It's that time again (feels like these threads are coming back to back these days) and we seem to have some good additions so far!

Vicious Offering looks like a Pauper Dismember! We really don't mind losing creatures in Black since we have so many options to bring them back, plus a lot of our creatures trigger on death.

Serra Disciple is interesting. It looks good for a White Weenie/Metalcraft build. Coming stock with Flying AND First Strike looks awesome on a 2 mana creature, not to mention the fact that it has a built in pump trigger!

Keldon Overseer seems like a good late game swing for stalled boards, but 7 mana is ridiculous for a red deck (especially in Pauper). Though, it is awesome that we are starting to see Common versions of Rare designs since this reminded me of Zealous Conscripts when I saw it. That makes me very hopeful for the format in the future!

There's a few other commons spoiled, but none of them have grabbed my attention. We also have a lot of unknown rarities it seems, which is really interesting. Have they shown those rarities anywhere else or are they a mystery for now?

My question would be what sweepers in this format will kill them off? Most Pauper sweepers are made to take care of 2 toughness creatures or weaker. Even Echoing Decay would only work on a single Rat unless their casting multiple. The only other thing is Swirling Sandstorm and that only sees fringe play and would work against any regular aggro deck we would play otherwise. Echoing Truth might be the biggest problem though.

I agree about the other problems you have with the deck. My main issue is that we're pretty slow to build up and don't have any of the other casual cards that are used with Relentless Rats like Thrumming Stone or the Surgical Extraction/Shelldock Isle trick.

The best route to go is with Upkeep's plan though with more card draw. Lotus Petal can be good for a second turn Rat early on, but it's somewhat dead in later turns.

Elvish Visionary is underrated in every format, but I think there's a choice between Dusk Legion Zealot and Cuombajj Witches, and Witches just locks certain matchups down.

MBC already has a lot of Card Advantage, so a cantrip creature with a 1/1 is pretty weak. Rager is so prevalent because of his better stats. Witches gives us other advantages by being able to ping off 1 toughness creatures and adding 2 to our devotion count, plus it can block better than a Zealot. I would only use Zealot if I didn't have any Witches in my collection.

I would also suggest swapping your counts on Wrench Mind and Chainer's Edict. The discard is really strong even if it's not Hymn and Chainer's gives you double casts for each copy, so having 2 Chainer's plus 2 Geth's Verdict main deck is strong. Then having some Geth's Verdicts in the SB can give you reactive edicts which are very strong against Bogles and Heroic decks.

I don't know why CFB would affect what regular LGSs do for their tournaments. There's definitely a big meta shift between Paper and MTGO Pauper, so it's best for a shop to do what its customer base wants.

As far as using a banned list for Casual, well that's up to the playgroup to decide. I know early on when my playgroup was purely casual no one knew the power of certain banned cards. For example, no one at that time would've thought to use Ghostly Flicker to abuse Peregrine Drake so there was no need to pay attention to banned cards.

Looks good! You probably want to drop Frostburn Weird for Thermo-Alchemist. Thermo-Alchemist doesn't require mana to deal it's damage which leaves your mana open to play more spells. That might be important if you keep losing the Sandstone Needles once they're used up.

Yeah, I was pretty bummed out about Rivals of Ixalan since it didn't seem to bring us anything, but this has made me happy!

Ainok Survivalist looks pretty good! Artifact/enchantment removal on a decent body is great for decks that want to maximize creature count for Lead the Stampede.

I'm also interested in seeing how Ruthless Ripper will turn out. It seems like a strong choice in MBC mirrors to kill Anglers and Merchants plus you get some loss of life out of the trigger.

I did a quick glance on Cardkingdom for Frenzied Goblin and it showed the Speed vs. Cunning copy was Common, but I just checked again and that was a typo on their part since the card image still shows Uncommon. My bad! Frenzied Goblin looks like a stronger Intimidator Initiate since you can use it's ability if you have no cards to play, but Initiate can activate multiple times.

Frenzied Goblin was already a Common and we already mentioned Lions here:

On another note, we have Savannah Lions at a common now. Not a big surprise since Elite Vanguard got the downgrade too. Vanguard is probably the superior choice since it has a better creature type for tribal stuff, but White Weenie has more efficient one drops to choose from.

I definitely agree that Hordeling Outburst and Pillage will be pretty big! Red has gotten a lot of love in the set!

We got a few more interested downgrades!

Jackal Pup looks pretty good, but it might still be outclassed by Mogg Conscripts, Goblin Cohort.

Crimson Mage looks decent, but I'm more excited by the prospect of all the [Insert Color] Mage cycle getting downgrades.

Borrowing 100,000 Arrows looks interesting for Turbo Fog, but if Keep Watch hasn't made it into those lists then I suppose Arrows won't.

Loyal Sentry dropped from Rare to Common and looks interesting, but I'm not sure where it will find a home. It's a pretty decent one drop for White Weenie and can have interesting shenanigans in a blink deck.

Court Hussar digs deeper than Sea Gate Oracle, but it can't interact as well with Ghostly Flicker so I'm not sure it will make an impact.

Primal Clay looks okay since it can be what you need it to, but is that worth it for 4 mana?

I was getting excited when I saw Zoetic Cavern pop up, but unfortunately it's still Uncommon. I feel a design like that would be the closest thing to a Manland Pauper could get.

We still have a little more to go, but I'm pretty hopeful for some more goodies!

I also like that the new art is the old Phyrexian Rager which is a cool callback since the OG Exclude was from Invasion which was in the same block!

If only Undead Gladiator had been shifted to common and not just uncommon, heh.

That would be pretty cool! Twisted Abomination is pretty good, but requires using spell space for a Raise Dead effect. Undead Gladiator having one built in to its design is really strong, so maybe we will never see something like that in Pauper. A man can dream... A man can dream.

I was thinking about this too, but I think Relentless Rats will require too much deck space to make it work in MBC. We already have a great beater with Gurmag Angler and a lot of quality spells. Relentless Rats seems like it will be best as a new archetype in this format.

Yeah, a B/g Relentless Rats deck with Lead the Stampede and Echoing Courage would be fun!

Sideboard? Pillage is a maindeckable answer to artifacts! I love it! I've always thought they should have made a common, and here we are! Mono-Red LD, here we come! Smile

Balduvian Horde is ok. A 5/5 for 4 is still decent stats, but the random discard is pretty discouraging. Not sure if it's going to be playable. It kind of reminds me of Emperor Crocodile, which sees no play. 4 mana might be too much for a 5/5...

Also, Pyro/hydro reprint is great! They're paying attention to Pauper, clearly!

I think those are Elemental Blasts there, sir. And they're still uncommon, sadly.

They are the Blasts (which are still awesome) but they are Pauper legal because they were printed as Commons in the past. So we get more choices for copies. The new artwork is pretty awesome!

    UPDATE: Relentless Rats! Holy crap!

There could be a deck with Veteran Armorer as an auto include to pump the toughness.
