A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

This set looks great for limited..... but pretty weak for standard. Reminds me of Battle for Zendikar 2.0. I think we are going to be welcoming back some dragons of tarkir for a little while... There are some good cards here, but very few. I'm sure many will get played, but only because there's just not that much else with this coming after Zendikar. For tribal EDH players, yeah, there is a lot here, but for standard... not much to be excited about. Like someone before mentioned, the pushed cards don't seem to have enough support. Remember how strong the Dragons of Tarkir cards still are.

I wish it was every upkeep so that you could catch your opponent off guard and have everyone fearing 13 life when you hit 4 mana!

My LGS just raised the price of booster boxes from $96 to $102, starting with BFZ. They stated that wizards just raised the prices of booster boxes with that set as the new price movin forward. I know that we have a bunch of store owners in here -- was this the case? I find it odd because none of the online sellers seem to be any higher than before.

Is my LGS just trying to make more, or did wizards really up the price of booster boxes to stores? (again, this would be starting in November of last year).

I played the deck this weekend locally (only major difference is I run 3 Oath of Gideon instead of a few removal cards) and went 2-2, beating RG Eldrazi Ramp and a mirror match, and losing to 4c Rally and Abzan Tokens (they spit out tokens a lot faster than we do because of Nissa).

To those of you who feel good about Rally -- what makes you feel that way? I got clobbered both games, and they weren't even close. Reflector Mage completely negated Kalitas, and they were able to just beat me down without even having to worry about Rally the Ancestors. Coco was throwing out more creatures than I could deal with, and a lot faster than us. It felt like a 10/90 matchup even post board. They have easy answers to Kalitas and we have 3 Moonlights vs their 8 coco / rally.

I will happily say that Oath of Gideon T3 into T4 Sorin won every game that it occurred on. T5 Sorin Emblem is virtually unbeatable.

Ramp decks have replaced Dragonlord Atarka with World Breaker. I don't see a problem, since those cards don't worry this deck. Ulamog is still the big threat that needs gone. Transgress the mind only hits 1, whereas obliteration hits all of them.

I am also worried that, similar to Abzan and Anafenza, the inclusion of Reflector Mage into 4 color rally makes Kalitas not great. You can't count on creatures to remove the graveyard anymore.

Hoogeland appears to have gone 7-2 with this deck day 1 at SCG Atlanta. A good sign.

I think it's also being played as a 1-of in Bring to Light lists since you can search for it as Boom and cast it as Bust.

Can you do that? If so, that's pretty powerful, and unexpected.

I don't see any issues with the price. It is played in one of the top modern decks (in most all forms of it) and sees play in a solid 4-5 legacy decks. It is typically played as 3-of or 4-of in the decks it is played in. That's a recipe for an expensive card.

So we have seen some nice demand-based spikes lately, and most of those cards are in MM2015. We now have a new money rare (Eye of Ugin) and a new money uncommon (Eldrazi Temple) in the set, are these boxes starting to get a little more attractive? You can still find these boxes for around $190, and the recent increases appear to have bumped the value of a box by around 10%. Any thoughts on this?

With the new list revealed, do you think Blade of Selves has a good home here? There are really a number of creatures that we play with ETB effects that could make use of it. I am seeing:

    Recruiter
    Duplicant
    Solemn Simulacrum
Steel Hellkite (not ETB but otherwise good)
    Myr Battlesphere
Blightsteel Colossus (not ETB but otherwise good too)

It also works well with Clock of Omens to untap and use some tap guys (like Metalworker), and also it supports Kuldotha Forgemaster.

It's not amazingly powerful like in some decks, but that's 6 creatures that it would make very powerful.

Also, any thoughts to Magus of the Wheel and Fiery Confluence? Fiery Confluence works very nicely with a number of cards in our deck for artifact destruction.

    Sparki,

    AK Tilted is Jarvis Yu?

Sorry to hear about you coming in just short! What decklist are you running these days? (I think you're one of the few still playing RUG and I was wanting to move back to it)

Boosters are in print as long as they are in standard as far as I understood. You will have until the next rotation before they go out of print. Which is May 2016. Until then buy as much Khans sealed product as you want. Ask for them as prize support. You have a good chance of getting a fetchland. A quick look at the other sets you could be getting price support from and as long as khans is in standard that would be the only one I be asking for. I'd go so far as to ask to do fun drafts with khans packs only. If you ask your store owner on non Friday nights magic days you can run any draft you want.

This is incorrect. Sorry. Most sets go out of print near the end of their time in standard, not at the end. I wouldn't be surprised if Khans is out of print or going out of print soon. I would also argue that Dragons is a better set right now to take as prize packs.

The actual EBV isn't so bad right now.... I'm actually surprised the fetch prices are as high as they are with the box price being so low. I could see this being a big riser in the future. You can still get boxes of this under $90 I think.
