So first time 'lore' poster here. I play magic strictly for the card game and never really cared about the storyline until recently. I loved the Scars/12/Inn standard back in the day and LOVED New Phyrexia and Innistrad in 2011.
Now the most straightforward thing would be that Emarkul left Zendikar and is now on Innistrad and thats what all this 'corruption' is... but My question is, is there any chance that we could get a swerve and this corruption be Phyrxian related? Just asking all you Magic Lore experts out there. Thanks.
So I am looking for some feedback and constructive criticism (I got my flame suit on). So I consider myself a UW Control or UW Midrange or UW Titan whatever you want to call it player. Here is my list:
I like this brew for various different reasons. I really like Aether Spellbomb a lot to either save my own Snapcaster or Resto before I Supreme Verdict. And like most of you, Im thinking about replacing Titan with the new SOI Avacyn.
I think this deck will be better when something from the Eldrazi deck gets banned.
Lastly, I only run 24 lands vice 25 as most UW builds run. I cut Colonade from 4 to 3. I really hate drawing multiple Colonades and I lothe lands that come into play tapped after turn 1.
I've made a tough decision tonight and ended up dismantling my favorite type of deck, Esper Control. It was a variant of the Esper Draw-Go, and I sadly decided to go with my traditional Naya Burn deck.
I absolutely love my Esper deck, but the problem was at FNM, I'd go to time every match, every week and by the time Top 8 came around, I was mentally drained.
I'm a control player at heart, and feel more comfortable with my Esper over my Naya, but the Naya is so much faster, less tiring and has a good match up against most decks. That, and it looks like pure control in modern won't be getting much love from WotC, unfortunately.
So, with all my pieces from the Esper deck, should I build a second Modern deck? If so, now or later? And which deck would you recommend a control player? Don't say Tron - It's not control. I was possibly thinking RUG Scapeshift? Win by turn 7-8 instead of.. 15-20+
I honestly don't know what to do, and I wanted to ask here to get a clear goal before trading away cards I'll regret later. Again.
Thank you everyone!
There are several options for you, but first you may need to realize that you prefer tap-out control over draw-go. It's more proactive and much less draining. With that out of the way, there are several tap-out options. Straight UW Control is the most competitive, but Titan Control is an absolute blast to play. I'm pretty sure there are tapout versions of Esper as well, although I'm also pretty sure they are really bad. UWR is also making a comeback, and it's a pretty good deck.
Thank you very much for your reply! Yeah, I'm realizing that I do prefer tap-out, more things to do and gets the job done faster for tournaments. I was actually looking at U/W Control, and I have most of the pieces already and can definitely find the rest of the cards. I'm honestly leaning towards that, Scapeshift, UWR and Blue Moon(But the last two are very pricey). You are talking about the UW Titan one, though, right? I haven't looked into it, yet.
There's UW Control and UW Titan. They are different archetypes.
I love modern and struggle with this question too. I sold all my paper and went strict MTGO for the last few years. Im looking at getting back into paper magic and im going to play UW Titan/Control. Here is my list.
I definitely dont run a 'standard' build. Its my brew, but I like a lot of the options most other decks dont run such as Aether Spellbomb. Nothing better than returning a Snapcaster or Restoration angel to my hand just before I Supreme Verdict the board away. No surprise here, its not great against UW Eldrazi but good against the rest of the field. I think this deck gets 'better' if something from the Eldrazi deck gets banned in April.
Finally, as much of a powerhouse Titan is (and he is a sweet drop), Im thinking about taking him out for the new Avacyn.
you've missed the point of a non-rotating format then. you're supposed to be able to build a deck and keep playing that deck. it may drop out of viability because of new printings, but you'll always be able to play that deck.
yeah, i severely doubt a new deck will spawn out of nowhere due to these bannings. anyone who thinks so is foolish. you need a catalyst in the form a new card to spur "innovation." the tiers might be shaken a little, but there won't be a jeskai ascendency popping up in the next few months.
It is non-rotating. The card birthing pod got banned. A whole set didn't rotate out. And yes, we can brew new decks from no where. We have no idea how FRF cards will interact and no idea what's comng in DTK.
So now you can't play modern without Bob and Goyf.
The format is less accessible than ever with these bans.
At least UR Delver and Pod were semi affordable.
Can see people leaving this format in droves.
I'm quoting this post, but not picking on or attacking the poster.
But in response to this, the format is just as accessible. It's time to not use the cookie cutter decks that have been around for a while and time to put our brains to use and brew new awesome decks that were once unthought of.
I piloted pod and you know what, I grew complacent. I would have stuck with this deck forever. This is good for us and good for the games evolution.
I think the allied colored swords are coming for sure. They will complete the cycle and have all 10 eventually. While Khans seems like it could fit and be logical, I think it's too soon from Scars.
Could you imagine a block where we get the enemy wedges, allied swords, and all 10 fetches?
Hah Delver has probably had more impact outside of standard than all of Theros block combined.
Well, I had to know so I've attempted a list:
Artful Dodge - Infect
Avacyn's Pilgrim - budget pod
Bump in the Night - Burn
Cavern of Souls - Merfolk, any other tribal
Champion of the Parish - Blitz
Clifftop Retreat - Assorted RW
Craterhoof Behemoth - Elves
Delver of Secrets - Delver (obviously)
Entreat the Angles - Miracles
Faithless Looting - Assorted combo
Gavony Township - Naya, Pod
Geist of Saint Traft - UWR Midrange
Grafdigger's Cage - Many sideboards
Griselbrand - Reanimator
Huntmaster of the Fells - Assorted midrange
Intangible Virtue - Tokens
Isolated Chapel - Junk, Pod
Kessig Wolf Run - Naya
Liliana of the Veil - Lots
Lingering Souls - Lots
Past in Flames - Storm
Pillar of Flame - Zoo, Naya
Restoration Angel - Control, Pod
Sigarda, Host of Herons - Pod
Slayer's Stronghold - Amulet of Vigor
Snapcaster Mage - Anything blue
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad - Tokens
Stony Silence - Sideboards all over Modern
Sulfur Falls - Storm, Delver
Terminus - Miracles
Thalia - Hatebears
Vault of the Archangel - Tokens
Vexing Devil - Burn
Wild Defiance - Infect
Woodland Cemetery - Rock, Pod
Zealous Conscripts - Pod
36 cards, did I miss anything that's not super fringe? More than twice the number of Theros, and far more impactful cards at that. By my count 17 of these cards made the jump to Legacy so Innistrad had more cards in just Legacy than Theros contributed to Vintage+Legacy+Modern.
Innistrad was the greatest block in recent memory. Even Avacyn Restored. People might argue that, but I remember the hype of Bonfire of the Dammed and Tamiyo... and who can forget Restoration Angel. Epic Block was Epic.
Force of will reprint- bring it to modern. Of course, with the new judge/online art. It sorta fits the theme of warriors and the "force of their will" so to speak.

I think Morph is the old...? at this point it does not matter to debate it, Im happy both are back.
I'll just leave this right here.
Bolas, we are coming for you!
