply store to look at baby chicks and ducklings because why not. Me being the naive dad I am didnt think anything of it. Needless to say, we own chickens now.

I agree with the sentiment but I guess there is the valid question of if there are fair uses of the card? Obviously you don't have to combo with it but at its price tag and its limitation of exile sacing it might be a valid question to ask how often it is run as a fair card. I know to some extent Hermit Druid was defended by the fact that it has fair potential in a mill deck who just wants to push some of their deck into grave.

Is there really much room for Food Chain as a fair non infinite combo?

Does that really matter though? Why should we go down the rabbit hole of whether a card is "fair" or not if it doesn't meet a threshold for banning? If it isn't ruining casual tables then it seems like this is a problem for cEDH to deal with.

I'm not sure how I feel about Gideon's Sacrifice. On the one hand, it's a strict upgrade for Blaze of Glory and easy swap. On the other hand, BoG is just pimp.

Several top cEDH decks have Food Chain as the main win-condition and build around card. I'm a little tired of playing it, and of seeing it.

However, Commander is not cEDH! So here's my question: Is your average Joe using Food Chain in a fair way? Or is it still being slotted into Prossh precons and causing unenjoyable experiences for an otherwise casual table? I'd love to hear some other personal experiences about this card.

I have only ever seen it in dedicated combo decks like Prossh and Tazri. I'm not a fan of cards that are two card combos with the general (especially if that general gives you access to the necessary tutors), but I also know the ban list would have to grow noticeably if we were to ban every card that combos with a general.

Between the cacophony that is the planeswalkers as generals thread and the critical mass we are about to get, I'm thinking about how I can fill my cube with enough of them to justify making a house rule that you can draft them as your general.

So, would the static abilities work from CZ? If not, I don't really see an issue. The new Ashiok is super fine in limiting all the graveyard shenanigans. And those are many...I think groups would just adjust to the change and go from there.

Sure? You can say the same thing about every card on the ban list though, so I'm not sure what point you're making.

Stasis only works when it's on the battlefield and I can adapt to it. That doesn't mean I would be fine with it in the Command zone.

I read the first book like 10 or so years back and when I finished I was like..... yea I hate this series lol. I tried the TV show a few seasons into it and honestly I would randomly watch one episode and then walk away for like 3 weeks. It took a few seasons for it to kind of warm to me but I am at the point that I am just going to wait for it to be done and maybe see if I can find a way to binge it without buying it or getting some sort of costly subscription.

My wife subscribed to HBO on Amazon prime just so she could watch the new season.

I think the comparison to EDHREC has been made, some more tactfully than others. Please try to keep the replies to the OP constructive in nature and not needlessly blunt. Thanks.

Oloro, Nekusar, Kaalia, Ydris, Animar, Derevi, Narset, Prossh, Krenko

There's a few to start off with, there are many more.

Only on of those cards has a built in feature to actively take part of the game away from your opponents. Any time a card does that it should immediately be a red flag. So right off the bat I am wary of the card. Then I look at the very first deck idea that pops in my head to exploit it, and I know from other wheels decks that getting wheeled faster than I can use the cards is not fun (one more strike against it). Lastly, I look at how easily I can reuse the card. 8n this case, a planeswalker has a repeatable ability, and a low cmc that lets me recast it when needed.

And that's where I left it. I can separate "I don't want to see in the Command Zone" from "should be banned". There are a number of already legal commanders I don't like to see in the Command zone, but you don't see me clamoring to have them banned. However, this is a unique opportunity because we are discussing unbanning an entire category of cards, and doing that requires us to look at each individual and determine if their risk makes it worth adding the whole. This is where I'm at because I see a whole lot of individual risk (since the ones I would actually want banned are rather few).

Got my Game of Thrones death squares (randomly assigned from 25 x 25 grid). Got a few nice picks (top 2), a decent sleeper (Theon kills Euron) and guaranteed payout if Night King and The Mountain battle 1v1:

    Jaime kills Cersei
    Jon Snow kills Jaime
    Arya kills Bronn
    Arya kills the Mountain
    Brienne kills Bronn
    Brienne kills Sam
    Dany kills Podrick Payne
    Davos kills Podrick
    Euron kills Sam
    Euron kills Sansa
    Grey Worm kills Dany
    Jorah kills Davos
    Jorah kills Tormund
    Melisandre kills Euron
    Qyburn kills Jon Snow
    Sam kills Theon
The Mountain kills The Night King
The Night King kills The Mountain
    Theon kills Euron Greyjoy
    Tormund kills Grey Worm

I have literally never seen an episode of GoT. Am I a horrible person?

I haven't really put on my thinking cap and digested the spoilers so far, but there is a large number of planeswalkers so far that between their static abilities and/or activated abilities I really don't want to see in the Command zone. I don't know how many of them I would actually advocate to ban, but much like the existing list we made, plenty of them would not make for a fun game, imo. Ashiok, for example would be a pretty miserable game of wheel/discard followed by exiling graveyards ad nauseam.

Not "Elder DRAGON Highlander"; "ELDER DRAGON Highlander".

Of course, 10 more Elder Dragons have been printed since then. Smile

I seems to recall Sheldon once saying when he took the game from Alaska and started to make it more than just a homebrew variant with a solitary playground one of the first things he did was allow any legendary creature. So they didn't really suddenly decide to expand who could be in the command zone.

I mean, there is another format where you can do that, and I was told repeatedly when it launched that it was going to be better than commander in part because you could run planeswalkers, and because it lacked the busted fast mana and tutors, but it seems that format isn't very popular for some reason.

Judging from this poll (and every time I see this discussed elsewhere) allowing planes walkers as commanders is pretty unpopular, so it doesn't follow that they should be allowed as commanders in the most popular casual format. I'd also question them being the most iconic characters. Certainly some of them are, but there are also plenty of legendary creatures that are just as iconic, and plenty of planeswalkers that elicit a "who?" from most players.

As someone who doesn't follow the story, I literally have no idea who any of these planeswalkers are and barely know anything about even the Lorwyn five. They mean as much to me as every other legendary creature.
