Oct 31, 2014Darkninja107 posted a message on Casual Castle: Deathtouch Pingers Part 1I think I'll work on a Pauper version of the R/G build, but I'll need to find some good beaters since Wumpus and Heavyweights aren't legal...Posted in: Articles

Mar 9, 2014Darkninja107 posted a message on Casual Castle: Nemesis of MortalsI really like this list! When I get a chance (and some extra cash) I might look into picking up the cards I'm missing to make a slight variant. It would be great if there was a way to fit Whip of Erebos in there to bring back threats, but too little will inevitably get pitched and too many will take up too much space. Maybe Genesis is worth testing but it would increase the budget a bit.Posted in: Articles

Feb 4, 2014Darkninja107 posted a message on Launch Giveaway! My favorite Magic card would have to be Bloodgift Demon! It's a demon (which those are always pretty cool), it supplies card advantage since it's a Phyrexian Arena on a stick and it can fly over other creatures to beat face! What more do you want from a black creature?Posted in: Announcements

Riot Control can get out of control for your aggro opponents. That coupled with Moment of Silence makes Flaring Pain useless considering that you don't mind if it resolves once or even twice with the amount of life you can gain.
Running a single copy of Curse of the Bloody Tome might help with time if you can find the space for it.
It was a bit jarring to see you switch over to this new build since you got so used to piloting the old turbo fog. I look forward to seeing where you take this new build though!
Burning-Tree Vandal makes a mono red madness build viable by adding a good discard outlet. I doubt that would be better than other Madness builds, but I like having more options for variants of archetypes.
Sauroform Hybrid looks good for a Big Green build. Functionally a 6/6 with haste for 6 mana that can add some pressure in early turns might be something people will overlook. And if it eats some removal early then that saves some of your other threats later on.
I like the design of Frenzied Arynx. Riot looks like a fixed Tribute since it puts the choice in the controlling player's hands, but either way a 3/3 with trample and haste or a 4/4 with trample looks good and it has a late game mana sink. Is this the finisher the fringe Frenzied Tilling decks need to become more relevant? Maybe!
Heh, the thought of stopping an Overload spell with an Overload spell seems funny to me...
Garrison Sergeant looks like the beefiest Double Strike creature available in Pauper so far and playing a Gate isn't a big hoop to jump through. Not sure if it will see play since it doesn't seem to fit in any of the current Boros archetypes in Pauper, but maybe this will allow for a basic midrange deck?
Centaur Mediator gives you an extra life point over Centaur Healer, but I'd rather play the latter. Centaur Mediator would probably be preferred in a deck that doesn't care about your opponent's life total like an Infect deck or Turbofog, but even then it seems like a fringe sideboard option for those decks.
I'm not sure how I feel about Never Happened. It looks good for a main deck option that has some graveyard hate, but I don't like the CMC. If it cost 2 mana then I would love it, but that would probably push it into Uncommon rarity. I'll probably test it out and see how it feels.
Rosemane Centaur seems decent, but it gets outclassed by other creatures.
The state of removal in the format seems to be getting worse and worse with every set. Granted we do have a lot of great removal available, but still...
For some reason every set or block seems to require a mechanic involving +1/+1 counters and I don't care about most of them. Mentor is no different, especially because the Common ones might just be "vanilla" creatures with the mechanic attached.
Jump-start has potential but we'll have to see. For now it seems like a bad Flashback or a "fixed" Retrace.
3x Magma Jet
3x Searing Blaze
4x Skred
3x Staggershock
2x Thunderous Wrath
4x Arc Lightning
4x Firebolt
3x Flame Slash
2x Beetleback Chief
2x Martyr of Ashes
Other Permanents
3x Pristine Talisman
4x Curse of the Pierced Heart

2x Forgotten Cave
2x Quicksand
2x Radiant Fountain
17x Snow-Covered Mountain
2x Flame Rift
3x Keldon Marauders
4x Pillage
3x Relic of Progenitus
2x Shattering Pulse
1x Swirling Sandstorm
I've kept Skred to handle big creatures. Arc Lightning is probably one of my favorite cards to draw! It never feels wasted since you can make every point of damage count! I started using Searing Blaze over Lightning Bolt for the extra value, but I might switch back after some more games.
Currently I am testing out 2 Guardian Idols in place of 2 Firebolts. The extra mana is pretty good, but the repeatable damage has been useful in a few games! Not sure if I'm sold on it quite yet, but I'll keep trying it.
I feel like my sideboard needs a bit of work. I went with budget options, so that's why I don't have Gorilla Shaman or Pyroblast. I never seem to want Flame Rift or Keldon Marauders.
Looks interesting, but I would honestly cut out any creature that doesn't have infect, including Swamp Mosquito. Instead you can use Flensermite and Corpse Cur. With some of the freed up space there you can then add in Rouse which is your budget Mutagenic Growth and Aphotic Wisps to give you some evasion and extra draws.
