The End of an Era

I was more just talking about the short-term, not long-term cost. Unless the companies that already make the spools are anticipating it (and hey, they may very well be, but history has shown us numerous times that the market sometimes drops the ball on things), that there may be a sudden boom in people wanting to do 3D printing. Supply - in the short term - goes down, demand goes up, costs go up. Eventually of course the supply is going to match the demand, and prices will level out. They may be higher than they are now, but I'm not saying that they will be significantly higher, only that it would probably be higher. Yes, companies will undercut each other, but you can walk into almost any store and look at a shelf of any product and see a wide array of costs, and regardless of how cheap something is, there is always someone who will pay more, thinking that the more expensive one = better quality. Prices tend to balance out over time.

Why do you say this? If it does it will be for a short period of time until the supply catches up with the demand.

Also, 50 bucks is as expensive as I've seen filament. I've bought stuff under 20 dollars.

I think it will go up because more people will want it. And honestly, how many people are going to sit around and make the most random of crap just to see it get made?

Right now, a 2 lbs. spool of filament runs a little under 50 bucks at Staples. However, that spool can probably make 5-6 HUGE figures. I know some people like the weight of a metal figurine, but I think that's outweighed by 3D Prints having an overall lower maintenance cost over time PLUS figures can be light while still being sturdy (considering we can now print things like fully-automatic firearms, clothes, and musical instruments, which tend to take more damage from sheer exposure.)

I predict the cost in materials will go up when more people have 3D printers in their homes.

Well, for me, I own one of every Shock/Fetch/Dual/Check/Scry/Filter for my EDH Cube, and then just put those into whichever deck I'm building at the time when I want a constructed deck.

I run mine similar to this, only I do like to use Painlands as well, and probably before Scry.

I used to love Warhammer 40k, but yeah... I put way too much into my army, and eventually sold most of it off when I had a kid. The idea of trying to get back into a mini game gives me a headache.

So I decided to put my Zur deck back together, and I'm missing a card :/ No idea which one it was, either.

You didn't have a written list anywhere? I always either type or write them up somewhere so I can get a better idea of what I have going on with them.

Wii-U is the only current-gen console even remotely worth picking up IMO. The other two, any game of interest is basically guaranteed to see a (considerably cheaper) PC release.

I feel like a WiiU would actually be a decent system, if only for my kid, but I haven't owned a nintendo system since the gamecube. You do, however, make a valid point. In the last... seven? eight? years I think just about every game that has come out has had a PC port. There's been a handful of exclusives I've wanted to own, but not many.

Man, I hope Sunset Overdrive gets ported to PC or PS4 sometime next year. That's the only XBone exclusive I actually want to play.

The last generation of consoles has been the first that I've kind of more or less just completely skipped out on. I stick to my PC a lot, but I kind of want to pick up a console here lately. I've been so busy though, gaming in general falls into this weird, sometimes category.

I think you can get a solid deck out of either, but I like the flexibility that multi-colored decks bring. Sure, you can get away with a cheaper manabase if you rock a mono color, but you also open yourself up to risks, like Iona. At the same time, green offers some of the best removal, but so does white, so pairing them together can be pretty powerful.

At the end of the day... I think it's up to you. What do you like better?

EDIT: Another thought that kind of came to me as I was sitting thinking about the two decks I am in the process of building/rebuilding... The thing I like about EDH more than a lot of formats is... It's really about what you want to play. You can ask for advice and suggestions, but you should really build and play what you want to. If you want to run all of the hottest winfast/more cards, that's your choice. If not? Your choice too. Play the color that tickles your fancy with the cards that get you excited, and be happy about it. I hope whatever you land on is fun.

I took a break from Magic for about a year. It's been a tough year, but I'm starting to get excited about the game again. I've kind of been mulling the idea of getting back into EDH over. I could easily just slap together my old decks, but I'm kind of wanting to start fresh and do something new, albeit with old generals I liked. My first deck that I ever made was with Sigarda, so I am thinking I am going to sit down and make a new Sigarda deck. I also want to make a new Jarad deck as well. While I generally prefer the tri-colored decks, I think coming into it fresh with these two - two that I have always really loved - is probably the best way to get back into the game.

Argh. So my brother sold all of the cards he had. It wasn't until later that he realized he also sold off quite a few of mine that he had been using.

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. I think the problem with her price is the casual/EDH fraction, where she actually sees play. Other than that there is no real reason, that I know of... It becomes even weirder if her price is compared to Craterhoof Behemoth, who is a mythic from the same set, both no reprints so far (well, for Avacyn that's changing), but Behemoth sees actually play in casual formats and on competitive level.

They are both mythics, so not sure if that really plays into things there at all, really. Craterhoof has gone up in price since the last time I looked at it as well. I mean, it's been quite a long time since I played or priced out cards, but I have a bunch of those too. With Avacyn, I can see why she gets play, even competitively in the right deck, but that is an astounding price at any level for that card. Crazy.

Avacyn's Median on TCGplayer is 32, and Pucatrade lists it as 31 as well :p[/card]

Wow, when the hell did her price jump so much? I need to unload a few of those.

Also... why?? I remember when she was less than five, that's just crazy.
