I think the better analog would be Panoptic Mirror.

Paradox Engine is basically a cEDH vers. of Panoptic Mirror, but actually good.
Mirror can make games absolutely miserable, and dead slow. Board wipe on Mirror until they get time magic? So fun etc.

PE just sometimes won, sometimes did nothing, but always took 20 mins to do either Smile

It bothers me that he doesn't have first strike in the first typeline instead of double strike. He's pretty fun with Valor though.
Its just like when they say whenever 'X or another', and its like, yea we know he counts for this thing. Ex : Xathrid Necromancer Just say when a human. They try and dumb it down too much and actually make it more confusing.

Tons of cool Allies in those colors. Also wizards. Pick a cool tribe. Infect is also possible as those creatures tend to be overcosted, and Animar mutes that.

The likelihood of making the change abruptly straight up ruining the game is high. Pretending that the risk is not massive just to make your point is something I find questionable.
And saying any change would be so massive, especially one that has already happened before, would ruin EDH is an even bigger assumption.

Large changes have happened before, and everyone got past it. Pretending this could end EDH is a ludicrous way to frame an argument.

I agree a trial would be a spectacular way to go, but outside once allowing Silver boarder for a set time, they don't do trials.

I do think one day the life total will come down, or the option will be codified.

Thought experiment: if Expropriate was a modal spell and the first one was Ponder for UU, would it be broken?
    What?

Stax cards are cards that more people should play. There is just too much stupid ***** that needs answering and running a couple single target removals just won't cut it.
The problem with that line of thinking is specifically that stax does not target. You can't get help dealing with someone if your allies are taxed out of most things.

If everyone is playing some removal, threats get dealt with. If you play stax everyone suffers, and the person who needs dealing with is the stax player.

A PW whos PLUs can just win games is good. Add in the static, and whoa.

I think we are just lucky it cannot be a Commander.

I have lost to it because you cannot even react before its +.

All I have to say “don’t ban the good/overpowered/degenerate/etc combo pieces because people will just side grade”. So.....for clarity sake we shouldn’t ban a card like Griselbrand or more relevantly Prophet because YawWill/Necro and Seedborn Muse all exist?
I think the difference is, the next best combo piece is probably almost as good as the next, so 'downgrade' is minimal. The downside of Griz or Seed is the step down is a STEP DOWN. Same goes for mana rocks, ie anything that gives out more than it costs.

EDIT: If anyone has link to that podcast, please share!?

They have said no ban list changes would happen Monday.

I think adjustment of the philosophy and ban criteria to encourage more 'social/casula play'.

That will lead to some new bans the next go around (My guess is Paradox Engine, maybe a few more).

About a month ago the Wizards podcast did an episode with I think 5 of the 6 CAG members, and they were asked what they would banned. Every single one of them said Iona, so I can't believe she is going to remain legal in the long run.
Man I wish. People on the RC have fought for it on their forum more than once, I bet it stays until the end of time.

Yes. When you cast the copy of the Counterspell card with Scepter, it triggers Paradox Engine. After PE's trigger resolves, but before counterspell does, repeat it with the untapped Scepter.

What a ridiculous reduction of the conversation being had. There are at least 2 or 3 other cards that easily sub into those scenarios with the same outcome.
I was being mildly facetious, but the fact remains if the problem is "Sol Ring is ruining our games" banning Sol Ring is an easy and efficient solution. Will other cards step in to fill the void? Probably. But they won't be Sol Ring. Ergo, Sol Ring won't be ruining any more games. If the other cards are also ruining games, ban them too. Problem solved.
The conversation was never"Sol Ring is ruining our games", thats my point. Secondly the determination of IF those cards are ruining a significant number of games is the difficult part. Of course adding 3 cards to the ban list is simple. Your argument was without nuance.

But of course that would require actually doing something. Instead we'll continue talking in circles while nothing changes.
Are you on the RC or CAG? As I assume not, what exactly is your idea about 'doing something'?

conspiracy is in her colors, as are enchantment tutors.
Errata shows that Conspiracy actually "cancels" other creature types, which means if you name Angel, all creatures become angel in your deck, and Kaalia would only be able to pick out one at a time instead of potentially 2~3.
Yes, but I thought the discussion was non-tribal cards. This makes them fetchable.

Changing to 30 life will change the format far more than banning even a large number of combo cards.
They already moved it down once, and it was not the end of the world. The original rules was 200/(#of players). Yes I think it would have a strong affect, but so would a reversal on combo. They have been more permissive of the archetype, not less, the last few years. Reversing course and upsetting the idea of 'play good cards responsibly' takes a hit.

Again, 30 also lightly disrupts the ramp into infinity games. And helps people team up to kill established threats.

One archetype that hasn't been discussed so far is Ramp. Lower life total definitely helps aggro vs ramp.
Here is something I agree with. Also ramp is considered a 'fair' play style, even if you are dead but don't know it because they have twice as many lands as you.
