Oct 31, 2014Darkninja107 posted a message on Casual Castle: Deathtouch Pingers Part 1I think I'll work on a Pauper version of the R/G build, but I'll need to find some good beaters since Wumpus and Heavyweights aren't legal...Posted in: Articles

Mar 9, 2014Darkninja107 posted a message on Casual Castle: Nemesis of MortalsI really like this list! When I get a chance (and some extra cash) I might look into picking up the cards I'm missing to make a slight variant. It would be great if there was a way to fit Whip of Erebos in there to bring back threats, but too little will inevitably get pitched and too many will take up too much space. Maybe Genesis is worth testing but it would increase the budget a bit.Posted in: Articles

Feb 4, 2014Darkninja107 posted a message on Launch Giveaway! My favorite Magic card would have to be Bloodgift Demon! It's a demon (which those are always pretty cool), it supplies card advantage since it's a Phyrexian Arena on a stick and it can fly over other creatures to beat face! What more do you want from a black creature?Posted in: Announcements
A close second is Psychosis Crawler! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
They are the Blasts (which are still awesome) but they are Pauper legal because they were printed as Commons in the past. So we get more choices for copies. The new artwork is pretty awesome!
UPDATE: Relentless Rats! Holy crap!
It's definitely a common. There's a C by the card number in the bottom left corner. But the Rarity symbol is pretty hard to tell the difference between common and uncommon.
On another note, we have Savannah Lions at a common now. Not a big surprise since Elite Vanguard got the downgrade too. Vanguard is probably the superior choice since it has a better creature type for tribal stuff, but White Weenie has more efficient one drops to choose from.
Balduvian Horde looks pretty good for a Madness build, but for a former rare (albeit an old rare) it does seem a bit lackluster without any keywords to help it out. Will this see play? Maybe this opens up a chance for a traditional Red Deck Wins build?
Pillage looks pretty dang good! Unless I'm mistaken this is the cheapest common that hits lands or artifacts. With Tron and Affinity being a presence then this could be a good SB choice to allow more room in you 75 for other options.
I would replace Deeproot Warrior with Giltgrove Stalker or Jungle Delver. Stalker can't be chump blocked so it will force your opponent to block it with something bigger then you can pump it to act as pseudo-removal for your deck. Delver gives you a late game threat, but Stalker is probably the better option.
You definitely need more draw! I'd drop the Cartouche for some actual card advantage spells. Perilous Research is good if you end up with too many lands or too many creatures. Words of Wisdom might be good too since you don't care too much about creatures blocking you or their spot removal. There's some other options as well.
You probably want Dispel over Mana Leak or even Spell Pierce or Turn Aside.
As for a SB you can use some Enchantment removal and Gleeful Sabotage looks like it would be effective here, but you have a lot of options so just pick whichever you like best. To help against faeries you can use Aerial Volley but you also have a good amount of enchantments that give flying or reach for blue and green. More counter spells will definitely help in the control matches since they'll be boarding in spell that work around hexproof. Graveyard hate would be helpful and to keep it budget friendly I would go with Nihil Spellbomb or Faerie Macabre. Then if you need help against Tron then Spreading Seas is great! It's pretty cheap online despite being about $3 in paper.
Lol, I thought it was an "L' in your name! I tried adding you a year ago and that explains why it didn't work!
Circle of Protection: Green can stop the creatures damaging you since it doesn't target.
If you stick with red then you also have Electrickery and other similar effects that will help.
For MTGO there is some differences. Some cards aren't on MTGO or might not have been released as a common on MTGO.
There is a sticky on this subforum found at https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/other-formats/paper-pauper-and-peasant/526347-casual-paper-pauper-peasant-banned-cards that details leagality and also has an extensive list of differences in card pools between Paper and Online.
What was your sideboard plan against Burn? I find burn to be very easy, especially post board. The best thing to do is not worry about life gain and go hard with hand disruption. The sooner they go into top deck mode the better, then let the Gray Merchants put you ahead on life.
With the amount of creature removal I suggest maybe dropping your Quicksands for Radiant Fountain and maybe drop a forgotten cave for an extra copy. This coupled with Pristine Talisman will give you some main deck life gain against Burn and Aggro. Maybe those will give you the same amount of life a Tangle Bloom would (unless your experience is different than what I imagine) and that would leave some more room in the SB.
Right now it looks you have a decent SB against Tron. Gorilla Shaman will help keep them off some colored mana if you take out Prophetic Prism. Molten Rain can take out some of their important lands, while Pyroblast can fight against their counter spells/Capsize.
Against control you want to put on the pressure. You can take out some spot removal for direct damage. Thunderous Wrath is legal in Pauper now so that can probably take the place of Tanglebloom in the side.
A note on the main deck: Control needs card advantage and this deck desperately need it since it's red. Our main source of true, repeatable CA is Crown-Hunter Hireling. MAybe use this instead of Beetleback Chief?
2 Quicksand
20 Swamp
Creatures
4 Ravenous Rats
1 Cuombajj Witches
2 Phyrexian Rager
1 Chittering Rats
3 Faceless Butcher
4 Gray Merchant of Asphodel
1 Gurmag Angler
4 Duress
1 Tragic Slip
1 Doom Blade
1 Eternal Thirst
2 Grim Harvest
2 Geth's Verdict
3 Sign in Blood
4 Wrench Mind
2 Read the Bones
1 Evincar's Justice
3 Mesmeric Fiend
3 Shrivel
2 Geth's Verdict
2 Victim of Night
3 Complete Disregard
2 Faerie Macabre
I've had wins against Boggles and Elves. Against Boggles I prefer Geth's Verdict over Chainer's Edict since Verdict allows me to respond to Cartouche of Solidarity/Khalni Garden. Chainer's Edict is really great because of the flashback, but I don't have any due to my budget. Then I switch out some spot removal for Shrivel to try and clear out their early plays. Discard really helps here too. I switch Faceless Butcher for Mesmeric Fiend to pick away at their enchantments. That plus Duress and Wrench Mind gets them top decking fast. Against Elves they'd play out all their creatures and my Wrench Mind would hit their value cards like Distant Melody. Evincar's Justice is great against Elves since they spend their early turns tapping elves with Birchlore Rangers to cast as much creatures as they can.
I haven't come across Delver yet, but I'd probably go with Discard and Shrivel post board and maybe drop Faceless Butcher for some more spot removal.
I want to suggest splashing White for Last Breath or something, but that still forces you to battle counter spells to get it to resolve. Then the flagbearer would lightning rod it too if that's a common SB card (but that didn't seem to be the case). I know splashing in another color after you've done so much fine tuning on your list would be crazy though.
You could maybe go with more cards like Relic of Progenitus or Tormod's Crypt. Either way that's a tough matchup.
There's also Faerie Trickery which is probably too much mana, but can exile spells you don't want recurring later. There's also Grip of Amnesia which is probably a bad card, but it will either counter their Flicker or exile their GY. Their GY looks like a more important resource though so you'll probably just counter the Flicker.
How exactly is the matchup against that Tron deck? Do you outright lose from the start or are you able to get some first match wins then they wreck you post sideboarding?
