Right so this forum has devolved in to a leftist trolling ground.

Two extremist, that were rebuked by the party.

    Its been a gas.

You're welcome to bump the crazy teacher's aid thread, but they've been fired and this guy is still representing the US public.

It's also another place to discuss the whole "GOP is racist!" topic that clogs up the presidential threads.

I don't even want to declare the Republican party racist, but we have these public figures that say these distasteful things and it shows.

Since some people brought up getting rid of congress I have a question then. If obama could do whatever he wanted, whatever he felt was best for the country, what would he do? How would it all be paid for in the end? What would our country look like by the end of it? Would it fix the long-term issues that the country faces (no more kicking of cans down roads.)? Basically wwod. What would obama do?

Quoting myself, odd as that probably is, to make sure people didnt just completely miss my small post, and to add to it:

I just heard that things are getting even worse in Europe, especially southern Europe. The flat GDP growth that was predicted for 2012, has now been pushed into the negative, and its projected to only get worse in 2013. Rioting is getting worse in Greece, and theres fear of it spreading and growing worse as those countries try to find a way to deal with their massive debts and the lack of revenue to be able to pay them. It was even noted (this was from my business news, CNBC btw), that even Germany is getting affected by the declines in GDP growth, and that has a lot of people concerned. Due to that, plus a multitude of other negative factors being brought out today (including Boeing looking to cut approx 10% of its workforce due to defense spending cuts, and decreased demand for their defense divisions and trying to cut costs to get ahead of such issues.) the market is down nearly 300 points today, on the bright side, oil is down over $3, so that should continue to put downward pressure on gas prices.

Basically, Im a bit worried about things going into the future. Which is why I was asking, in part, what everyone felt Obama would do, especially if congress wasnt blocking his way, and all of the other questions in asked in the quoted post.

We do have congress, and Obama does work with the legislature.

If congress was not blocking the way the stimulus would have been at least a trillion dollars and it wouldn't have had so many tax cuts. The 2001 and 2003 tax holidays would have been extended only for individuals making under $200,000 which would reduce the deficit by $100b. Ending the wars reduces the deficit by a few more billions of dollars, which is partly why we've seen the deficit go from $1.2 trillion to $1.0 trillion last year. Increased economic activity and a returning tax base is another reason the deficit is going down. It still isn't quite enough, and the second topic after "Obama won re-election" is get this Grand Bargain deal done so we don't go into the sequestrations.

It may or may not get done. If Obama just did what he wanted against congress' opposition, we would have a public option for health care, Gitmo would be closed, children of illegal immigrant parents would have a pathway towards citizenship through four years of college or six years of military service. There are more. They're coming to me.

My word is Obama an orator. I'm a cynical Canadian and at times even my throat was tightening as he spoke with passion about people coming together, despite what the pundits would have you believe. I know these speeches usually amount to nothing, but I hope that passion can ignite a fire in the hearts of people around the world. In Canada, voters are apathetic, and I believe it is extremely harmful to democracy. Let this be one example of many more to come.

Obama has had great speeches. It was good to hear him reach out to Romney, it was fantastic to hear him shout out against legislation making lines longer at the polling places.

I don't think any speech Obama makes will rival Obama's speech at Notre Dame. He was invited by the college as part of tradition, and he was protested because of abortion. He carried out that speech, lovingly congratulating Notre Dame class of 2009, even while members of the audience called him baby killer. If we really want to reduce abortions in this country (and we have), we need educated youth, more access to birth control, better adoption agencies, and a national value for life and choice.

Pretty confident Romney wouldn't take Ohio, based on this last week of events and articles. Obama is pretty popular here. I wouldn't bet my 401K on it but I'd go at least a fiddy on it.

I live in Canada but we get a few US channels here and one of them is from Ohio. For the last few days, every time the station goes to commercials it is wall-to-wall election ads. I don't like switching to that channel because those ads really annoy/scare me because everyone is laying thing on so thick.

You might have noticed our Supreme Court has changed how we handle political contributions, called the Citizens United ruling. Citizens United literally makes little girls cry.

"No one commits voter fraud! So why would we need laws to correct this problem if it doesn't exist?"

[Someone gets caught committing voter fraud]

"See, our existing laws are sufficient to catch anyone who commits voter fraud!"

    [Scratches head]

I never heard the "No one commits voter fraud!" line - sounds like a straw man. I've heard "Voter fraud that would be prevented by voter ID isn't prevalent" - but nothing anyone has shown in this thread provides even a slight counter-argument to that.

That was shortened to "voter fraud is practically non-existent" and various compression that happens in politics.

I wish we could post video in these threads to show this glitch in an electronic voting machine.

Ehhh... no way that NC is voting for Obama and Virginia isn't.

Obama only wins NC if he's already got Virginia.

The reason I put Virginia in the Obama column is it's trending towards Obama. He was only down .3% last RCP average I checked, Romney is stagnant. Colorado is .6% ahead for Obama, but Obama is losing votes to 3rd party and Romney is trending up. North Carolina seems as solid Romney a swing state can possibly be. It's like Obama's Wisconsin.

Florida really could go either way, but I think between their Republican base and the advantage in the election rules the Republican governor has and has put in place it will ultimately be Romney's.

I really wanted to give Iowa to Romney as a surprise state polling for Obama, but Romney is losing too many votes to 3rd party. His support is in freefall right now tracking RCP average.

I find it hilarious how you insult my intelligence as well as going so far as to assume you have any idea how much I research items while in the same breath displaying an complete ignorance of what you are even linking to. A vote for closure is usually done by the opposing party to end the filibuster. A filibuster doesn't require any formal filling to start. In essence is basically
"Oh i have he floor and there is now rules saying I have to give it up so long as I'm talking"
Someone has to file a motion to end the filibuster and bring the topic to the vote. So the fact that Democrats moved to end the filibuster 99 out of 112 times means that 99 out of 112 filibusters were held by republicans.

And again I would like to thank you for finding a good link to prove my earlier point. It saved me a lot of trouble of finding an official link with the exact numbers.

Also as a side note I'm not a liberal. I'm a moderate. Wanting healthcare for all isn't a super liberalism socialistic satanic ideal. The only reason sever conservatives think that is because they have moved so far right that they think anything in the middle is far left. I feel very sorry for RINO's or moderate republicans that their current party is so far right. Its one of the reasons why I am not allied with any party.

I find it hilarious that you confirmed my original belief that you FAILED to even research the most basic points of your so-called argument on obstructionism. If you did even the most basic research, you would know that BOTH Democrats and Republicans opposed most of the cloture motions which means that Harry Reid could not get his party to vote against the filibuster. Also, as I pointed out, no one has provided evidence on what the particular bills were, so they could have been mere political bills that had no hope of passing or even being signed by the President. The whole exercise was merely a way for Reid to paint the Republicans as obstructionist.
Again, I want to thank you for confirming your own ignorance and laziness in failing to research anything or even finding a link.

I have highlighted two pieces of bipartisan issues that should have passed through simple majorites but were filibustered because a block of republicans had enough to stall it against a motion for cloture. This was 5 pages ago, where you were last seen in these conversations. You shouldn't need 60 senators to move forward with a veterans jobs bill, or an American jobs bill, but we do.

    Quote from 1Drop
I believe legislation should pass when a majority of the senate votes for it.

Democrats could do that now, but they won't because they are afraid that they will lose their majority. Be careful what you wish for, because it can come back to bite you. A good example is the independent prosecutor. Democrats set it up, and it came back to bite them. When they had a chance to create another one after the 2006 wave, they wisely choose not to do it.

I would be happy to do away with the filibuster rule because then when Romney wins and the Republicans have at least 50 seats, they can pass whatever they want.

No, they can't, because bills like the Veterans jobs bill and the American jobs bill are filibustered, paying our loans by raising the debt ceiling is filibustered, the DREAM act, and so on.

I sincerely hope we reach filibuster reform, and it could be spearheaded by outgoing Republican Senate representative Olympia Snowe.

ALSO: I believe there are some eager posters to see your electoral college predictions for that Romney win Smile

I always thought a good idea for SS would be personal accounts that buy treasury bonds.

Once you are 21 you can opt out or increase the amount you put in.

Keeps the government from raiding the fund, why sell bonds to China sell them to U.S. Citizens, and maybe even instill some fiscal responsibility into people.

Interesting, because the US public does own 20% of the national debt. I have US treasury bonds, and so do a lot of people. Our public debt is like 3x the amount owned by China.

Vaclav, I don't actually watch his show except if a friend happens to have it on when we play magic which has happened... once? Then I learned about who he was via TDS and in the fallout regarding him shilling for big banks that he was friends with.

Not a huge fan either, but he's come up a few times in conversations and such - and I think the "his dad" thing was repeated on TDS in fact. I know I didn't see that one live and saw it in a clip show somewhere.

My father was a big fan, but with Parkinson's grabbing a hold of his mind these days he doesn't much worry about stocks at all even if he still has faith in Cramer.

Jim Cramer is there to entertain. He gets people excited about investing. He makes absurd overblown suggestions on things he thinks are only kind of good ideas or safe bets.

Case in point: 2012 election. He doesnt even have a reputation on the line for predicting the 2012 election, it isn't his expertise to predict elections. But it is his area to make predictions, and as any good showman he tries to stand out by making a huge unheard of call that stands out as an anomaly to all the other safe bets.

Btw, is Assassin releasing his predictions today or sometime tomorrow night? We need more election predictions in the election prediction thread Smile
