Nothing has been archived out of public view. Prophet was probably banned before we set up this sub if there isn't a SCD. You'd have to search the general ban list thread for Prophet discussion.

There is no hidden motive here, I'm working on a somewhat comprehensive guide to the ""best of" to help new players, so the more you throw at me the less likely I'll overlook something obvious.

The hills that some people choose to die on...

CV is the poster child for "this will never be unbanned". This has been discussed to death tbh.

I think it COULD be unbanned, I just don't see a compelling reason to do so.

Any distinction beyond that is personal opinion.

Or the opinion of the format creators, but who f***ing cares what those idiots think, they don’t know what they’re doing anyways.

This is becoming Sol Ring discussion 2.0.

I won’t join the new site if there is a thread anywhere discussing Coalition Victory. I’ll let you guys decide if that’s a good thing or bad.

There will be a dedicated area for ban list discussion, but any SCD discussion threads will be naturally occurring. I'm not loading any to begin with. If CV comes up then just ignore it maybe? I'm pretty sure if someone made a thread wanting to ban Land Tax I'd give it a glance but otherwise ignore it.

Hey everyone, I'm compiling a bunch of "best of" staples lists, and thought I would turn to the experts. So post your favorite and best cards of the following:

    Ramp & mana fixing
    Removal
    Tutors
    Card draw
    Graveyard hate
    Recursion

Please include the category, even though it should be obvious it will just help me filter. No answer is wrong and this isn't a place for debate, I'll be subjectively making final lists. Thanks in advance!

Library of Alexandria is not banned for secondary market reasons.

Source? Because I'm pretty sure that it's solely banned due to PBtE.

Oh come on. It's high time we all stop pretending people put these cards in their deck to do anything except win. Nobody plays Palinchron as just a flying beater. Nobody plays Enter the Infinite just to draw their deck and then do nothing. Just because I have a single cool story about copying an opponent's Expropriate 30 times doesn't make Expropriate a fun card. The power creep in EDH is real. CV is just another drop in the sea at this point.

Um, yeah they do. I personally have played, seen played, and seen other people online who play Hulk, T&N, AN, Doomsday, and Expropriate as just good cards and not instant win combo cards.

Now would I take the stance that these uses are in the majority? Of course not. But the point is that there are fair uses for these cards, while CV can only be played in exactly one manner. As pokken said, ask yourself what unbanning CV adds to the format. Are there going to be cool stories about how it got played? Is there unique design space? Because I would argue that "well X Y and Z are legal in itself isn't a compelling reason to unban something.

Yeah I think we are getting many more blue generals that care about the graveyard and Gifts has some interesting design space. Plus, with Intuition being on the reserve list, it would be nice to see that effect at a price that is more reasonable to players.

Enter the Infinite ends the game the next turn, one way or the other. Either the caster does whatever they're trying to do and wins because they're holding their whole deck in their hand, or the caster fails somehow and mills out because they're holding their entire deck in their hand.

Doomsday is a card that is boring AF to play and lose to for this exact same reason. I have never lost a game when I resolved it. And I honestly don't know how many times I've won that way, except for two games when I mistapped my mana and had to pass turn. In one the opponent just didn't have a play, and in 5he other they were so focused on trying to disrupt my hand that they overlooked the Bojuka Bog in their hand which would have wrecked me. But the thing is, in each of those games the apprehension that being on the verge of death by empty library made what was an otherwise boring and disappointing win something more memorable, if only because it made a story that wasn't "oh I cast Doomsday into LabMan".

EtI, Tooth and Nail, Ad Nauseam, etc., are all similar in the sense that when you resolve these you SHOULD win the game on the spot if you are building your deck competitively, but they don't HAVE to win you the game. That is why I reject the premise that CV is comparable. It doesn't matter if I'm trying to cheat it out with some ramp spells and ABUR duals, or if I naturally draw into five different basic lands in your tribal Gates deck. There are no coop stories about how you fought back against CV but then lost.

YMMV though. This is just my opinion.

But that's just it. CV literally does nothing else and there isn't any interesting use for it. I don't know if that in of itself should merit banning, but most of the other "I win" cards that come up in comparison can at least lead to interesting game states that don't end the game.

Other than the general, our lists look pretty different. Hopefully that would hold up in court :p

That could be a mistake, I admit, but one of the reasons I stay away from that (and Survival) is that it isn't always the most fun to just *have* the answer. I know it seems odd to say that considering how poorly the deck has performed lately as well as the fact that I included Fauna Shaman and am thinking about Survival anyway. Generally, I don't really like cards that tend to skew decks to playing out the same way each game.

However, Pod and Survival do kind of go the opposite way since I don't play infinite combos. That is, one game I might need to tutor up False Prophet to clear out a board stall. Another I may need to just get a Chupacabra to deal with one annoying creature without blowing up the rest of my board. Another time I might just want to get Harmonic Sliver to blow up an artifact or enchantment, or I just need some early ramp. So, while these cards can cause games to play out the same, the very nature of this deck, and the cards included in it, means that it probably won't always be the same thing. Even if it does turn into always having an answer, it doesn't mean that every game is identical.

My list actually seems to line up fairly well with Birthing Pod. Especially now that I have the Walls at the 2 drop slot (for now) as they give me something to sacrifice to get more value. As I am typing this, I am moving more towards the "include Pod" side of things. That, and Survival, may offer the deck the consistency it really needs.

Now, with all of that being said, there is the "simple" matter of finding something to cut. I do fully expect that one of my recent 7 or 8 changes will not pan out for whatever reason. Whether that is a dork, a removal spell, Wayfarer, Library, or a Wall remains to be seen. Which means that I think I need to get some reps in with the deck as it is to determine where cuts can be made. At that time, I will slot in Pod first followed by Survival if I think I still need it. Survival and Fauna Shaman are easy swaps but I am wondering if both might make sense even if the Shaman is more limited.

Lol I meant because your title is the same as mine.

Anyway, my deck rarely plays the same and Pod will only get you the same cards over and over if you build your deck to always go Wad Robot into Karmic Guide for the Llark combo. It's one of my favorite cards in the deck.

Forgot it's not actually a 5 color creature, eh?

Lol, yeah. I was so wrapped up in the abilities, and my brain had an aside "it tutors your CV lands!" but I wasn't actually thinking about CV.
That seems to be the direction WotC has taken, making more non-WUBRG creatures with a WUBRG color identity: General Tazri, Jodah, Archmage Eternal, Ramos, Dragon Engine, Najeela, the Blade-Blossom, Sisay, Weatherlight Captain, Morophon, the Boundless, and now Golos, Tireless Pilgrim. If anything, that should be a point for unbanning CV, because it is becoming increasingly likely that your average 5 color deck isn't being commanded by a 5 color creature.

That is an interesting observation, and I think Ramos was the only 5c deck I saw at sgccon (although there are at least two Ur-Dragon and one Slivers decks floating around my LGS).
